Are we under pressure with wages under FIFA rules, do we need to sell some high earners before we can sign certain players? I assume the worry is we buy 4/ 5 players and then can't move on Lukaku, Pogba and Sanchez etc for a decent price.

Redconl

1.) 20 Jun 2019 15:40:31
We have pretty much maxed out our wage budget under FFP. Meaning if we increase it too much this summer we will fall foul to sanctions. Such as a fine or a ban from European competition.

The issue is that we might have to settle some contacts to get those players off the books. That would eat into an already stretched wage budget.

So we will need to sell some big earners if we want to bring in more big earners. The problem is we have some fairly average players on big wages, meaning they are hard to get off the wage bill.

2.) 20 Jun 2019 17:02:18
can we get a source to this rumor please?

3.) 20 Jun 2019 18:16:02
Nope, that's not how rumours work. Once you have a verified source it is no longer a rumour but a fact.

i.e. I heard a rumour the Earth orbits the sun. Not a rumour but a fact.

However, I heard that Ed007 secretly sleeps in Rangers pyjamas. Rumour until someone is brave enough to venture into his bedroom at night. 😂.

{Ed033's Note - I heard a rumour that the Blue Marble is not a true representation of the Earth. :)

Can't believe Pogba came out with the dream of Madrid comment at this very important time of our season. If he wants out, just get rid but tell him to shut it until the end of the season. This will go on now until the end of the Summer window and probably include DeGea too.

Redconl

1.) 20 Mar 2019 19:35:51
Apparently Madrid interest has gone (per Ed002). But we have been told many times Pogba wants out.

2.) 20 Mar 2019 20:05:06
Real Madrid's interest moves elsewhere, so now Mino and Pogba react by batting their eyelashes to try and bring them back into the frame.
He doesn't want to be at the club, regardless of how good he is if a good offer comes in for him and he wants to go we should accept it and move on.

The sames goes for any player who doesn't want to be at the club, including DDG. If we are to challenge again we need players who want to be here, and will fight to be here.

Rio mentioned something the other day about United needing to sign players with the right DNA.

We need players with the right attitude as well as having the talent. If Pogba can do that then great, glad to have him. But if he can't have the right attitude and he wants to be elsewhere, then thanks for the last three years, wish you luck and off you go.

3.) 20 Mar 2019 20:26:32
I am not bothered if Pogba stays or not as I find him extremely frustrating to watch.

Brilliant and a world beater in one game and then doesn’t turn up for the next 3.

No doubt about his talent and ability just a question mark over his application and desire in some games.

I know Ronaldo is a different type of player but his desire is unquestionable and is what sets him apart from the rest imo. Whichever team he plays for he just raises the whole team as he demands it from himself and others.

Look at the fall of Real Madrid since he left. Yes not all down to him leaving but that has had an effect. Then he joins Juve and takes them up a notch. No way they would of turned around a 2-0 deficit in the first leg against Athletico 12 months ago.

Pogba needs to have a similar effect in the teams he plays for in order to be truly great and make all the circus and side shows worth it.

Put Roy Keane’s playing brain in Pogba and you would have the best CM player ever seen. Alas this is not the case.

If he wants out then let him go and take the money.
We can re-build and bring in young players that we can mould into the Utd way.

4.) 20 Mar 2019 20:49:22
international break. was expecting some stories.

5.) 20 Mar 2019 22:05:50
Why are people so upset, he said Real Madrid would be A (not THE, but A) dream team for any player. From a sporting point of view, that is true. But he also said he's happy at United and the present atmosphere. Just thing it's been blown out of context as usual.

6.) 21 Mar 2019 00:15:16
Shappy you hit the nail on the head, players should be grateful to he at the club.

7.) 21 Mar 2019 07:55:40
Ludwig
Nail on the head.

8.) 21 Mar 2019 17:04:48
Question
If it was Herrera that said RM is 'A' dream for any player would people be saying the same?
Absolutely not.

9.) 21 Mar 2019 17:21:42
Some may see it as a nice thing, i personally see it as flash. The rings that Pogba got for the French world cup winning squad are just bling. Sums up Pogba for me.

10.) 21 Mar 2019 22:01:27
That recent Zlatan comment on co92 regarding Utd makes perfect sense now, Riaola using his pawns to make moves.

