So DM now says we have play opposition AND refs. Does he have any idea how pathetic, amateurish and desperate that makes him sound? Words fail me.

RedSince68

1.) How many times did we hear SAF use the same excuses over the last 27 years? Would you describe him as pathetic, amateurish and desperate? I've said many times on here I'm not Moyes' biggest fan, but everything negative is polarised at the moment because of the slump we are in. Truth is . Moyes has done and said very little so far that is any different to what SAF would have. Perhaps that in itself is the problem?

2.) The difference is when SAF said these things it was the cream on the top of an overall winning strategy.

Moyes is making excuses for losses.

He sounds like a loser, he is failing to motivate the team, he is presiding over an unusually high number of injuries, he failed to show up in time to influence transfers in the summer, he dismissed the wining back room team, he is setting records for losses weekly, he is stubbornly sticking to outdated tactics and formations that don't even suit the players that we have available, he needs to take responsibility.

He needs to either get SAF involved or make way for someone else.

For once, why can't we just offer a sensible bid and get a good deal done? Mata - dithering Dave just get it done . please, for all our sakes.

RedSince68

1.) Where do you play him, do you sit Rooney or even sell him?

He is a pure number 10 and not effective on the wings and neither is Rooney. Easy to say let's buy him but it is not what we need the most.

2.) 04 Jan 2014 09:51:20
GCU.
Brilliant. one of your most sensible replies. Most here needs big Name. Doesn't have a clue whee we going to play him. If he was effective in wings, He would have been with Chelsea.
We Need a Hazzard type player in the left side. and one on the right side.

3.) You make it sound so simple, even if we offered enough chelsea probably would'nt sell him to us and whose to say he would want to join us?And like GCU said, where do we play him, he's not what we need.

4.) IF Chelski would sell Mata to a prem rival and note big IF, then I think we would have to buy. Rooney & Mata together would be very good.

I don't buy this we already have a number 10 (Rooney) so we can't fit him in. Remember Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo all played together.

Chelski last season, imo had their best games when Mata, Oscar and Hazard played together.

Can we not have Rooney, Mata and Kagawa together, although I'm not convinced with Kagawa atm, no doubting his ability but he is struggling to adapt to prem, maybe Mata to play off is what he needs?

5.) Chelsea would probably give us Mata plus £20m for Rooney. We could then play Kagawa in the hole and have enough money to buy a LB and further strengthen the midfield.

6.) Paulo, we should have enough money to do that anyway, without selling Rooney.

7.) Mata is not a pure number 10 he played as a winger for years at Valencia as well as in the middle. He would be better than anything we already have in the wide positions and can play middle to relieve Rooney when needed, but we have no chance Jose is a little rat, he talked about we should sell Rooney to them as it would be a shame to see a good player leave the league but I bet he would not sanction any deal to us involving a player that could make us better

8.) 04 Jan 2014 13:36:59
Rooney, Mata and Kagawa together?

Jesus. what kinda formation would you play?.
Rooney in the middle, Mata and Kagawa on the wings, whom Moyes feels, they aren't good enough to track back which will pressure our full backs more than 100%?.
Some people just want some big names. why don't we buy Joe hart and play him as a sweeper?.

9.) 04 Jan 2014 13:40:11
Paulo.

That would be a good business or we need to sell Kagawa and play Rooney in the middle.
I would only take the money If we are nailed on 2 players in the middle, or else It would Improve Chelsea with Jose Playing Rooney Top up and Hazzard and Willain on the wings.

Apart from Spurs and City, None have a decent Midfield. and moreover Chelsea have the worst striking department. But their Attack minded Wingers are Brilliant. Game changer.

10.) Katef

He does not have the pace to play on the left wing and neither the defensive approach to track back. Can you imagine what we would be like with Evra and no help from the let winger:)

Why do you think Mourinho is not playing him. I will not argue he is a brilliant little player but he is a umber 10. If we buy him Rooney and Kagawa will not be needed long term, as mata has demonstrated he can both score a lot and assist in a lot of goals. He is technically better than both of them, but not what we need at the moment.

Does anybody know when we last lost four home games in a single season? Suspect we may end up with more though!

RedSince68

1.) 2001/02 season Lost 6 home and 3 away. Finished 3rd, 10 points behind Arsenal with Liverpool 2nd.

2.) That's just league game of course.

3.) In 2003/2004 we also finished 3rd and lost a bunch of games both home and away after having won the league in 2002/2003 season. I can't remember how many home losses.

Whilst some people are in shock, we have had similar seasons in the past with a lot better teams than this current bunch and back in those days the league was much easier than what it is today.

4.) In the press yesterday they said at the same stage in the season this was our worst home record for 51 years.

03 Jan 2014 09:39:37
Annoyed with Moyes (yet again!) after Sunday's game trying to make out the only reason we didn't win is because we weren't given a penalty, when the real reason was that Spurs came to "fortress Old Trafford" and out-played our misfits, simple as that. Get a grip on reality Moyes.

