I know it's very early, but Lindelof isn't filling me with confidence! Last season I hadn't heard of Bailly but he came in and dominated. Lindelof looks a bit lost. Think we should have gone for VVD personally. Prem proven (although over priced but who isn't in this market) . I realise it's no a rumour just had to get it off my chest.

I thought Lindelof started shaky last night but thought he grew into the game and looked much better second half but I'm hardly surprised he's getting written off already it's a common theme on here.

2.) 09 Aug 2017 08:01:06
VVD would've been ideal now, but we've got Lindelof so let's get behind him rather than judge him off a few pre-season friendlies. We'll have a better idea about him after a few months.

3.) 09 Aug 2017 08:07:45
If you all remember Vidic and Evra were very poor when they initially came, albeit in January, but it took that half season for either of them to come good .

Last nights game just shows we are closer than we have been but still so very far away from where we should be .

At least 7 squad players not Manchester United players and it's the first era in as long as I can remember when we have nobody who loves the badge, who would die for the club, our team used to be full of these.

It will be a battle for top 4 again, hopefully with nicer football than what we have all witnessed over the last few years .

4.) 09 Aug 2017 08:36:18
Great points fellas, Vidic did look ropey and look what he went on to do. Am probably guilty of unrealistic expectations and after 4 games he deserves support not criticism. Roll on Sunday nice win and 3pts.

5.) 09 Aug 2017 08:44:01
I think lindelof will turn out fine like you said he just needs some time what worries me is whilst he is getting used to things we will have to play smalling or jones.

6.) 09 Aug 2017 09:01:53
The question is after pre season who deserves to start.

7.) 09 Aug 2017 09:14:03
Lindelof looked much better in the 2nd half last night, really grew into the game and that will do him the world of good. I would play Jones and Bailly on sunday and gradually bring Lindelof into the team once we are playing well, can tell he has bags of ability so I am sure he will be fine.

8.) 09 Aug 2017 09:17:46
Give the lad some time.

9.) 09 Aug 2017 09:30:45
I remember Vidic first few games well, he looked an absolute dud. I think people underestimate the step up in pressure being at this club brings with it, Lindolf will come good I'm sure most of the pundits and scout reports state his mental strength as one of his main attributes.

I really think we need to address the fullbacks, we have Matic now which I personally feel is a great acquisition to give the team balance. We could really do with improving our fullbacks though. A lightning quick winger with amazing ball control and end product would be the icing on the cake. Ousamane Dembele would be perfect for us in my opinion.

10.) 09 Aug 2017 09:45:56
I remember ADMS's first games and he looked amazing.

Vidic and Evra were noticeable bad, so what, what does that have to do with Lindelof? There have been plenty of players that have been signed that have done a lot better than Lindelof. Just taking the worst example we can remember doesn't make it ok or mean that Lindelof will improve to the Vidic level (or further) . It's like people saying Ronaldo took time to settle, to jusitfy Depay's performances, how did that end up? Same with Evra/ Shaw and countless others.

I'd love Lindelof to turn out to be a Vidic clone, but using the worst thing about Vidic to justify it is too much of a stretch in my book. Early days but it's a pet hate of mine this line of thinking, because it excuses literally everything and means nothing.

11.) 09 Aug 2017 10:07:56
Beast I don't think people are making that correlation, I think we are merely saying it's too early to pass judgement on the lad.

12.) 09 Aug 2017 10:37:35
He's played a few friendlies for god sake!

13.) 09 Aug 2017 14:23:15
Definitely too early to pass judgement I agree.

I don't understand why Vidic is mentioned in that case. Lindelof hasn't even started yet, so how do we know he will be as slow as Vidic to get going for example?

Just a little gripe I have with people picking extremes to justify a point.

I know we have "targets" but is anyone else worried about us not actually closing these deals. The Inter manager is being a tit and Chelsea are asking for silly money for Matic. Any Eds or someone "in the know" put my mind at ease I'd be grateful 👍🏻.

1.) 29 Jul 2017 09:47:45
Harry, I really think there is more to come but the fundamental problem / worry to me is woodward. If, IF we do get perisic then he really needs his p45 as we will undoubtedly pay a lot more than we could have earlier. I have little faith in his negotiating players transfers, however he seems to excel with sponsorship deals. One of the best moves imo would be to take him out of transfer talks and appoint a n other.