Being realistic who do you all think we will get this summer. Can't see any big names arrive despite paper talk. James already in, ABW should arrive, Fernandes for midfield and maybe a CB. De Gea to stay for now, think Sanchez will stay too and hopefully we can off load both Lukaku and Pogba.

Redconl

{Ed004's Note - Im hoping for something along the lines of Wan Bissaka, Milenkovic, Ndombele/Rabiot, Fernandes and a winger of some sorts like Pepe or Chiesa. Ideally Pogba stays and De Gea signs a contract. Likes of Lukaku, Sanchez, Rojo etc can leave}

1.) 23 Jun 2019 17:53:28
Just out of interest ed004, why would you want to keep a player who is unhappy and wants to leave?

{Ed004's Note - Because I dont trust the club to replace him this summer. We have a lot of other signings needed. He cant exactly throw the head up with Euros next summer. A lot of options in midfield for that french side}

2.) 23 Jun 2019 18:11:21
Signing Ndombele and keeping Pogba would give us a very strong base with Fernandes in front.

3.) 23 Jun 2019 18:59:09
If Ndombele is such an excellent player why United are not heavily linked with him? as Herrara already left the club and future of Pogba is uncertain.

{Ed004's Note - Because hes probably signing for PSG and was apparently Madrids back up option for Pogba and Juventus as well. Spurs seems to have had a bid of 60 mill turned down too}

4.) 24 Jun 2019 08:40:39
Ideally, I would favour the following:

De Gea
Meunier - Varane - Lindelof - Shaw
Partay
Rabiot - Pogba
Fernandes
Rashford - Martial

It would suit that 4-4-2 diamond Solskjaer seems to like, and it would allow for a switch in play with Rabiot able to drop alongside Partay for Pogba to move forward and allow Fernandes to attack with the strikers moving out wide. With all of Rojo, Jones, Damian, Young, Lingard, Sanchez and Lukaku leaving. Tuanzebe, Chong and Greenwood should be promoted. I'd favour Meunier as a childhood united fan who can fill the role while Dalot develops.

I'd also get a young RW, someone like Chiesa would be great.

Realistically, I see:

De Gea
AWB - Smalling - Lindelof - Shaw
Matic
Fernandes - Pogba
Lingard - Martial
Rashford

I don't think a CB will come in for the sake of it. Maybe one of the younger ones Ed has mentioned. I would like to see Tuanzebe get some game time and maybe Bailly finally get a good run to knock Smalling out of the team. I think Greenwood and Chong will be promoted to offer competition to Lingard and Rashford. With McTominay, Pereira and Fred being the midfield backups. I see Lukaku leaving but do not think he'll be replaced, hopefully Darmian and Rojo too. The rest will all likely stay.

I feel it will take moving out a few players to instigate the new arrivals, l still say we are near our limit on the FFP wages rule so unless we reduce them we are stuck.

Redconl

1.) 21 Jun 2019 22:22:49
The books change over from July the first for FFP so that maybe another reason signings are not currently happening.

However, moving players on that are surplus to requirement and renegotiating certain contracts must be a priority for the club surely?

20 Jun 2019 23:00:04
Talk of social media and lack of maturity and leaders reminds me of a story John OShea told when Keano was captain, the rule was no phones in the dressing room and one rang in a players pocket, OShea said the whole squad were rubbishting themselves knowing he would freak out. Imagine what he would have done to Lingard and Pogba with their antics. Standards has fallen so much, no respect, no dedication. Just immature Muppets and they're in their mid to late twenties now hardly kids.

Redconl

1.) 20 Jun 2019 23:46:53
There is also a case of family values and upbringing which some of the kids of todays age clearly lack.

2.) 21 Jun 2019 05:06:22
Would this be the same Keane who got kicked out of multiple clubs for being a nuisance, picking fights, spitting in other people's drinks etc and once needed fergie to bail him out of jail for assaulting women in a bar, so much for family values and maturity.

3.) 21 Jun 2019 05:32:09
Csm you are right that keane was not a role model from any angle but what the OP is trying to say that he was focused and wanted his team to have no distractions before and during matches. I don't think this is too much to ask of your employees, who you are paying thousands of pounds per week.
I know it's the personal life of these players and no one can tell them about the use of social media or other stuff but the club have every right to ban cell phones from dressing rooms before matches.

4.) 21 Jun 2019 06:19:51
Sailor has there been any report suggesting any players using phones pre match or during half time?

