For the English lads. What would you rather: United win the Champions League or England the world cup? The two aren't mutually exclusive, I know I know, but still.

United with CL has better odds than England with WC.
I’m not from England so ManUtd more important for me.

2.) 08 Mar 2018 09:51:59
United > England.

Once more than England, world champions twice!

3.) 08 Mar 2018 09:58:14
United.

4.) 08 Mar 2018 11:27:02
Always united. Hate international football and no longer have any hope or expectations for the national team unfortunately.

Utd - But in my younger days the best nights/ days in the boozer were during an important International game, with everyone all vying for the same result and pure patriotism on display. Had England won the World Cup during this period I don't think the enjoyment could have been surpassed.

Club rivals would become friends for the night, women would let themselves go, it was like the shackles of normal life were torn off. Never quite the same with club football for obvious reasons.

I only watch England now if I have literally nothing else to do and I can't imagine the passion being the same again any time soon for the next pub going generation (I don't blame them) .

6.) 08 Mar 2018 19:51:53
Very easy answer, Utd. I'd like England to win it to celebrate as a country but nothing beats winning the champions league.

Come to ireland beast mate when ireland are in the major tournaments the atmosphere is great everywhere. Pints and craic galore win lose or draw. 2 of the best weeks of my life were in Italia 90.
As a 20 year old myself and my mate booked ourselves to go on a 1 day trip to the last group game v holland. Parked in the short term in dublin airport and both left wearing our ireland jersey green shorts 1 big irish flag a wallet and paaport that was it. We drew and qualified for the last 16. Their was a party in the square and our bus game to collect our tour party at 3 am. Needless to say we didn't get on. We slept on the beach under our flag that night. I squared it with work and my mate worked for his dad so we stayed there for the last 16 penalty win and for the 1/ 4 final in rome. Blagging our way into rooms or got lucky with a local😍 a couple of times. Slept on deck chair by a pool one night. No prob getting tickets. We bought clothes as we needed them it was mental. I got home broke. The carpark cost about 280 quid and i was paying off the credit card for 2 years but memories that will last forever. Usa 94 was a different story but just as much fun. But 99 noucamp still has got to be my best night ever as a football supporter.
Play crap and win i'd take it anyday.
obviously i'd prefer to win playing great but we stole that one and it felt better than a 10 nil win.

I'm going to break rank here and say England winning the World Cup.

I'm not a huge England fan, the way the team and football in this country is run is shocking and I find it so hard to watch England and enjoy it.

Yet I have been fortunate to see United win the UCL twice so far in my life time, and I wouldn't be stunned if we did it again a few times before I die.

However, England winning the World cup would only happen once in my life time at most. To experience that would be immense.

9.) 08 Mar 2018 20:27:34
England to win the world cup for me, it's a good bet it may not happen in my life but utd have won champions leagues a couple of times and hopefully they will win it a few more times. It gives the whole country a lift and supporters of teams with no chance of ever winning anything can be part of it and cling to that tiny hope . I'm sure the Irish, Scots and Welsh would take great joy to and I bet it felt good to be Welsh at the euros or Irish in 90 .

10.) 08 Mar 2018 20:50:42
I think for us Celts, qualifying for a major tournament is a great excuse for a party abroad. Anything else after that, like actually winning a match, is just a bonus. Spain 82 was wonderful, but being in Barcelona in 99, probably just topped it for sheer drama.

11.) 08 Mar 2018 21:16:38
Wow ken I’m so jealous! Sounds like such a blasts and memories that you cherish for life. To be fair the Irish were class at the last euros and know how to have a good time. Incredible support.

Unfortunately I’m born in the 90s so I missed euro 96 but the old man said it’s the best summer of his life. He said the whole the country united together and he never forgets how much fun he had. I do think if England were to win a major tournament it probably would top united winning the champions league as the whole country would be united celebrating together. Can’t see it happening any time soon unfortunately.

12.) 08 Mar 2018 21:41:16
UTD 👊👊.

