Morning Eds,

Any truth that United are trying to sign Wan-Bissaka?

Also, what's the plan with Sanchez this summer? I'm sure the club would be happy to get rid but is anyone interested? Is there any possibility to move him on without the club taking a huge hit on paying half his wages etc?

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you're a Liverpool fan?

{Ed001's Note - are you sure you replied to the right thread?}

2.) 02 Jun 2019 18:16:58
Nothing to do with this rumour or anything.

Just wanted to ask, is it just me or is Wan-Bissaka something you would expect to hear if you were watching Bo'selecta?

3.) 02 Jun 2019 18:44:59
Lol ed001, just wondering why red dawn is on here pondering the future fortunes of Man Utd rather than nursing an almighty hangover following LFC champ league win!

{Ed001's Note - is Red Dawn a Liverpool fan? Never seen the name on the Liverpool site...}

4.) 02 Jun 2019 18:45:45
Congratulations on your victory last night ed1? Two finals in two years isn't a bad feat.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate. My neighbours won't have enjoyed it though, I was still jumping around singing YNWA at the top of my voice at 3am. It was about half past when my voice gave up that they got any respite! And I am not a good singer by any means.}

5.) 02 Jun 2019 19:28:34
Ed001

It was damned noisy where I am, plus with students finishing their exams and also 3rd years finishing their degrees, it was extremely raucous until the wee hours of the morning.

People were still out when In got up this morning.

Well done on the win.

Awful game though.

{Ed001's Note - it was noisy here with half the building being Egyptians!

It was always going to be an awful game played 3 weeks after the season finished in heat like that. Players lose intensity when they are not playing games and Spurs clearly lacked match fitness.}

6.) 02 Jun 2019 20:58:35
I was surprised they picked Kane Instead of Moura.

Spurs being Spursy.

7.) 03 Jun 2019 10:09:40
Ed001. that hurts, that hurts badly man. I'm on the Liverpool site a lot, comment quite a bit and have even donated on there?

But anyway, I am a Liverpool fan but also a football fan so I was wondering what United were going to be getting up to this summer. Didn't know it was against the rules to take an interest in the transfer dealings of other teams?

{Ed001's Note - just shows how much notice I take of the names and the site I am on. I see so many Red ones, on here Liverpool and the Forest site, they don't stand out to be honest. Apologies.}

8.) 03 Jun 2019 10:31:38
Only joking with you Ed. Appreciate the hard work you do across all the sites. I am certain you are not adequately rewarded for it, so thank you again from all of us.

{Ed001's Note - it's fine mate, I really should take more notice of the names. I have never been good with names unless they play football. It has only got worse as I got older, now I struggle with the names of footballers as well!}

One for Ed007 if he's around.

Hey mate,

Me again. Look, I know it's been a while, but I just wanted to apologise for my rant at you a few weeks back. I think we both misunderstood each other and I just got annoyed.

It's no excuse of course but my wife had just been taken into hospital and we had just lost out on a new house having dumped a few grand into the process, I was just royally pissed off at everything and venturing onto the interweb was probably a very bad idea!

Anyway, hopefully no hard feelings, and I apologise for getting angry at the time.

All the best mate.

Steve (RedDawn)

RedDawn

{Ed007's Note - Cheers but don't be worrying about it, Steve, I actually had to look back to see what we were 'debating'. Forget about it pal, I hope your Mrs is keeping better and you get a house sorted.}

1.) 03 Oct 2014 14:37:44
Ed07 is Scottish and we all know they don't hold grudges 😝 lol

2.) I bet Ed 007 is the one who Gazumped you RedDawn!

Seriously I hope things turn out ok mate.

Liverpool fan in peace!

I would love to know what Man United fans think of your squad now?

For years I have looked at the United squad and been quietly jealous of the strength you had throughout the team!

Now however I look at our squad against yours and I think it is the first time I can honestly, hand on heart, say that I think Liverpool have the better squad.

I look at United and think that you are incredibly top heavy, whilst having some amazing attacking talent (especially if Falcao is completed today) your central midfield and defence to me looks very ropey. Which is ironic, because that's how Liverpool have been for years!

Anyway, hopefully this can be a bit of a light hearted discussion.

Cheers all

RedDawn

1.) I'd like to help you out but I have no idea which way you came in.

2.) Your assessment of our squad is pretty accurate although I'd still prefer our squad to yours.

Our attacking options are considerably better and there are only two Liverpool players who would improve our starting 11 (Sakho and Henderson/Gerrard). Possibly Sterling too if we were going to play with wingers.

