Spending x y and z on high profile players has left us wanting and not getting value for money so to speak.

Sometimes I think to myself, we would of been better off buying players who are premiership proven and don't cost too much. The high price tag and expectations really seem to knock our players wind out,

Jose holobas, Ryan Fraser, idrissa Gueya, Raul jimenez and Ben Mee.

These players could easily do better than some players at MUFC and cost far less than most recent signings.

1.) 17 Feb 2019 17:00:29
Disagree but fail to give your opinion.

I suppose our players are the best in their position yes? Holobas and Raul Jimenez have been playing with heart for the their team and manager ALL SEASON. Idrissa Gueya stats are all higher than NM go check it out Ryan Frasier has been a stand out midfielder for AFC Bournemouth ad Ben Mee is a left centre ex MC player head and shoulders above Jones at left centre.

So state your disagreement.

Looks like 4th might be securable after all.

That and sarri getting Sacked at 6.30 tonight.

1.) 10 Feb 2019 18:57:53
I don't know what's happening at Chelsea its a right mess, if they sack sarri it's back to square one again.

2.) 10 Feb 2019 22:34:22
Lampard will take over next season if he gets Derby promoted. I am sure they will follow the United lead for some positivity.

3.) 11 Feb 2019 09:53:35
Grant or Hiddink for caretaker then they'll look for whoevers the top rated coach in Europe and ruin him.

4.) 11 Feb 2019 11:48:31
Poch to chelsea?

5.) 11 Feb 2019 12:16:50
That would be funny and solves that issue.

6.) 11 Feb 2019 12:38:08
Jose return?

7.) 12 Feb 2019 08:19:09
When you allow the players to determine who they play for and who they don’t there is always potential for anarchy.

8.) 12 Feb 2019 11:22:23
When you play kante as an atracking cm there is the potential for anarchy.

9.) 15 Feb 2019 13:21:28
Lol jred. Both red mans and your own are true.

But that's he culture that Chelsea have created Red man and I think it's too far gone now to be reversed in the modern game.

31 Jan 2019 09:04:26
With fellani off the payroll, Ed is now willing to offer Martial an increase from 120k to 195k to sign a new 5 year contract and D. De Gea will get a nice 100k weekly top up if he signs a new 5 yr contract too.

Happy days ahead.

23 Jan 2019 23:00:49
Their may be 15 games to go that decide our final league position and I'm a little bit worried to say the least. CS is a liability in the box and PJ lacks the tools to be a decent defender. I wish Bailly took the chance to get back into the team due to the fact that the LCB position is our wekest point in the team.

We should be going all out to get Kalidou koulibly in the team but we will twiddle our thumbs and watch klopp sign him up and kick ourselves for not signing him.

1.) 24 Jan 2019 03:39:06
Kalidou is happy where he is, and not available for transfer for now.

2.) 24 Jan 2019 12:15:39
He is the obvious choice at CB, strong in the air, great with the ball at his feet and prefers to operate as the left hand centre back.

Yet, making this transfer in January without a full time manager was never going to happen. He will cost a club record fee for a defender possibly for any player.

You don't break club record fees for a player while you don't have a manager. If the next manager doesn't want him then the club have wasted loads of money and look very foolish.

3.) 24 Jan 2019 13:32:33
Bailly has never played LCB, he always plays on the right of the two.

We can't pin our hopes on the accident waiting to happen that is Bailly. If Arsenal are interested we should let him go, as Arsenal/ Europa League is his level.

As Kenedy said, Koulibaly seems happy where he is as has been mentioned by 002 more than once.

If we're to push on and challenge then we need to prioritise an established CB with experience of winning titles, and move Bailly, Rojo and Jones on to clubs suited to their level.

4.) 24 Jan 2019 14:24:57
Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't Lindelof been starting LCB and been playing well?

I think the issue is finding a RCB to partner him.

5.) 24 Jan 2019 14:57:55
Lindelof played on the LCB under Mourinho but looks much better on the RCB where has been played by Ole.

