SH have refused a 27m bid for Shaw, knew it wasn't going to be that easy

flint

1.) Which team ever accepts a first bid? Can't believe so many people are surprised it has been rejected. He'll come but I think it will be £30m plus a few add ons.

Coentrao confirmed season long loan, excellent but still doesn't make up for Woodward's incompetence.

TV is reporting that Baines has asked Everton to let him leave to United. He has asked the chairman to work out a deal with United. We could be in for a very hectic deadline.

flint

1.) Baines is 29 and knows this is his final chance to make it big in his career. He must force a move if he fancies playing in the big time.

2.) Sydney!
What do you reckon, will Evra be sold if Baines comes in? I don't see that hurry from MUFC (to sell Evra) therefore I feel Baines is not a transfer target this season. Since arrival of Baines would mean selling Evra the deal would have to be completed bit early IMO and there is no urgency with little time left.

3.) PR, I think MU have been looking at Baines to replace Evra for a couple years now, but it's difficult for two reasons 1) Baines is expensive and given his age it's a risk, 2) Evra will need to be sold and there doesn't seem to be any interest in him from anywhere. I said month's ago that it will be difficult to bring players in if we cannot sell players. I think that has been the case.

4.) I hope this isn't true nor happens as we do not need him right now or at all. We need players in midfield

5.) Evra at 32 cannot play all the EPL games and CL games at 100%. We need an effective back up. Contrao? But baines has proven himself in the EPL so using him interchangeably with Evra in the Premier Lg and Evra for CL won't be bad. If the price is reasonable!

6.) Love the way all you United fans think Evra is better than Baines. Are you all clueless or something.Bainsey created the second most chances in Europe last season, more than Messi, Xavi etc etc.Great on corners and free kicks, never misses pens and he's also a better defender. If you get him you'll see what I mean.

7.) I think Everton would let him go for 10 million and Buttner as Buttner would really suit Martinez style of play wheres Bains would suit United

8.) Buttner to besiktas onlan for a year maybe this means Baines is coming as Fabio hasn't been that good and would leave us vulnerable if Evra is injured

Mourinho has told Rooney to hand in a transfer request within 48hrs or they will go in another direction.

flint

1.) Flint, you may be right but we all need to understand it doesn't matter what Rooney or Chelsea want, he can't move to Chelsea without United agreeing and that isn't going to happen in this window.

2.) Would b gutted if he handed in a transfer request after the reception he got tonight. Pure class from the United fans and Rooney responded. Anybody know if he thanked the fans at the end? Eds do ye still think we will sign felanni and bains
Cheers {Ed007's Note - Fellaini yes, Baines no. I don't think Utd would pay the money Everton are looking for.}

3.) I would not be in anyway surprised if he puts one in. Does not mean we will sell but he will be finished with the fans and his last bastion of supporters once he does that.

4.) 007, I agree, especially without selling Evra too. If we received a good offer from Monaco and Evra was leaving we would pay what it takes to get Baines, but whilst Evra is still here it's simply too expensive.

5.) Rooney can hand in the transfer request all he likes he still won't be going to chelsea, desperate and laughable attempt by Jose

Dustbin

6.) I'd still sell him.
How has one game changed anything about him? A transfer request put in again, comes back AGAIN unfit for start of the season, throws a paddy because he's not the main man, never has never will be.
We could get £40m for him if lucky, plus £250k a week off our wages!
We have two players who deserve more game time and that's Hernandez and Kagawa, they both offer great dimensions.
If we don't sell him now we won't sell till next year and we'll get half the amount for him.

Melwing28

7.) Very desperate and unprofessional by Mourinho. Rooney is class and he proved that again last night, he looked like he had a point to prove and long may it continue. There's no other player in world football like Rooney.

8.) Melwing he didn't come back this pre season unfit? Apart from any injuries which you can't blame him for a few people said it's the slimmest they've seen him in 5 years.

9.) Ed 007 do you not think Baines could play left side of midfield, alternating up and down flank with evra? Giggs was asked to come on at left wing for welbeck and moyes could only trust him there for 20 mins due to his age. Kagawa not naturally left sided, Young not good enough, Danny is a striker. we seem to be a bit light left side and there ain't many better left sided players who can cross a ball better than Baines. {Ed007's Note - He probably could play there but I still can't see Utd matching what Everton want for him.}

The biggest thing holding Di Maria from joining Untied is no Champions League this yr and possible next yr. Although if he came to United that would really help qualifying next yr.

Who would have thought that Cleverley would captain the team. LVG is going to keep everybody guessing who the captain is going to be when the season starts.

flint

1.) Think it's purely because he is one of the only players that will play 90 mins tonight, that and LVG is trying to give him some confidence, hope he does well because even if we sign another CM we will still need cover every now and then

22 May 2014 17:56:25
My take on Kroos is that LVG wants him but isn't going to be used as a bargaining chip by Kroos and his agent. If Kroos really wants to come this year then he will have to tell Bayern that he wants to leave. We can't have the same fiasco that happened last year with Cesc. If Kroos doesn't have his heart in it then better to say we are no longer interested. You don't see many Germans leave Bayern, especially one so young as Kroos.

