With Spurs looking less and less likely to win anything, is Kane going to be looking for a move? Would we be interested if it cost us our entire budget on a single player?

{Ed002's Note - Wrong page, this is the Manchester United page.}

1.) 05 Feb 2021 12:49:17
Would you say we're in the running for major honours?

2.) 05 Feb 2021 12:56:43
While Kane is a great player, he turns 28 in the summer, has regular injuries and would cost upward of 150m even in a post-C.V. world as Levy is holding the purse strings at Spurs.

I don't see the value in any deal.

3.) 05 Feb 2021 13:28:53
Nah. great player - injured too often though. We are 2 years away from our squad peaking so i would still look for a young striker and make the best use of Cavani in the meanwhile. Ideally Haaland, but the Ed has said he may be out of reach with City and Chelsea looking to him this summer. If not, then look to calwert lewin, Ings or Ollie watkins. All will cost a bomb, but are prem proven and will cost less than Haaland and we could potentially inclde players in the deal. All have a lower ceiling than Greenwood as well so he will not feel stifled.

4.) 05 Feb 2021 13:29:21
Only way i could see Kane moving is in a RVP style transfer where he only has a year left on his contract and would be easier to buy.

But he's on a long contract and i don't see Levy being up for negotiations with any club.

5.) 05 Feb 2021 14:38:35
Kane has been going slightlydownhill for a couple of seasons now.

Spurs never got an adequate backup forward. They have never been able to adequately rest him. Considering the costs involved, I don't see any value in it as we still need tk strengthen quite a few other areas aswell. If a top forward was really the only position we needed to strengthen then it would make sense in trying to buy him - price dependent.

6.) 05 Feb 2021 16:37:37
I would rather see Greenwood given a chance in that position as he is the most clinical finisher in the current squad. If he could keep his head down and learn from Cavani while working on his strength/ conditioning he could slot in seamlessly when Cavani departs.

7.) 06 Feb 2021 00:26:26
god if kane is two old at twenty eight me, ken, scoob and redman should banih are selves tohe old folks home.

I am assuming that we are not allowed to bring Henderson back, now his season is finished with Sheffield, and play him in the Europa League? Shame if not, would be a good way to test his credentials for replacing De Gea.

MonDieu

{Ed0666's Note - Henderson is a number 1 mate

1.) 28 Jul 2020 07:35:44
He deserves a shot at being number 1. DDG is in a decline.

2.) 28 Jul 2020 08:30:54
I’d have Henderson over De Gea now but to bring him back now and have him play Europa (not that I think he can anyway) would be very cruel on Romero.

3.) 28 Jul 2020 08:29:18
Henderson is ready for united number 1 imo. He has had a decent season, which in turn has helped his team win more points then they maybe would have with a different keeper. Don't get me wrong he has made a couple of mistakes and is far from the finished article, but he seems to have the ability, attitude and personality to make here.

The issue now is that we have ddg here on massive wages and a long term contract, and it doesn't look like too many or any teams are seriously interested in him. We can't have ddg one of our highest earners sitting on the bench and playing cup games like romero has been, he won't be happy with that and will likely force a move and we will get peanuts for a keeper who is entering the prime years of his career. So it is a quite tricky one.

Eds can we have a little run down on what you suspect could happen with our keepers please?

{Ed002's Note - I answered this a few days ago. DDG to stay, DH another year in Sheffield then depart, SR will look at options and JP to step up.}

4.) 28 Jul 2020 09:06:49
Ed002: If the plan is to sell Henderson on next summer, why bother loaning him out again and allowing his value to drop? If he goes out on loan for another year he will return with 12 months remaining on his contract. Surely the club would command a higher fee now with 2 years remaining?

{Ed002's Note - There is no plan to sell Henderson next summer. He will be thinking about his own career.}

5.) 28 Jul 2020 09:42:01
No players returning from loans can take part in the Europa League for us. At the end of January you have to re-register your squad for the rest of the competition. Bruno was added for us and I think a couple of youngsters were added to our "B" squad.