6.) 24 Jan 2019 15:23:35
Koulibaly maybe unsettled in Italy because of the continuous racist attacks.
At 27, he would be a brilliant top class addition to our team. He could have similar impact which Van Dijk did at Liverpool.

7.) 24 Jan 2019 19:09:03
If there is any truth to the ongoing speculation then surely a punt on the £30m Alderweireld at a quarter of the price is the way to go? A proven top Prem defender whose absense would put a chink in Tottenham’s armour too.

8.) 24 Jan 2019 19:59:55
Spenno, I wouldn't be upset if we brought in Alderweireld. I do have two slight concerns with him though. Firstly his injury record recently hasn't been great, and at his age that is unlikely to improve. Secondly he is exclusively a right sided CB, which is the same as all our CB's bar Rojo. So that would mean one of our current CB's would have to play in their weaker position. Which isn't ideal.

That being said Alderweireld is an excellent CB.

9.) 25 Jan 2019 10:46:37
If Kouilably isn't available maybe we can enquire about his National team's CB partner Salif Sane (I know he just join Schalke this season but . ) or Jonathan Tah.

10.) 26 Jan 2019 06:45:38
I thought Bailly took a good step forward against Arsenal last night. He and Lindelof May still prove to be a good combination. Both are still on the young side for CB’s.
An experienced (though not old) CB would still be a good addition.
Then try Tuanzebe as the 4th, Smalling as a last resort.

11.) 26 Jan 2019 18:37:42
Only a handful must watch our games. I'm well aware Lindelof played LCB but that was under Mourinho. KenedyAndy is aware of my point

Lindelof is playing RCB now and Jones was LCB and was a liability hence me saying LCB is our weak point. It seems some posters would rather find argument or flaws on this site for any reason.

We are playing after Mourinho so my comments are present in position not asking for judgemental biased views poking posters with stick

As 002 would say RTFP and proof read h5y to think through.

20 Jan 2019 21:51:01
I guess it's a conditioning and fitness issue that becomes more and more of a struggle to hold on to the leading score.

It is more likely down to mourinhos out dated game where we were becoming stagnated in our play. The sideways and backwards play meant no pressing and less work rate so fitness levels need to be drastically improved.

Enough gloom and doom 7 wins from 7 well done Ole GGMU.

1.) 21 Jan 2019 06:05:24
Yes, the intensity of our pressing drops down drastically after the hour mark.
Hopefully, it gets picked up gradually over the coming months.

2.) 21 Jan 2019 09:37:24
There are several issues when settling into a new style of play.

For us we have gone from a team that runs the least to attempting to press higher and more frequently. That level of fitness isn't something that comes out of thin air and will take time to build up.

Also attacking patterns and combinations which just didn't happen before will have to be worked on, improved and perfected.

February is a tough month, we have been fortunate that we have had a run of games which on paper at least are easier to practice and improve. Over the next month we will see what this squad and this manager is truly capable of.

3.) 21 Jan 2019 11:13:27
Lingard and Herrera are two that work their bollocks off and then drop off mid way through the second half in games. I hope that Sanchez can seamlessly fit in to the fluid front three and that will alleviate one problem, Fred should likewise be able to dovetail in the midfield but he's only shown flashes of promise thus far. If both of those start playing like we know they can then we should be able to blitz teams for 90 minutes. Sadly, as Gary Neville said in commentary vs Spurs I don't see where Lukaku or Mata fits in to it.

4.) 23 Jan 2019 20:12:27

If we managed to sign Joao Felix, it would be a massive signing albeit I feel it's a year early. That being said if we waited then Liverpool might get their man and imagine Salah on the right Felix on the left.

Just need to work out if Martial would be happy to play in the right or up front with AS on the right.

1.) 18 Feb 2019 21:43:59
Who is he and why would he be a great signing?

2.) 18 Feb 2019 21:58:14
And where is Rashford playing in this dream team of yours?

24 Jan 2019 09:36:07
We are some 3 weeks away from the Liverpool game. This will be the first game against the scousers we will enjoy hopefully as the bus be left in the car park. I personally hope we get a draw due to our weak defence. Do you guys hope for more?