Conversely; Rooney, Mata, Di Maria, RVP, Falcao, De Gea and Rafael would improve Liverpool whilst players like Shaw, Rojo, Herrera and Januzaj are at least as good as the likes of Moreno, Lovren, Allen and Lallana.

3.) I hear you and totally agree. We have a great striker force, an unbalanced midfield and a shallow defence. We need a Yaya Toure kind of midfielder, a Roy Keane back in defence and a Sol Campbell back there. Our back is easily exposed and jittery on set pieces.

While all that is said, once we have Rojo, Herera, Blind, Di Maria and Mata clicking, we will be a nasty mean attacking team with very creative players in all sections of the field. It will also mean our bench is rich and deep and that is something we have not had for the past 3yrs. Cleverly, Anderson, Nani, Young are all not United Calibre, they were a drag. Smalling is coming up but goodness he is not what we need to win the league with what all the top 4 done with their teams and benches

4.) There is a squad that's happy playing with confidence and a squad struggling with confidence. Man for man we have a far better squad, but when you cannot gel or string two passes together, then having better players is irrelevant. Football is a team game and Liverpool are an excellent team. We have better individuals, but we are poor as a team. That will change with time. but no doubt you are the better team.

When you are playing well and winning your players look great, when it goes pear-shaped the same player look poor. That's football.

5.) 01 Sep 2014 18:01:52
Yeah I know what you mean. I'd swap RvP, Falcao, Rooney, Di Maria, Herrera, Januzaj, Blind, Rojo and Shaw for Lambert, Lallana, Ballotelli. Errr no, no I probably wouldn't.

6.) Couldnt agree more, nice to see a liverpool fan looking to hold a sensible discussion about football matters rather than winding up, agree with your summary, were very top heavy, we have wealth of talent in attacking areas although our wide men are abysmal other than januzaj, were desperate for a midfield general to allow the matas of this world to flourish, get a leader in at the back to babysit these defenders we've had for years and should either be ready to stand up and show there worth or shipped out and we have a title challenging squad. letting vidic go is a school boy error.

7.) 01 Sep 2014 18:07:52
In a joint starting 11 I think our keeper 1 CB jones LB(shaw) di maria rvp falcao would all start sterling lovern henderson and either allen or gerard would start the team would have to play with 10 men as neither side have a top right back. the bench would be liverpool heavy

8.) Really nice to see a couple of people being able to hold a sensible conversation.

It's worth pointing out that I never said that United didn't have top players, or that individually they had some better players, I said that I thought Liverpool's SQUAD was better.

There are many things that make that up, youth, experience, the way the players work together, the way they buy into the philosophy, the ability to play multiple systems and the ability to bounce back from set backs.

United obviously have some amazing individual players, my comment was purely that the squad, whilst talented, seems unbalanced, much like Liverpool's did for many years.

9.) Wait till we put a full team out there and then we can discuss teams and squads. No comparison in my mind mate. Only 352 holding us back. 4231 or 433 and we will be off to the races.

The media is quite fickle and a couple of games smashing teams they will all suddenly rave about how good and unplayable we are.

10.) RedDawn - I'd say the key element in squad strength is the quality of the players. Of course things like confidence and cohesion are important - but these are things that will come with time. Our confidence will grow as results start to go our way and chemistry will grow as the players get used to each other; but players like Rickie Lambert, Squirtle, Mignolet, Johnson, Toure, Lucas, Allen and Borini aren't suddenly going to become great players.

Liverpool have a squad of decent players whilst Manchester United have a squad with some genuine world class players. You've said on multiple occasions that our squad is unbalanced and implied that yours is well rounded - and whilst I agree with you that we're top-heavy - I think that your defense is as weak as ours and will prove just as leaky over the course of 38 games.

The only area of the pitch where you have us beat for squad depth is in central midfield (it's worth remembering that if Hendo and Gerrard were to pick up injuries you'd be left with Lucas and Allen who aren't any better than what we have). The other 9 spots we have you matched or bettered and our back-up players are no worse than yours.

11.) Reddawn. Actually while I disagree about your assessment as individuals. We have the superior individuals by far. But BR has got Liverpool playing as a team, while we're still searching for that, injuries and a load of new faces, have not helped.
But if and when lvg gets this team playing as he wants them, I think we're going to be a handful for anyone.

12.) Lallana who got in a lot of teams of the year playing in an 8th place team isn't (currently) better than Januzaj?

In what situation will Falcao, Rooney, RVP, Mata and Di Maria all play together. Will it be a Moyes late game scramble again?

