Morning eds if you can answer, since your last sharkopod and update has anyone new been added/ taken off the united wish list?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I have explained the Yerry Mina situation - far from the perfect choice but with the financial issues surrounding others, one added somewhere down the list. Nothing has happened with Alex Sandro as Juventus have a price and don't need discussions unless that is to be met. The most significant issue is that surrounding Pogba and not being able to move him on. Right now none of the four clubs he was offered to have said that they are interested as they know the cost would be prohibitive. Mino is still looking to see if something can be done and there remains athought that Juventus might be interested but there is a significant IF - they would need to sell Pjanic and several others first, and then they could yet opt to spend the money on Verratti or Milinkovic-Savic (who they have already had a player plus cash offer rejected for). If Manchester United get stuck with Pogba then they are not in a position to look to the likes of Tony Kroos.}

1.) 31 Jul 2018 11:15:44
With that in mind ed if you have the time who are our current primary targets? For centre back is it Toby A, Maguire, Mina? Elsewhere I'm not sure.

{Ed002's Note - Try the Sharkopod.}

2.) 31 Jul 2018 12:39:01
Ed,

Just a question, do you think it's good business for United to sell Pogba and possibly replace him with Kroos?

By good business, I mean, will it be a helpful move for the club, in terms of getting the right players?

{Ed002's Note - I think selling Pogba would be good business but I think there are better options than Kroos.}

3.) 31 Jul 2018 13:33:44
And IF united do manage to sell pogba, am i right in saying its mourinho that wants kroos but the club would rather somebody else?

4.) 31 Jul 2018 13:20:27
ed02 - who would you pick? If we were to sell Pogba I would hope we went for SMS to replace him.

{Ed002's Note - Milinkovic-Savic but the price would have to drop.}

I did and very fine listening it was. Sorry just being a little impatient with this window.

Best bit of united transfer news is courtois to Madrid done. Should hopefully see that de gea contract signed.

I don't expect us to have a good season but I believe we can have a good season

So might as well live in hope till at least we are double digits behind top.

1.) 08 Aug 2018 22:28:56
Hasn't De gea already signed a new contract this summer? I believe it was around June time 🤔.

2.) 08 Aug 2018 23:07:17
Damon,

No, he didn’t.

25 Jul 2018 11:47:38
Solution to uniteds transfer problems

Martial loan to spurs on the condition they loan alderweirald to us.

Then we can buy toby next season for 25m.

Martial gets game time and improves as a player and depending who's managing united next season he can come back or be sold.

Darmian plus 35m for Sandro.

Just leaves Rw, could do a Falcao type offer for reus to see if he can stay fit.

1.) 25 Jul 2018 12:20:14
Nice scenario if only it was that simple :)

2.) 25 Jul 2018 15:31:52
or we could play sanchez, martial or rashford on the right wing, get a tune out of luke shaw and pair bailly with lindelof. how mad would that be?

3.) 25 Jul 2018 16:42:09
Mancman - agreed that would be ideal but I don't see Jose doing that.

4.) 25 Jul 2018 17:09:09
Agreed Schnauzer, but then we have to wonder why. No doubt it's because he's a serial winning manager with his finger on the pulse of the squad and we are just ignorant toxic arm chair pundits who know nothing about football.

5.) 25 Jul 2018 17:09:50
I'm sure Spurs are DESPERATE to lose ÂŁ40m+ on their player to have the privilege of developing one of their rivals young stars for a season lol. And Dortmund loaning their biggest name out in the hope he stays fit so United can get a cut price next season when he's 1 year less on his contract and one year plus on his age.

Saw the thread about giggs as manager and wondered what people's thoughts are on how much it matters for uniteds boss being someone of integrety or a person of good character? . Not asking for the boards view but your view.

Should the bosses personal life ie bedding his brothers missus matter?

Should/ shouldn't John Terry been dropped/ lost captaincy for England for bedding bridges missus?

Charlton didn't want Jose for non footballing reasons, just how he conducts himself is he right or is that an old fashioned view?

Curious for thoughts.

1.) 02 Jul 2018 10:04:42
Good questions mate. Usually when it comes to a player my view is I don’t give a damn what they do off the pitch as long as they are performing on it. In some ways I would apply that to the manager but I think it depends how on an individual’s perception of an integrous/ good person.

In some people’s eyes, Jose would not be a man who conducts himself with integrity (sir bobby’s view), whilst in others he does. If Giggs were to get the job I wouldn’t discount him based on his adultering past. Of course that’s not to say I condone adultery!

