With the signing of fred and the new contract for fellaini, does that end our interest in milinkovic-savic? Thanks Ed.

Marcelo

{Ed002's Note - No.}

Hello Ed001,
sorry to ask, but what is the possibility of utd signing Renato sanches, looks a good player. thanks.

Marcelo

{Ed001's Note - they want him but I personally think Bayern, Barca and Madrid are more likely to take him.}

1.) 14 Apr 2016 13:06:40
Ed001, every player we seem interested in there is usually always a couple of clubs that's seem to be ahead of us. Are there any players you know of right now that we seem to be in pole position for?

Thanks for any info.

{Ed001's Note - it is not that you are not in pole position, there is no pole position to be in right now. You are chasing players that a lot of clubs are interested in, so the chance of one of the others going for them is larger. Which, as of right now, means there is a very good chance the player would choose the other team as United do not (as of this moment) have Champions League football or good prospects. Obviously, securing CL or appointing a well respected manager would completely change how the club is being viewed by players. Also you can throw huge amounts of money, in terms of wages, their way, and convince them to join you.}

2.) 14 Apr 2016 16:41:13
Ed001 you never know we might just bag ourselves a well respected manager or. we might just settle for giggs a throw shed loads of cash at them.

{Ed001's Note - or pick up someone that Barca or Madrid are selling to fund their spending...}

3.) 14 Apr 2016 21:31:01
Like who Ed?

{Ed001's Note - depends on who becomes available, but I expect United to try and get Kroos, Ronaldo, Neymar and probably go back for Ramos plus there is the probability Isco will be moved on and I would expect United to try and get him too. While I also expect Bale to be the subject of interest, he has no interest in going to United right now.}

4.) 14 Apr 2016 22:33:32
I'd only take Kroos from the above list and obviously Neymar, but don't think there's a hells chance in landing him.

5.) 17 Apr 2016 23:01:31
Id take ronaldo at the right price purely because he is a world beater. Only problem would be that he needs to play centre forward now as he isn't as pacey as he used to be.

Lovren's comment about him being one of worlds best defenders made me laugh out. While I think he is a decent player who often gets unfair criticism, he certainly won't make my list of the top 40 defenders in the world.

Marcelo

1.) 12 Jul 2018 14:34:44
Neither would Marcelo. 😀.

2.) 12 Jul 2018 15:20:06
Marcelo is in the top 1 left backs so yeh your right scholes.

3.) 12 Jul 2018 16:29:28
Shame he can't defend FZZ.

26 Jun 2018 22:08:21
I am a Nigerian. Can someone please explain to me how the referee did not award a penalty for that handball by rojo.
Also gutted that marcos rojo managed to get the winner for argentina against nigeria for the second time in a world cup game.

Marcelo

{Ed004's Note - Because it was accidental. It was head onto hand. I don't know how the first penalty was given}

1.) 27 Jun 2018 04:03:15
Ed more refs need to give penalties for holding on to opponents. Only way to stop the defenders from indulging in the homoerotica that goes on in the box during a corner is make it too costly.

{Ed001's Note - I tried to explain to him why it was given, it was 100% a penalty according to the rules. I really do not see why he found that so difficult to accept.}

2.) 27 Jun 2018 08:37:45
All this holding etc needs to be stopped, and it’s good to finally see some punishment for it. However the refs need to be consistent, if that means giving 2/ 3/ 4 penalties a game then so be it, the players will soon learn (or so you’d like to think) .

3.) 27 Jun 2018 10:15:00
I don’t understand how Rojo got away with the high leg in the first half. This foot was literally over the other player’s head. It’s pure luck that he didn’t end up kicking him in the face. Anywhere else on the pitch, and that’s a foul.

4.) 27 Jun 2018 13:55:15
Same ref that sent Nani off against Real as well Danny!

Not over that one yet.

5.) 27 Jun 2018 15:28:52
Eds, I just don't understand why the referee allow Mascherano to keep playing while he was bleeding. Isn't he supposed to be out until they treat the injury?