Henderson or any of our players out on loan such as Sanchez or Smalling have not been added and therefore we can't use them in the competition.

One thing that doesn't quite sit right with me though is United refusing to extend the loans of Sanchez or Smalling as we could end up facing either Inter or Roma and there are no restrictions on loan players playing against their parent clubs in European competitions.

Obviously that weakens a direct rival, while also putting pressure on those club's to agree permanent deals so they can use those players in the rest of the Europa League. However, for me it's against the spirit of the game.

6.) 28 Jul 2020 11:49:20
I honestly don’t get the rush to discard our best keeper? He’s just broken the most clean sheets record for us and appearances as a keeper, and constantly makes top saves. Yes he’s made a few blunders, but all keepers do.

As you say, Henderson has made some blunders too - what makes you all say that’s ok but not for DDG. What’ makes anyone think he can handle that scrutiny and pressure of being Utd’s No1.

I’d have him back next year and challenge him to dislodge DDG if he really thinks he can do it rather than cruise another season in Sheffield. DDG has dug us’ out of numerous holes and carried us for several years. Think he deserved his contract and a little more respect.

What happens in the following scenario? Wolves win tonight and we don't, leaving Chelsea and Wolves in 5th/ 6th. Both clubs go on to win the European cups on offer, taking a place in the Champions League as a prize. Do England get 6 clubs in next year's competition (sure I've read somewhere that it does not) . Does fourth place lose it's Champions League place? What about 3rd?

MonDieu

1.) 26 Jul 2020 11:36:28
Most any country can have is 5. 4th would miss out due to Chelsea winning the champions league as it is expected if a team can win champions league they would qualify whereas Europa league actually has a spot given for the winners.

2.) 26 Jul 2020 11:37:19
Let's jump off that bridge when we come to it.

3.) 26 Jul 2020 11:37:30
Yer I think your right.

4.) 26 Jul 2020 11:40:09
I should also add 4th would miss out completely but 3rd would have to go through the qualifiers as the winner would go straight to the group stage.

5.) 26 Jul 2020 11:40:38
In that situation, yes we’d miss out.

6.) 26 Jul 2020 14:41:05
In that situation bayern need to be investigated they won the 1st leg in Chelsea 3 nil so if they lose by 4 at home there needs to be a stewards enquiry😂.

So many other names as well who I think will be out of contract next year: Dybala, Fati, Dembele, Pedri, Camavinga, Kessie, Pelligrini, Zakaria, Brozovic, Ginter, Romagnoli, Milenkovic, Carvajal, Onana. all good players.

Isn't Brendan Rodgers the Leicester manager? Are Leicester interested or Everton?

I'd like to see a Pogba/ Varane straight swap. Could solve both problems if it's true Varane is looking for a new challenge.

I'm not sure I buy into this suggestion that Utd overvalue their own players when selling yet undervalue other teams players when buying. If you look at the independent CIES site on player values Maguire is worth 50-70 million euros and Lukaku 90-120 million euros. Our club seems to agree with this valuation. The situation seems more like clubs bump up the price when Utd are interested but believe they can mug us off when they want one of our players.

I think some people have missed the fact that last season we lost against Arsenal away, and Brighton at home and only drew against Spurs away. So are in fact only a point worse off than a season where we finished third. Given that our injury list has been horrendous, and off-field issues are still piling up it is not the disaster the press love to make it. I agree with DB, better times are coming.

Really? The think the manager needed to tell Wan Bissaka what a right wing back was supposed to do? Everyone seems to like bashing the manager - at what point do the players take responsibility? My wife doesn't know much about football but when I asked where a right wing back should be on the pitch she got it right and had a chance of preventing the first two goals. The guy stealing 4.7 million pounds a year from the club not so much.

MonDieu

{Ed001's Note - then why isn't your wife out there? That's right because it is much easier for some no mark to criticise than it is for a professional to actually do it.}

You all seem to have forgotten the mistake Romero made in the 12th minute against Club Brugge. All keepers have mistakes in them, doesn't mean everyone should turn on them.