2.) 29 Jul 2017 10:14:56
We have a great squad and one of the most successful managers ever. The squad will be improved further across the next three windows. Be at ease. :)

3.) 29 Jul 2017 11:03:14
Be patient my young padawan (One for all the Star Wars fans) 😆😆.

4.) 29 Jul 2017 12:48:01
Yes Harry, i'm so worried I couldn't sleep last night. It took me hours and hours thinking over and over about the targets slipping away.

NO!

5.) 29 Jul 2017 12:50:02
Agree with you 100% cooky. He excels at making money through sponsorships and has signed us some good players. However some of our deals drag on and on and never materialise. BRFO I normally am but when Jose is looking as frustrated as he is saying hel take 1 more if that's all he can have makes me uneasy. I don't think it helps city and Chelsea chucking the 💰💰💰 around. I know you can't buy the title but we have been after Carricks replacement for years and I don't think any of the names being linked can do it. 😩 Wow I can work myself up.

6.) 29 Jul 2017 13:32:15
Harry even SAF signed targets right up to the last minute (Berbatov) . Jose has told everyone the type of players he wants or has he . He is a bigger mind bender than SAF so don't be surprised if we sign Bale another striker and two CDM 's 😆😆.

7.) 29 Jul 2017 14:16:48
I have been very critical of the Glazers in the past. I still firmly believe they were responsible for failing to match City and others, especially European teams, in competing for top players because they needed to improve the debt ratios. However, since SAF's retirement, no one can accuse them of not spending. It's not the fault of the owners or executive directors if the wrong players have been purchased. And if SAF was the reason Moyes was hired, then you can scarcely blame them for the initial poor choice in manager either. Nor can you really blame Woodward if the transfer targets on Mourinho's list are unattainable because the current club doesn't want to sell, the player wants to stay/ go somewhere else, or a transfer ban prevents a main target from arriving. And, finally, if our problem has been the scouting system or pipeline, then is Woodward the one responsible for it having fallen into disarray?

8.) 29 Jul 2017 16:00:20
Shaw. Completely disagree. If you look at our "net" spend since Glazers took over, it isn't great. It isn't until last year that they spent big and that probably was included in mourinho's contract. We've bought two players this time, but we've lost zlatan, Rooney, schneiderlin, depay, schweinsteiger off the wage bill. So we need the club to replace these with top players.
It has been no secret that we've been chasing Perisic. We could have bought him for £45m 6 weeks ago. But we've been arguing the toss as we only want to spend £40m. Now it looks like a deal might be struck at £48m. Who do you think is responsible for losing £3m in less than 6 weeks? It is like he wants to play poker with other clubs but tgey can see right through him every time. The guy is not equipped to negotiate transfers.

9.) 29 Jul 2017 16:20:45
SchMidfield
totally agree regarding perisic but tbh not a clue about the figures, but seem to recall the eds stating alower fee wouldve gotten the deal done earlier. I think we will be in the hunt right up to the line both buying and selling on and really believe that 1 0r 2 stated by JM could be actually 2 or 3.

10.) 29 Jul 2017 18:27:20
Schmidfield. My point was that it's only since SAF retired that the Glazers have spent money, although we are still being outspent by City. Prior to that our spending was woeful for the reason given: the Glazers needed to reduce the club's debt ratios. So it looks like you actually agree with me. And how on earth do you know for sure that we could have had Perisic for £45m 6 weeks ago? You have absolutely no idea exactly what's going on with regard to transfers and the amounts offered.

New to the site but like what I am seeing. Just my thoughts on potential signings. I'd like to see Perisic, Fabinho, Morata, Mendy and Matuidi. I think that would give us the squad to push on all fronts!

Perisic sounds like a financial tug of war at the moment. I'm fine either way with him. Fabinho rumours have built up lately for us, although maybe City and PSG are interested. I am very hopeful that we get him, would add a lot of balance to the midfield. Morata could become a very good #9 for us, as of now it sounds like a question of whether he is staying or going. Mendy I have not heard much about, other left backs have been spoken of, such as Martins from Espanyol or Tiernan from Celtic, this position seems hard to predict at the moment. I like Matuidi a lot, he would a lot of energy and tempo to the midfield, though I have heard him possibly going to Juve.

Saw in an earlier post about Reals shape and how they're full backs stayed out as wide as possible creating an out ball, an attacking threat whilst creating space for others. Think Valencia is capable but we need Shaw back and ready to fight for his place or Rose/ Bertrand again mentioned in earlier posts.