{Ed001's Note - he should have been sent to the sidelines to have the blood cleaned up and not allowed back until it was staunched or covered. Ref was weak.}

Just wanted to ask.
Would you like to see the club buy milinkovic savic even at the cost of lossing pogba?
pogba is a very talented player no doubts, but he seems to lack that extra effort or sometimes just looks uninterested. personally, i would live to see him improve his performances next season, hopefully in a 3 man midfield.

Marcelo

1.) 27 May 2018 12:30:29
Pogba hasn't been that bad.

Yeah he's been inconsistent but so has the rest of the team.

When we were free flowing at the start of the season he looked amazing.

The injuries to himself and Bailly had a massive knock on effect. Them 3 draws in a row and the loss to city really effected us

But if we can keep the spine of the team injury free and sign a few players.

Play like we did at the start of the season and we will see the best of pogba.

I don't agree with this let's sell him.

He's a fantastic player on his day and olif we were to get rid of him we will just be taking a step backwards.

Build the team around pogba not get rid.

2.) 27 May 2018 12:31:29
Wouldn't miss him, I have to say, but that's not the same as wanting him gone. I'd have them both but if I HAD to choose it would be Savic.

3.) 27 May 2018 12:35:21
I’d like to see Pogba play with all the tools to succeed then I can make a informed decision. Improve the defence / midfields and see if he performs without tactical restraints etc.

4.) 27 May 2018 12:37:49
Marcelo - I've never seen SMS play so it's hard to comment to be honest.

The same can be said for Fred but from what I've read he's a tenacious player with great stamina. He's good on the ball and also a good dribbler. He's deployed in a midfield 2 for Shaktar so he could easily anchor our midfield next to Matic and also have the ability to start attacks from deep and drive us forward from midfield.

I've always believed that Mourinho's preferred formation is 4-2-3-1. I think he was hoping he could mould Pogba into playing a more disciplined role but unfortunately this hasn't materialised. Pogba is a fantastic player with some brilliant attributes but he doesn't sense danger and it's hard to label exactly what kind of player he is.

I fear the arrival of Sanchez has further complicated Pogba's role in the team as he's often dropped too deep and occupied Pogba's space. I've seen little evidence of this problem resolving itself as the season progressed. We've predominantly played a 3 man midfield since Sanchez arrived, primarily in an attempt to release Pogba and get the best out of him. This hasn't worked because Sanchez has often occupied his space and Lingard has been moved wide right making him less effective as well.

I'm not convinced 4-3-3 is going to be the way forward. For Pogba to be at his best he needs the wide men to keep wide and make runs forward creating the space for him in midfield. Sanchez won't do this and prefers the ball into feet congesting and occupying Pogba's space. Lingard has been ineffective on the right. He has often come inside too soon further contesting the middle and leaving us with no width. We are then reliant on playing intricate little one twos and short passes which isn't really Pogba's game. He prefers space to drive into carrying the ball forward and looking for runners in behind. As the defence retreat he can shoot at goal. He's much more suited to Martial or Rashford playing wide left than Sanchez.

I think it will be interesting to see how we line up next year. I think Lingard probably deserve's his chance at No 10, Sanchez always looks more effective with players in and around him where he can play quick one twos and feed off others.

I think we'll probably start next season playing 4-2-3-1. I think if Pogba is still at the Club he'll start next to Matic in midfield where he'll have to deliver what Mourinho expects. I think if he doesn't and we sign Fred he could well find himself out of the team.

I think Mourinho has grown tired and frustrated with a lot of players. I fully expect him to return to how he wants to play rather than changing his preferred system to get the best out of others. He can rectify this with his signings this summer. Fascinating window ahead.

5.) 27 May 2018 12:49:36
A lot of our fans forget how good pogba and the team in general were up until christmas.

Pogba looked every bit the midfield player that we wanted at the start of the season.

Once alexis sanchez arrived and kept giving the ball away every two minuted ans dropping so deep youd think he was playing sweeper that pogbas form went off of a cliff.