All this outrage is down to lingard's stupid video which while cringeworthy happened in a hotel room not during any game or in a dressing room.

5.) 21 Jun 2019 07:37:53
Wish Keane was in our dressing room now to kick some ass.

6.) 21 Jun 2019 10:01:06
If Keane was in our dressing room now he would be taken to court for work place haressament/ bullying. Times have changed and how we can deal with things has as well.

No point romanticising about how things were, or the way the world used to be. We need to find solutions that work in the modern era.

16 Jun 2019 14:44:53
If reports are true of Rashford demanding huge money I'd sell him, can't start this stuff again.

1.) 16 Jun 2019 19:37:28
This is reported in The Sun.

15 Jun 2019 08:43:28
Looks a bit like we are trying to recreate the team SAF had at the start of his sucess, looking at a young UK player core with a few low profile European additions. This worked in the 90s, but football has moved on a lot since the 90s.

Redconl

1.) 15 Jun 2019 09:53:36
I disagree. Look at Bayern, Juventus and Barca. All built on a core of players from their respective nations. Look at the players Bayern are signing. Not massive superstars but players who are good with a lot of potential. Similarly Madrid with Jovic, Mendy and Militao. Liverpool haven't exactly gone the superstar route either.

We're an English club but we're overfilled with mercenaries who don't care. People may sniff at the likes of McTominay, James or Longstaff but they'd put in more effort than some have been.

2.) 15 Jun 2019 10:25:20
Maybe without champions league football and a well renowned manager (doesnt mean he won't do well), we are finding it hard to attract players.

That might well be a blessing in disguise.

3.) 15 Jun 2019 11:03:24
Liverpool fan in peace here. From an outside view, I think any sort of actual plan is a start and you guys need one. Pretty much the whole squad is stagnant and a fresh ethos is needed. The idea of buying young, British players who will want to stay with you for the long haul rather than primadonnas chasing paycheques is definitely more of a long term plan but build a solid core and add the sparks around it as time goes on and who knows where you’ll be in a few years. It’s not meant to sound as patronising as it probably comes across, but sometimes it’s better to knock the house down and start again than to paper over the cracks. Good luck, you’re going to need it!

4.) 15 Jun 2019 11:40:23
Agree with you red tbh. Liverpool are a good example, not too many years ago to had issues but built the right way and look at you now.

5.) 15 Jun 2019 11:53:44
Good post RDWW.

6.) 15 Jun 2019 12:01:19
Mort

Is this the same Real that just splashed mega millions on Hazard in his prime or Barcelona who have splurged on many occasions recently from Suarez to Coutinho? Throw a Vidal in here or a De Jong there. Or are you making the point about Juve who who have purchased many huge names over recent seasons including a 33 year old Ronaldo to keep them on top? I will give you Bayern but even then the players the bring in are usually of substantial reputation and costly.

Fact is McTom (who I like), Longstaff and James will not win the league.

As for Liverpool would you not agree mega millions spent on the likes of Allison, VVD, Firmino, Salah, Fabinho, AOC etc as significant?

7.) 15 Jun 2019 13:06:49
I'm not saying they haven't spent mega money. My point was they've got the core squad in place first then add to it. We lack the core squad.

Madrid will always sign superstars. They're ran by an egomaniac and the fans are spoilt brats. Just look at the Hazard presentation with the Mbappe chants. Disgrace. But Zidanes also been chasing targets that aren't superstars.

You mention Coutinho. How'd that work out? I think Barcelona are going to have trouble in a few years actually.

Juventus signed Ronaldo to win the champions league not keep them on top in a serie a they utterly dominate.

{Ed002's Note - Madrid wants to buy Mbappe as well as part of a complete rebuild - and they have a lot of players available to be sold or exchanged. Juventus and Barcelona are rebuilding as well - and Bayern Munich.}

8.) 15 Jun 2019 14:14:50
I get there all rebuilding it's how they are doing it. There are different approaches and we as a club need to find one that suits us.

9.) 15 Jun 2019 14:36:34
Mort I think you have to take into consideration that Spanish and German players are generally of a higher quality than English players.

There’s only really Kane and Sterling who would walk into any other nations side right now, and we won’t be signing either of them. Our days of cherry picking the best players in the PL are long gone. It’s much easier for Bayern, Juve, RM and Barcelona to do that.