1.) 24 Jan 2019 10:18:29
I see no reason why we can't win it. Yes it's highly likely that we will concede a goal or two. Yet they have defensive injuries and the pressure will be huge on their players. A loss against us could cost them the league. I expect Ole to go all out for the win. It's not in his nature to expect anything less against Liverpool. Plus it really would ask a serious question of whether he should get the job full time if he can beat Liverpool.

All that being said, Liverpool will be very dangerous, they are in contention to win the league for the first time in 29 years for a good reason. They are a very good team this year and we will have to be at the races to beat them. But I feel we could.

2.) 24 Jan 2019 10:47:04
I don't see City dropping too many points so Liverpool do need to win most of their games if they want to win the league, a few draws (which would be expected in a long season / title race) could derail them when normally they would be clear favourites with their current points tally. It will be interesting to see if they can cope with the pressure at the business end, the game at Old Trafford is absolutely massive for them and hopefully we can take something from them, I would be hoping for a win in current form.

Not taking the cups seriously could be a blessing for them as Ed has said in the past they are obsessed with winning the league and that is really Klopp's only objective, their squad isn't big enough to cope with all the competitions, for example we play Arsenal away tomorrow whilst they have a full weekend off before their midweek fixture, that can only be a huge help.

It would be interesting to see what happened if they did win it, whether they would try to improve the squad or be happy that they have finally got the monkey off their back and defend it like Leicester.

3.) 24 Jan 2019 11:43:11
If the win the league, I would expect Liverpool to look to strengthen further for next season and push on .
It’s a totally different scenario to Leicester as they could’nt realistically go again to challenge the following season, whereas Liverpool are one of the big guns.

4.) 24 Jan 2019 11:51:17
Yep, Liverpool are building for the future. They have the backing to compete at the top level, and winning the league would cement this. The biggest issue they’ll face is wage inflation as they’ll have to stump up bigger and bigger wages to keep their key players.

5.) 24 Jan 2019 12:45:12
Early december- i would be happy getting a point ; i reality even scoring a goal wouldve been room for optimism- but now I don't see any reason why we can't beat them tbh. The players seem more content and if reports are right there is a buzz and belief around the club again with a firm plan of trying to play flowing attacking football. Regarding, liverpool winning the epl, still a way to go and they've bottled before- if they do pull it off to repeat/ sustain title winning form I reckon they might have a few recruitment issues to deal with along the way like most other clubs : the united fan is hoping city before them and if not just a mere 30 year blip;)

6.) 24 Jan 2019 14:32:10
Win win win 3-1 to us!

7.) 24 Jan 2019 18:47:48
We need to get at them, we have momentumand hopefully will have built on that even more so let’s get at them. No shame in losing but if we do, let’s hold our heads high, attacking and trying to win.

24 Jan 2019 00:59:08
Who is better in your opinion Rashford or Frankie De Jong?

Barcelona forking out 75m on a 21 year old is a big gamble.

1.) 24 Jan 2019 01:04:46
You should ask who is a better value. Pogba at 100 mil or Frankie at 75 mil.

2.) 24 Jan 2019 02:00:56
Rashford as we already have him :)

3.) 24 Jan 2019 02:52:08
Diff position, diff player. Hard to say who's better. But if we sell rash. On that value of frenkie, 100mil would be it I think.

4.) 24 Jan 2019 03:35:59
Different players and play different positions. Both highly rated.

5.) 24 Jan 2019 03:58:42
They play absolutely different positions.
Can't even compare.

6.) 24 Jan 2019 08:19:58
Who's the better goalkeeper, Rashford or De Jong?

It makes little sense comparing players who play in totally different positions.

Frenkie De Jong is one of the most talented up and coming young players in the world. There probably isn't a more promising central midfider around at the moment. He will be the successor to Busquets. And one who might actually become a better player.

Rashford is one of the most promising young strikers in world football. He could go on to have a phenomenal career.

Both of them probably make the list of top 10 best players under 23.

Hopefully Rashford fulfils his potential and we never have to worry about how much he's worth as he stays with our club.