There are a few things where I would object. And they are obviously racism, sexism and homophobia. We as a club are a massive worldwide brand with a huge influence on millions upon millions of people. To have a manager that displays any of these traits would tarnish our reputation. I remember ed001 saying that sarri has said a few homophobic and sexist comments here and there. Perhaps it is culturally different in Italy, but I would have issues with him being manager based on those sorts of things.

Someone that likes the media games and causing angst for other managers on the touch line is fine for me. I like to see a bit of bite and a fiery side to my manager when he is on the touch line or the media room.

2.) 02 Jul 2018 10:40:08
Yes a manager's personal life needs to be considered. They are responsible for managing many complex personalities and are more of a representative of the club, (press conferences etc) . If they are up to no good, or have a low moral compass then that can effect the people beneath them and also bring the club into disrepute. With Giggs in particular his unfortunate decision making becoming public highlights what he is capable of, nobody knows what else he has done but unfortunately for him the suspicion is always there and the stain on his character will be permanent.

Everybody makes mistakes and there will be mitigating circumstances, but then there are roles outside of public scrutiny. If you want a high profile job then you need to ensure your public image is as clean as possible nowadays if you intend to make it.

Players are different as they aren't as important. Don't know much about Terry's case but I'm sure I read that the woman in question was the ex-girlfriend not current girlfriend of Bridge, BIG difference, still not ideal but on the face of it nowhere near as bad as Giggs situation.

We see that the team often reflects their manager. Our performances are erratic consistency wise, negative, several players seem to lack full commitment to the cause and everything seems to have a temporary feel to it for me. This is similar to Mourinho's current media persona and the impression he has given me since his tenure commenced!

3.) 02 Jul 2018 13:03:36
At least the players would know where Giggs was on match day.

4.) 02 Jul 2018 13:11:02
To be honest I think we will have to wait and see how he does, it just guess work if you haven't worked with him .
He is expected to do well tho but only time will tell.

5.) 02 Jul 2018 15:16:54
Players and managers are very different in their roles and what it means to be in that role.

Managers aren't just employees, they are the leader and key figure head of the organisation. They are the role model for those they manage and as such they set the standard of what should be expected.

Therefore, a deplorable human being in a role like that sets a pretty low bar for the players and sends out a poor message to fans and supporters around the globe.

I love Giggs, he was a fantastic player for us and has given me some wonderful memories of watching my club.

However, I don't think we will make a great manager. He might talk a good game, and it is easy to say that he suggested this player or that player, or he would do things differently. But it's all talk and no action. He needs to go out there and show he can do it differently and be a success as a manager.

The ghosts of his past will likely haunt him throughout his career as a manager. Imagine what would he say if he was managing a group of players and a situation like the one between John Terry and Wayne Bridge pops up. How is he supposed to handle that? How can he solve that issue without being a massive hypocrite? Can he console the player who has been wronged when that player knows that Giggs himself has done that to his own brother? An issue like that can tear apart a dressing room and Giggs would have no higher ground to stand and bring that dressing room back together.

Shappy
He would probably say been there done that here's some advice .

28 Jun 2018 09:17:38
Realistically we will be playing 4-2-3-1 for most of next season with Fred and matic as the 2 and pogba Central in the 3 Above.

So signing fellaini makes a lot more sense then spending 30m+ on a replacement.

I would assume fellaini will be matics back up and herara will be Fred back up and you still have pogba you can bring back to play in the 2 plus you have mctominay and tfm as further back up.

So my priority signings are a left back and right wing. If there's money left after that it would be a cb and then another cm.

Just my thoughts

Good luck to all united fans home nations unless they are playing england.

1.) 28 Jun 2018 09:56:29
I've read the Fellaini debate with interest and I think it's more what his signing represents that has angered many posters rather than the player himself.

Whilst I'm not his biggest fan he's been a good professional and represented the Club well. His perceived limitations as a player are not his fault and he always given his best. He possess a unique talent and when used in the correct way he can sometimes be an effective player and an awkward opponent.

I think at the start of the window there was a sense of excitement and optimism with changes to the coaching staff which maybe hinted at a change of philosophy and offered the hope of more expansive football.

The re-signing of Fellaini suggests to some that a leopard doesn't readily change his spots and the pragmatic football is set to continue or certainly remain a viable option.

In a strange paradox I think it's been fantastic to watch an England team playing with some intensity and imagination. I don't think anybody envisaged a year ago that Jesse Lingard would be integral to England's World Cup aspirations. The use of only one defensive midfielder with two more attack minded players is something we're just not used to from an England team and certainly wouldn't have happened under Allardyce. The fact that we've got both Ali and Lingard in the team, two tenacious, technically gifted, intelligent midfielders who both make brilliant runs off the ball, finding space between the lines is so refreshing and exciting to watch. I hope we don't revert to type and continue to be brave throughout the knockout stages. The exciting football and good weather has brought a real buz to the country.