Sturridge - top English scorer. Sterling - scored 9 and assisted 5 at the age of 19! Coutinho blows hot and cold, but is still only 22. Same with Balotelli. The average age of the back four against Spurs was 22.75. Henderson is fast becoming a world class talent. Allen is still only 24 and is a great squad player.

You shouldn't be so quick to brush off the majority of a strengthened squad that finished 20 points above you last season and still outscored you without Suarez's goals (which would mean playing with 10 men).

Did the dominance of Germany show nothing at the World Cup, along with the successes of drilled squads such as USA, Costa Rica, Chile, Columbia.

I'm not trying to say your team doesn't have good players, but just defended Liverpool.

Goals per game ratio? Like I used in my first post that you then said was wrong?

I'm now totally confused, that's exactly what I said in my first post (0.2 and 0.07) goals per game.

You said quite clearly that a 0.2 scoring ratio meant 0.2 games per goal or 5 goals per game. Which would have meant that 0.07 would be over 14 goals a game. Are you now saying that that was wrong?

Baseball, cricket, rugby, oh and football, all of these sports use the same scoring system, why are you having a go at baseball in particular? I don't understand

Is deadline day getting to you a little Ed007?

I really don't get where you are coming from apart from trying to belittle a Liverpool fan for the sole reason they are a Liverpool fan posting on the United board. Should I just stay on the Liverpool site from now on?

But then I'm sure you won't accept that you just read my original post wrong, you will either not post this response, or just be offensive again.

I really do appreciate all of the hard work that you guys put in, the sites are all great, I visit everyday (not pausing the ads at the top and keeping the volume on as I know that helps) but I just don't get it when it becomes offensive, from the users, or especially from the Eds. It's a real shame, in an otherwise exceptional operation.

Anyway, I hope you can all relax a bit after silly season guys and gals, and reflect on a job very well done!

It seems that the original point about valuation of players will not be discussed, and in that case I bid you good night!

Cheers everyone, happy international break!

RedDawn

{Ed007's Note - I thought it would confuse you, I'd imagine it's not a difficult thing to do. How can anyone score 0.2 of a goal it's not difficult is it? Normal people would say he's scored 2 goals in 10 games or he's averaging a goal every 3 games, not he has scoring rate of 0.2, if anything it reads he hasn't scored in 2 matches as in 0 and 2. Do you want to talk about batting averages?}

Common sense would dictate that I meant 0.2 games per goal, not 5 goals per game, surely?

It would not be common sense to think that I meant Ander Herrera scored on average 14.29 goals per game!

However, the scoring ratio was never really my point.

I don't understand why everyone is so obsessed with what other teams pay for players. Each club values players differently. Chelsea could have taken Markovic for half of what Liverpool paid, they decided not to. Doesn't mean anything really!

RedDawn

{Ed007's Note - Don't be a 3.14159. We use traditional British football talk which is a goals per game ratio, not some Americanised trendy nonsense you've borrowed from a game of rounders. Look at this time-stamp on the LFC site: 24 Jul 2014 11:31:24 where it was explained before.

Umm sorry, but that is simply about how you interpret it, I would suggest you are interpreting it differently to the majority.

A scoring rate of 0.2, I, and most others I think, would view as 0.2 goals per game. Not 0.2 games per goal.

In the same way you would count number of successful passes per game, tackles per game, shots per game or assists per game, not number of games per successful pass (although that might be best for United's midfield at the moment!)

The same system is used in Baseball (eg 0.333 hits per at bat), same in cricket (eg strike rate of 67.7), same in rugby (points per game) same in almost every sport worldwide as far as I can see.

Although that does detract from the point I was making about the relative prices of players.

RedDawn

{Ed007's Note - You didn't explain what formula you were using so there's no need to apologise for being wrong. You can't just type random thoughts or numbers and expect people to follow your train of though.
We have a baseball site if you want me to post a link up, we use the common sense system in here.}

Rip off if Balotelli cost £16mill.

Don't understand why everyone seems to obsessed with what other teams pay for players!

If I was I would comment that United paid £29million more for Herrera, an uncapped 25 yr old with no premier league experience and a scoring rate of 0.07

Whereas Liverpool paid £4million less for a 26 yr old full international, with 2 years premier league experience and a scoring rate of 0.2!

But then that would be petty!

Clubs will pay what they think a player is worth, some clubs will value players differently, that's supply and demand!

RedDawn

{Ed007's Note - We've had this discussion before about scoring ratios on the LFC site. It was agreed you lot were wrong, a goal every 0.2 of a game is 5 goals per game (0.2 x 5 = 1) or a goal every 18 mins.}