Talent gets you a chance, hard work and dedication makes you world class.

We know these lads have the talent, now we have to wait and see if they have the right attitude.

7.) 24 Jan 2019 09:23:09
Good post Shaps.

8.) 24 Jan 2019 09:20:05
Singh and Perth know their stuff

Rashford was a RM before LVG deployed him as a striker. The object of my post was value?

If F de jong is worth 75m based on his stats! Then what are MR stats and does he merit a 75m tag.

9.) 24 Jan 2019 10:20:54
Hopefully the only time his "worth" will be relevant to us is on a balance sheet.

Does it matter if the media value him at 55m, 75m or 150m?

It only matters when someone makes a bid, and then only if the club and the player want to accept it.

Other than that it's just wild speculation.

10.) 24 Jan 2019 10:24:39
To be fair, Reddevilfan, your post asked who was better. Apples and oranges.

11.) 24 Jan 2019 11:44:01
Based on stats? Well goals win games and Rashford has scored more so Rashford is better. although De Jong has made more tackles which have stopped his team conceding goals, and if you don't concede then you get at least a point. So maybe De Jong has played a more pivotal role in his teams accumulation of points.

Rashford can jump higher, but De Jong has a larger hand span. Rashford has size 10 boots, whereas De Jong size 11. Rashford only speaks English whereas De Jong can speak two languages.

I mean what do these stats tell us? They are about as important in judging two players as any other stats based on two players who play in totally different positions with totally different roles.

I'm not sure what it is you want to hear, Rashford is a forward which sell for more than other positions so Rashford is worth 100m? I'm not sure what your point is?

12.) 24 Jan 2019 13:37:25
It doesn't matter because we're not selling.

23 Jan 2019 23:02:21
Over the years we have a Little habbit of signing out of contract players over 30

Athletico Madrid have 3 players in the final 6 months of contract

D. Godin 32
F. Luis 33
Juan Fran 34

Would you take a gamble on all or either of these players for a season?

1.) 24 Jan 2019 00:12:19
Godin has signed for inter. But I would definitely have taken a punt on him.

2.) 24 Jan 2019 08:23:53
No, none of them. Two are full backs which is a hugely physically demanding position, especially in the EPL. Where one of them has never played and the other one has but struggled. Godin has been great, but I think Italy is the best place for him at this stage in his career. For as much as he has acted as a mentor for Giminez, Giminez has acted as cover for his lack of pace.

3.) 24 Jan 2019 09:29:16
I would have selected him and FL as he is better than young and Shaw and would have prob gave Shaw food for taught.

( I'm sure many of us taught Smalling and Phil Jones would have learned of Rio and Vidic? I doubt they even bothered to watch and learn ).

4.) 24 Jan 2019 10:22:46
You learn mentality, how to approach games, maybe even a certain amount of how to read a game (although most of that comes from experience) . You can't learn talent off of other players.

Smalling and Jones lack the talent.

5.) 24 Jan 2019 11:49:35
Luis would at best be back up for Shaw, he couldn't hold down a place in the Chelsea team when they had no real quality at LB. The league was too quick for him 3-4 years ago, I doubt he has sped up as he's aged.

6.) 25 Jan 2019 06:22:31
At the moment, Godin can easily slot in along side Lindelof. A good organizer and reader.
But it's 2 years too late.

20 Dec 2018 07:33:56
I'm sure we are all hoping OGS injects some life into UTD. He has nothing to loose but everything to prove also.

What players can create energy on the field? My energised team would have to be
Martial rashford Sanchez
Periera Pogba Fred
Shaw lindelof bailly dalot
Ddegea

Now that's a young energetic team ( ex Sanchez ) that with some confidence and smiles! Should be able to get out of park and into 2nd gear lol.

On another note wtf did we not sign bale. He is coming into his own. ( Until JM signs as manager.

1.) 20 Dec 2018 07:46:46
herrera instead of pereira for me as he would add some cover for the defense along with fred.

2.) 20 Dec 2018 08:08:53
Herrera instead of Pogba i just think Pogba’s Attitude and form has not earnt him a place in the side.