Maybe Jose should take a look at what's happening with England and take notice. We just need Rashford to light up the tournament now.

2.) 28 Jun 2018 10:08:28
read all the posts, read most of the paper/ betting site crap and nowhere can i see fellaini confirmed as signing for us on a new or extended contract!

if its definately confirmed then fair play but until it is.

3.) 28 Jun 2018 11:18:41
At left back we have a choice of young Shaw rojo or even blind however we have nobody that wants to hug the right touchline, beat the fullback on his outside and deliver a cross. Mata always cuts back in and Jesse Marcus and Anthony would all prefer to play elsewhere.
For me therefore if we were only to make 1 more signing this window it would be a right footed (ie not bale) wide player to attack the byline as opposed to cutting in and attacking the penalty area.

4.) 28 Jun 2018 20:11:13
For such a bad player he plays for a good club and international team?
Why is that.

13 Jun 2018 11:11:26
Quick question do united still have a link to Royal Antwerp?

We used to regularly send a couple of players there each season, not heard anything recently.

1.) 13 Jun 2018 12:44:53
I think that ended years ago.

2.) 13 Jun 2018 14:41:53
I was wondering about that the other day as well. It was all the rage a few years ago having these 'affiliations' but never tend to hear much about it now.

3.) 13 Jun 2018 16:39:02
Probably because most of them were a waste of time. Very few undiscovered talent was found and the players loaned out didn't really progress playing in the Belgian 2nd division.

Reading between the lines of martials agent it seems clear to me, martial wants reasuurences he is in Joses plans, seeing Jose wouldn't and shouldn't give guarantees to any player, they are angling for a large contract which would at least indicate he is going to be a first team regular not a bit part player like the end of the season.

The fact martials agent has made public comments to me would suggest martial wants to stay, so they are trying to force the issue, if he didn't want to stay why would the agent make public comments? He would just be trying to find martial a new club, making public comments wouldn't help in getting a new club, it's not like putting an add in the messenger, there's only very few clubs who could afford martial and I would assume very few clubs martial would want to go to.

Just my thoughts.

How the conversation should go.
Levy - is martial for sale?
Woody - no
Levy - maybe Toby in a straight swap.

Woody - kiss my hairy meatballs. Its either 40m for Toby or its Shaw and 15m.

Levy - what about 50m for martial

Woody - are you talking about his wages or a transfer fee? In this market he is worth 70m easy and we don't want to sell so that's 110m for martial

Levy - We won't pay more than 50m for a player.

Woody - not my problem, 50m and Eriksen and we might talk. I'm busy conducting real business so no fannying around. You got till Monday, after that you're on call divert to my fax machine.

Eric - When have united ever not paid over the odds?

I would say most people rate martial as a good player with potential to be even better. Wouldn't class that as overrated.

Even if you don't think he has potential to go to the next level he surely must be way down your list of united problems?
And surely he has been our best left sided attacker this season? So even if you think he hasn't been good enough often enough there's been plenty worse?

Your point about Jose I agree with. The board back him or sack him.

Anyways here's to next season quadruple.

If martial can't make it at united our coaching staff aren't fit for purpose. I agree martial is not a winger and should be playing as a striker eventually.

3-2-3-2 next seasons formation fits every one in perfectly martial upfront with lukaku. Sanchez on the left pogba middle. Matic holding with someone who will help him and stay put. Bailly can hold the hands of the 2 either side of him and tell them to stop doing shite things like score og's or dive. Sorted for 18/ 19 just need 3 signings a cb a holding midfielder akin to a 25 year old Carrick and a right-sided player akin to a Beckham with crossing ability or a right sided giggs.

Beast - can't disagree with most of what you say.

I would say it's been a positive tournament for england

We got as far as we should of for me and meeting expectations is over achieving for England.

Hopefully the winter break will help us in the future. The drop off in the second half was scary and my one criticism of Southgate was that he didn't inject some more pace and freshness earlier. I would of Brought Loftus cheek and rashford on at around the 60th min mark.

But Southgate is learning and did well on the whole.

Shappy, can't disagree the 3-2-3-2 would win nothing but would be fun, was said more in jest.

Being more serious I would love to get back to having 2 up top and and I agree 3-5-2 and 4-4-2diamond would suit what we currently have.