Rio will not be offered a new contract and will leave the club. Thanks for the memories, what a graceful and defender. He, Vidic and Evra will be missed, even though they are all on the downward part of their careers. Shame that all 3 are leaving the same time.

flint

1.) I think the decision should have been made before the Hull game so that fans could have said goodbyes to him.

2.) You would think we will go all out for a top notch central midfielder now. Vidic & Ferdinand gone, I think we will push for a Hummels or Mangala. City hot faves to get Mangala and Barcelona want Hummels, but we will need to go out and get a top CB now. Who will it be?

3.) Have any clubs previously expressed interest in him this season?

4.) The best club level CB partnership in the world right now is Hummels and Subotic. If we can't get Hummels I wouldn't say no to Subotic. Martinez, Godin and Garay wouldn't be bad signings either.

5.) Im happy but I expected maybe Rio to stay another year as back up to the younger lads and to help the new guys settle in as an experienced head. We need serious investment now and quickly. I would like to see Mangala/Varane, Shaw, Kroos, Meuller, Moura and Carvalho.

6.) Still think Subotic is worth a shout at Dortmund though obviously they won't let both him and Hummels go. Money talks though and we seemingly have plenty to spend. Hopefully lol.

7.) Benatia would also be a quality addition. Hummels would be my first choice, Garay second then Benatia.

Mangala is still pretty young and inexperienced. We need someone in their peak to get a good balance.

8.) I really rate subotic and I would agree him and hummels are as good as it gets but he will have to prove he has fully recovered from his cruciate

9.) Vidic, Fedrinand and Evra have been great for Utd over the years. I want to remember them all as legends, which I do, thus I am glad that they are all leaving at the end of this season.
Rio and Vidic are injury prone and have both struggled with the pace of the game. Evra has still got forward but then can't get back. The result has been that Utd's defence has played deep while leaving big holes behind the full backs.
Anway enough of the negativety as I will remember the good times with these players.

As has been stated on here on numerous occasions Utd need to bring in 5 players and it is likley that this is their intention.
As Ed has stated it is likely that we are going for a LB, CB, 2 CM's and a possible wide player.
In getting 7/8 players to leave/retire then thsat will provide space for the new signings along with some of the young players inclu have been on loan to come back into the squad.
I don't pretend to know the detail of Utd players wages but is is possible that the wage bill can be kept within its current limits.
Excited and hopeful of a new era at Utd.
Sure there will be ups and downs as that is the utd way!

10.) Cant see us paying the silly money being quoted for mangala quotes of 35mill are crazy for a centre back

11.) John - No crazier than 27m+ for Shaw or 30m for Rio; the latter took place before transfer prices got crazy as well.

12.) I'm more under the impression barca want luiz than hummels don't they, if not what about Vertongan for us

13.) Rio was older and proven top class. But I think any top player now is going to cost £25mil+, that is why we have gone backwards in recent years because we have been sniffing with the Arsenals in the £15-£20mil range.

Any English player that looks good will cost the same as a foreign player that is proven to be good, always the way. £30-£40mil now for world class and that's only if other clubs aren't sniffing.

14.) The boy from Ath Bilbao will be a great player and better than most of the guys mentioned.

{Ed004's Note - Laporte?}

Woody had months to get this done, and now he's cramming in the last 2 weeks. Reminds me of my university years.

I think getting a salary of 100k a week is the main reason he's coming.

I can't believe that we haven't signed him yet especially after the ineptitude during the transfer period. If this turns out like the Pogba episode it will be a disaster. To Moyes credit he has gotten him a game but the lad must be wondering to himself how Giggs and Young are chosen ahead of him.

It doesn't matter unless we pay 42!They will not negotiate.

It's a question of need, we need a midfielder a lot more than an attacking player.

Nobody wanted Nani because of his ridiculous contract. All we could manage to do was loan him out and I believe we are still paying a good portion of his wages.

A player is worth what a team is willing to pay for him, I thought he was just as important to Madrid success as Ronaldo and Bale were.

How much did Madrid pay for Bale last yr? I think nearly everybody thought they were crazy to pay that much. How did that work out. How much did Madrid pay for James? He was average last yr but had a great WC. A player is worth what a team is willing to pay for him. I think Di Maria is a fantastic player and would love to have him.

That's the difference between City, Chelsea, Bayern, and the 2 Spanish clubs and us. They're willing to pay the premium for certain players and we are always looking to get a deal. Bottom line!

I think Welbeck would have made a difference, not saying he's the answer but he provides power and pace. Offers much more than Hernandez

I will be getting up at 5:45 here in Costa Rica. Hopefully I will get to watch the entire game before the wife wakes up.