3.) 20 Dec 2018 08:57:51
Pogba should be no where near our team and sooner he's gone the better.

4.) 20 Dec 2018 09:26:11
Reddevil, that is the exact team I was talking about at work today. We might be open to the opposition attack but for me we could own the ball with that and really attack. Whilst I hate promoting bad behaviour I would give Pogba the captaincy and make him accountable on the pitch and off it.
Clean skate for the past and let's see what we do going forward.
I just hope Ole is brave with his selections.

5.) 20 Dec 2018 09:40:26
I'm hoping we can move Pogba on in January, in an ideal world along with Sanchez.

6.) 20 Dec 2018 10:16:07
Lets get rid of De Gea while we are at it Shaps, make sure we have no potentially world class players in the squad ;)

7.) 20 Dec 2018 11:45:55
GDS, I'm not doubting Pogba or Sanchez's ability or their potential to be world class. Just that for whatever reason we aren't seeing it with us. If they can't perform for our side then its best they leave. Veron was a world class player, yet he couldn't do it for our club.

Pogba I feel will struggle to reach his potential on a consistent basis, we will see flashes of it during games, maybe even the odd game where he is excellent throughout. Yet he lacks the humility to learn and develop. Without that he will not be able to maximise his talent. Too interested in the "Hollywood ball" rather than the effective one. Until he learns that he will struggle to be the genuine world class talent he could be.

Sanchez is a different issue, he works hard there is no doubt. Yet the rumours of him being a loner and not integrating with the squad are concerning. Our club is called United. We need players who will pull together. The rumours say he is unpopular and isolated, these rumours have followed him from Udinese to Barcelona, from Barcelona to Arsenal and now from Arsenal to us. He was good for Arsenal, yet he really only cemented himself as "world class" during one season where he played as a false No.9. That seems to be his best position, a position I don't see him playing regularly here with us when you consider we have three potentially great/ world class No.9's in our squad. So if we aren't going to see the best of him and he is a disruptive influence within our squad then it is best he moves on.

De Gea is obviously a very different matter, he is world class and generally performs to that level every week while also being well integrated and popular member of the squad. We should be doing all we can to keep him.

8.) 20 Dec 2018 12:53:22
Shaps,
I was only joking mate, I agree that Pogba should go and that Sanchez should possibly go as well, although I don’t have any issues with his commitment and do feel he could be different under a different manager that plays to his strengths. The problem is we signed all different players who all have different strengths and play better in different systems and then couldn’t find a system to suit them all.
I will be very intrigued to see if Ole and the team use any of the kids, in my opinion Greenwood and Chong are not far away from being ready, Greenwood is ahead of where Rashford was at the time he came in (which I actually feel was a year or 2 too early, but the way he started it was impossible not to keep him playing) .

5 dislikes for an opinion and question. NOT A RUMOUR just banter. I ask myself why bother.

AJH,

Yes he went to Arsenal with promise of regular football I'm sure the Ed's can give in depth detail of why he went to Arsenal.

Many players dream of playing for their fav club not all get the chance in all honesty! I sure many Championship players who supported MUFC growing up!

Would go through brick walls to play in the first team. It's just too bad 90% won't get that opportunity to because we have too many deadwood, Overweight and Overpaid wasted potential. That only play well when looking for a new contract.

Ed 004

I don't want martial to leave and obviously ZI will force him down the pecking order.

If this happens I would very much rather AM go on loan to another PL club. If AS leaves Arsenal then I would like AM to go on loan there with obvious clauses etc. The Perisic issue is dragging out and highlights MUFC issue with not paying the asking fee at that present time. The 20m increase is on us and hopefully we learn.

{Ed004's Note - But what incentives would Arsenal have to play and develop our youngster? It would probably make more sense to loan him as part of any deal for Perisic.}

I think Bailly needs to be given some faith and play LCB with lindelof. VL is growing and growing and getting better. If we look at Liverpool only VVD is quality yet the rest of defence play great under him. Why can't we achieve the same goal.