13.) 08 Mar 2018 21:56:38
Park it's been an absolute rollercoaster following England in tourneys but there's always been that faint hope that it was possible, Ferdinand Terry Beckham scholes Gerard lampard shearer Owen it has like the feel Belgium have now and yet we underperformed most of the time, mixed with rotten luck and damp squibs for managers . The national team has lost interest to many now as the flicker of hope has pretty much gone . We still have expensive players playing well stones walker Kane and such but the worst midfield we have ever produced and now from it seeming a longshot it's just no chance .

14.) 08 Mar 2018 21:59:24
I went over to euro 96 to see a game at ot germany v Czech republic 3 nil Germany i think. Full stadium and the atmosphere was great around the town that night. Flags and banners everywhere. i'd advise anyone to go to a major intl tournament. Its been said above. The the nations supporters unite and it makes the mood lighter Its usually a great atmosphere and great fun. If the Irish qualify for 2022 I'm not so sure there is enough alcohol in Qatar to satisfy demand. 😂.

England winning a World Cup for me. I agree with Beast, some of the best day/ night sessions I’ve had with all my mates have been centred around England in a major tournament. The butterflies in he build up and utter despair when they lose. The pubs used to be rammed to the rafters with England fans. Sadly not anymore.
I’d like to think if England played in a final, the pubs would fill up like the good old days.
Saying that, how sweet would it be if we went and won the CL in May. That would take the shine off what City have done in the league.

16.) 09 Mar 2018 00:43:50
Great tale Ken, love the 'to hell with it' approach and I'm sure we'd enjoy a great night out exchanging tales of crazier times. I'll let you know when I next head over to the Emerald Isle mate.

17.) 09 Mar 2018 01:54:41
@Beast, should have a night out in Belfast when the GAWA are playing. You’ll never see a night like it. You’d have been amazed if you followed us during the Euro’s, Nice became a BTEC Shankill.

18.) 09 Mar 2018 13:17:31
Whilst my answer is still the same and I would prefer United to win the CL I have to admit that England winning the world cup would be absolutely amazing and some of these posts have made me realise that it is a lot closer than I thought.

That atmosphere of everyone supporting the same team that Beast mentions is something that you just don't get any other time, my heart still aches for Gascoigne and Anderton's misses in 96 and Batty's penalty in 98 after Owen burst on to the scene. 2004 losing on penalties to Portugal after such an amazing game still sticks in the throat too to be honest.

I think the lack of latter stages since then has made me think differently but if we got to a QF or semi final of the world cup I think it would be absolutely amazing.

Getting me excited for the summer now, hopefully enjoying it after United won the CL in May ;)

19.) 09 Mar 2018 13:48:27
Please do beast.

20.) 09 Mar 2018 20:02:54
As for a great night Beast i don't think anything can surpass a certain night in May 1999.

Predictable lol!
Who I support has no relevance to the points raised in my post.
At least though you not denying that you in fact ARE bitter losers.
It's telling that you had to (typically) pluck out history instead of debunking by raising current and relevant footballing points.

Much good your history doing you right now huh?
But no worries. Your 2nd place troph y may still be up for grabs, utterly unconvincing as you might be even for that. Good luck i'm the coming 7 days, going to need it. Invoke your history too, if that'll help.

You'd know about borefests more than most now wouldn't you?
Must be painful, really painful for you I can imagine. Having to watch that dire tripe every week in the context of City, Liverpool and Spurs brilliance is too much to take isn't it?
The fact that City, Spurs and Liverpool. NOT Man Utd. are the PL's top sells, the main events, the box office picks, that must be hard to take innit? Not even your false placing of 2nd in the log seems much consolation.

So yoy react the only way you know how: bitterness, bitterness and more bitterness.
Spurs, City and Liverpool rightly are getting plaudits and respect for the way they play and represent the game.
The highlight for you seems finding/ manufacturing petty, insignificant flaws about their games. How sad. That how low you fallen?

Look, your team has not headlined the PL for a quite a long time now, and honestly there's little to evidence of that changing anytime soon.

It hurts, we get it. You are bitter, we get it. It's also hella nice to see. Priceless seeing ya'll grasping at straws downplaying City's class and Spurs and Liverpool's brilliance.
By next week Monday you'll very likely be outta the top 4, your 'we're second in the table' gone. What you going to pluck out then?
History? That you won the Europa last season?

Such bitter, bitter bunch you are.
