For all these people saying OGS is the wrong appointment. Who would of been the right appointment then?

SouthRed

{Ed002's Note - At least a dozen others.}

1.) 22 Apr 2019 10:54:45
Ralph from southampton probably would have been a better appointment on paper looking at his track record but we are where we are, just have to support ole and the boys.

2.) 22 Apr 2019 20:01:12
I'm not bothered what ed002 says. I think he could be great for us. He gets the club and when he's injected this squad with some of his signings and got rid of 5 or 6 we don't need for various reasons then it will be a different story.
It's not all doom and gloom.
Give him a chance, easiest thing in the world to write him off allready.

Can I ask beast, what is your best outcome for this summer?

SouthRed

1.) 04 May 2017 18:52:38
SouthRed - I assume you mean transfers.

My ideal scenario would be Jose walks saying he is finding the job more difficult than he expected and we hire a young attack minded manager with hunger in his belly. That is very unlikely to occur.

In order of priority:

1. Keep DDG somehow
2. Sign a Leader as a CB, somebody like Godin even one of the Juve old guard, just somebody to lead and get everyone organised back there.
3. Sign a strong, powerful, mobile midfielder who can use the ball well, which will hopefully free up Pogba to support in the box as we attack with too few players. Somebody like Bakayoko fits the bill for me.
4. Sign a RW/ LW, somebody like Sanchez, Hazard, Bale, Griezzmann, that can operate up top if necessary
5. Sign a left back like Shaw should have been, somebody like Rose/ Mendy
6. Sign a striker, although I'd be comfortable with Rashford and Martial personally with one of the wide players covering, I don't think the manager will though.

I'd tell the club that there will be no tour overseas during pre-season. 100% focus on being totally prepared for our biggest season for quite some time.

Get the deals done early. Move out several players and bring in some youth to replace the lesser ones we move on with superstars only being signed for the first 11.

{Ed002's Note - Ignoring all of the names you are likely not too far away but you can add a RB and potentially another midfield player.}

2.) 04 May 2017 19:00:11
The manager would be?

3.) 04 May 2017 19:06:46
Beast I agree with those positions and delighted to see a rb is a possibility also and another striker.
Personally I prefer fabhino to bakayoko I think he is technically better. Fabhino also has the ability to cover rb which could be useful if we can't get the rb we want.
Too many passengers in our squad some have been around for years and contributed very little. The squad players are too comfortable imo.

4.) 04 May 2017 19:06:50
Ed02 i am guessing we won't try to sign 7 in the summer and its over a couple of windows? Woody will earn his corn to get that shopping list done by september. Thanks if you get time to reply.

5.) 04 May 2017 19:08:29
Ed do you think we will sign 7-8 players this summer? That is a big summer.

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in players in all of those positions, some won't be starters and will be squad players.}

6.) 04 May 2017 19:56:42
We would need one signing less as I'm really confident Andreas Pereira will make it here.
But we might have 2 sign more as Rojo and Zlatan are out for long.

7.) 04 May 2017 20:06:41
Yeah plausible with squad additions, if people leave. Busy summer ahead.

8.) 04 May 2017 22:17:16
In a dream world I would go Walker, Alderweireld, Mendy, Nainggolan, Griezmann and perhaps Lukaku.

Does anyone think his going to use the Afro as a striker?? Pedro/depay/ young working off the knock ons

SouthRed

1.) 07 Aug 2015 22:23:55
I'll start supporting Brechin City if that happens!!

2.) 07 Aug 2015 22:46:08
Some games I would have thought so yes. Seems everybody has forgotten about Fellaini.

3.) 07 Aug 2015 23:06:21
Felliani deserves to be one of the first names on the team after last season. He is a danger to anyone

4.) 08 Aug 2015 05:19:54
spb, the biggest problem is, he's the biggest threat to us more than anybody.

As good as Fellaini was last season, and how much he contributed to the team, he simply cannot be a starter for us, as he just isn't suitable for what we need and hpw we play.

I'd honestly say Fellaini on the pitch is a bigger threat to us after a few games than he would be to the teams we play in those games. Fringe player and nothing more IMO.

SouthRed

Just read nevilles article in the telegraph. What a legend!! I think beast needs to have a good read!!

SouthRed

1.) 21 Feb 2015 09:01:03
Very good article, sensible and well balanced. He does however make some very valid points that have been debated on here. What GN has done is try and summarise the bigger picture, identifying what was needed but also highlighting what he still sees needs to be done. I think the majority of people on here (including GDS and Beast probably share 80% of the same views, it is the final 20% that causes all the fuss.

2.) 21 Feb 2015 09:58:20
The most important thing he said is that he is still unsure of what system players are being bought for. This is my biggest concern too. There is a clear lack of balance in the squad, and the summer signings added good players without any coherent attempt to address this. Van Gaal certainly appears confident/arrogant in his belief that he is implementing a clear plan, but I can't see it yet.

The bigger picture for me is, we have this guy for 3 years max. Half a year in and he still isn't decided on how he wants us to play. As Neville said, he wants success in these three years. So he's going to try to bring in proven players that can hit the ground running. For me, that's a lot of short term investment to give a man who hasn't solidifed a clear vision for the team. Van Gaal should, like any manager, be given a full season. But during the summer the club need to sit down and decide in van Gaal's short term goals are in the long term interest of the club.

3.) 21 Feb 2015 11:28:00
It clear how he wants to play. It's just the players we have cannot perform. He has bought the players the right players but the existing players just can't perform.

4.) 21 Feb 2015 11:49:43
It's clear that he wants possession football, but beyond that it has been shifting all season.

But you would spend £100 million + on a kid who has had 1 good season in the French league.

I'm not saying Vidal isn't world class! But let's be honest the seria has been in decline for the last 10 years (except inter with mourino), juventus has been walking the league for the last 2/3 years. He didn't set the World Cup on fire for chile (I know he had just come back from injury). I think we need a James McCarthy or medel someone who's going to do the dirty work and break up the play. Why mata and Herrera do there magic further up the pitch

I understand that Ed002. But aren't the players coming in better than the ones going out? So surely more pressure.

SouthRed

{Ed002's Note - I think it is simply wishful thinking on your behalf.}

What do you guys think. With Chelsea signing all these world class players, if Jose doesn't win anything next season does he get the bullet! There will be a lot of pressure on him from the big man with all this signings

SouthRed

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea are balancing the books with sales so people are simply arriving to replace people leaving.}