6.) 27 May 2018 13:13:26
Not sure selling Pogba, who was our old shiny new signing and ditching him for another is the way forward.

Personally, if Fred is the box to box mid we need, I’d play him and Matic and put Pog at 10 to cause havoc further up the pitch like Dele does at Spurs.

7.) 27 May 2018 13:17:07
This comes down to Jose. It’s clear that he fell out with Pogba during the season because he wasn’t performing as part of the two dms. There’s no point in keeping him if Jose wants to play his preferred system. However, there’s nobody out there willing to stump up the cash to buy him. Unless he has an amazing World Cup, I can’t see Pogba anywhere but here next season.

8.) 27 May 2018 13:19:39
Would be a massive mistake selling pogba. Bags of talent and he will go on to be one of the best midfielders in the world. He has a lot to work on but the raw talent is their at his disposal. I have seen Milinkovic-Savic play a lot this year as I have been watching serie A regularly and he is the star midfielder along with Jorginho in that league. Has all the attributes much like pogba - strength, vision, ball control and ability to score goals. They can play together so I would love to see them in a three man midfield, pogba on the left and savic on the right.

People criticise pogba but statistically he is better than he was at Juve. I know stats are misleading but I feel the reason why he is getting stick is because united aren’t winning the big trophies. At Juve we only really saw highlight reels of his outrageous goals but in reality he still went missing during games. He is lucky he had Pirlo and Vidal next to him and bonucci and chiellini to rely on when he gave the ball away. He does need to improve consistency but that is also down to how Jose deploys him. He must find a way of fitting Sanchez and pogba into the team otherwise we will see the same problems cropping up again. Interested to see what he decides to do. I like 3 at the back and two up top with 3 in midfield.

9.) 27 May 2018 18:32:20
Anyone remember when Steve Gerrard was playing some of his best football behind the strikers at Lpool under Rodgers?

Thats the position for Pogba, tight in behind them, not in his own half. problem now Sanchez is in his way - the midfield and the defence would have to be stronger but I would like to see him there.

Hit the submit button before i could finish.
depay, schneiderlin and schweinsteiger were also players who jose had to move on. If the team is not good enough, i strongly believe the new manager will come in and start all over. How many of the attacking and midfield players at City were signed by pep, just 3 sane, gabriel jesus and gundogan. This is because over the years, city have spent on players who could go one to play for up to 5 years in the club. pep saw that the major problem at city was the defence and that is why he spent more on defenders, but this was not the case when jose came in, the team consisted of a bunch of average players, and this is evident from the LVG fa cup final team. rooney, carrick and fellaini in midfield, blind in defence. so on the long run i feel that building a team now, will benefit us than exciting football or we might just end having a situation whereby jose leaves and we are back to square 1 with a new manager. Everything Takes Time And Patience.

Good post that Marcelo.

2.) 13 May 2018 23:00:25
City have spent £1.4 billion in the last ten years - the biggest spend in Europe. It's not all down to Guardiola!

Not Been A Regular Poster, But I Just Felt Like Pointing A Few Things Out.
Firstly, While the style of play hasn't been impressive, i think the defence/ defenders to some extent have contributed to this. If we had quality centre backs, i think the manager would have seen the need to play just 1 DM against the some teams, thereby committing more men forwad. Also, the full backs barely contribute anything going forwad, thereby making our play more congested centrally.
secondly, more than style of play or any other thing, i think the most important thing we need now is to build a solid team, and i know jose is the man for that. He may not be able to offer exciting attacking football, but when you look back at his former teams, you find out that he was able to bring in and blend quality players in key areas, which helped them on the long run. Jose is stil trying to get rid of some of the average players who were here before him e.g darmian, blind, smalling etc and not forgetting the likes of depay, and morgan.

Marcelo

1.) 12 May 2018 22:46:13
Do you see any sort of plan style or system when we play, Marcelo?

2.) 13 May 2018 00:02:34
If the football is not exciting what's the point of it?

3.) 13 May 2018 18:58:34