RedSince68

1.) Don't remember Fergie getting slated for using the same type of excuses for the last 27 years. I'm surprised that Moyes hasn't been blamed for England losing the Ashes too!

2.) Did you watch the game? We certainly were not outplayed.

3.) Red

Talking complete nonsense, I bet you did not watch the game. Spurs sat back and defended, we dominated, possession, shots, corners but can't get the ball into the net and conceded twice from the left flank on counters because Janusaj did not track back and evra went to sleep. WE were robbed on a penalty as well.

If you are going to post then post something that has some intelligence.

4.) 03 Jan 2014 11:23:18
So what do you Expect from a visiting team?. All out attack?. Nonsesnse. they had their game plans set. and Believe me, they were the few teams who started 2 up front and still found a result.
We had balls. We didn't had anything else.
Lenon and Soldado had 2 clear cut chances to finish the game. we were caought at their blistering pace. and moreover we were pretty poor in the middle of the park. All I saw was Janugaz. Each and every attack came from him.

5.) Attitude

If you are going to look at it that way, yep they were great. We should play like that.

6.) 03 Jan 2014 12:25:02
God Created.
Mate If you look at the Players Spurs have got, Its a nightmare for any opposition. They have almost 7 first team players Injured. and they are getting back to their Best.
But No Excuse, we should have won our Home Game.

7.) GDS and GCU

Before the 2-1, they're clearly better than us. They won deservedly.

The penalty is just a poor excuse. No one can argue that we doomed this season. It's not like we're playing well but we lost, we aren't playing well and we are losing in consequence of that.

What I found surprising is that people think that is normal to loose at home like that. We're so proud.

8.) Nick86

We are not smashing teams at home like we used and that has been the case for a few years. You do realize that we had a pretty poor run even last season towards the end but it went unnoticed as the league was won in the first half of the season.

I am not sure what deservedly is in your book mate.We can disagree on one thing if we played the way spurs played against us away from home, people would be up in arms about our lack of control even if when we win. They hit us with 2 counters and withstood a Barage of pressure.

We seem to have the same script this season. We struggle to get that key first goal against better opposition and then get hit on the counter. We are not good chasing games as we leave ourselves too open to the counter.

Attitude

Please save me the spurs lecture and where have you been may I ask. Even when they were in melt down mode a few weeks ago, I posted they are going to be more in the running for top 4 than Everton or Newcastle, so I know exactly what they have and what they are missing. Our best first 11 is still better than their best first 11.

There is a clear divide on this board as some see all the negatives and some see positives even when the results are not going our way. I think most people struggle with the fact that we are not dominant anymore and that is function of other teams being better and us not investing in players and it has finally caught up.

18 games to go in the league so let us wait and see where we are. March is a brutal month for us we will need a fully fit and heathy squad.

9.) "The penalty is just a poor excuse."

Really, why is that. It should have been given and would have made a big difference it terms of keeping us ahead of spurs and point closer to teams above us.

I can see the press headlines already if it was the other way round. Nothing about us winning but the injustice of spurs being denied a clear penalty.

Janusaj is getting lumps kicked out of him but he makes the headlines for diving. The press in the UK hate us, which is a function SAF treating them like sh. t for years and just generally because we are United.

10.) 03 Jan 2014 16:03:17
GOD.
Mate with respect to our club, Ashley young have won us more penalties than any other player on the planet without actually deserving it.
At Home we shouldn't rely on 94th min penalty to seal the win. If we were good enough we would have won this long in First Half.

11.) Shahram, sadly people these days have lost sight of what a penalty is. If a goalkeeper goes for the ball and connects with the player (regardless of if the player jumped to avoid challenge) it's a penalty. If it happened outside the box it would have been a freekick and the keeper would have been booked. People have lost sight of what a penalty actually is. Skrtel should have given away about 30 already this season, but referees do not like to give penalties even when they are PENALTIES.

12.) Sydney

It is open hunting season on us including from some of our fans which is truly sad. Some are not even worth responding to at the moment as they are spewing complete nonsense stuff and lack the character to deal with adversity.

Young is also out now with a shoulder injury, so is rooney. We have an alarming number of injuries now and quite a heavy schedule given being still Involved in all competitions. I know it sound terrible but not a bad thing if we get knocked out of one of the domestic cups and can focus on the League, CL and one domestic Cup.

The schedule is to blame, how dare they give us WBA at home so early in the season!

Yeah, but has an (slight) element of truth. We really have lost our air of invincibility and that unfortunately will take years to restore . we really do seem, for now at least, to be there for the taking. As a supporter of 40+ years that makes me so sad.

Dags, good post but can't see powers-that-be forking out the necessary cash.

Mouronhi will demand Rooney in part-ex in any deal for Mata. With the way we played on Sunday with Rooney running around trying to do everybody else's job he may well decide he's had enough and push for such a move. Rooney won't stay if we don't make top 4 in any case.

If the glazers do sell, and that's a big ask the new owners will be just as hard nosed - you do not invest £2bn then had over the club to numpties and say get on with it - MUFC is a massive business, just being appallingly badly run at present.
