Not surprised at all with the defeat. Our football has been below average for a long while now. How has mourinho still not got rid of smalling is shocking. Seriously smalling and jones have survived at united just for filling the english quota of players otherwise they would have been nowhere near the first team.

luckily we are still 2nd because of the way chelsea have played lately.

We are at serious risk of being overtaken by Liverpool and spurs if our performances don’t improve soon. Not good.

Everytime i watched united this season the opponents half always seems crowded and we struggle to find space or create goals from open play. On the other hand the opponents seem to find a lot of room and time in our half even though we play defensive cautious football. Still amazed we might end the season 2nd with all our problems.

Its very simple, we don't have real wingers. The players that get to play on both wings don't provide width at all. Alexis and Mata are always trying to cut inside, they never try to go all the way down and put the ball in the penalty box. We seriously lack urgency, new manager is needed but some people here are very happy with jose. This is what we going to get as long as he is our manager, its not going to get better. Football has moved on and the new generation of managers see it differently.

Season ends for me today. Not bothered with the fa cup and seems like we might end up getting top 4.
I hope jose gets the sack if we aren't top of the league or not challenging by the end of this year.
All up for giving time to a manager who wants to play with a decent style and win.

With the insane amount of money spent in the past few windows we still look like a club that needs one of its biggest overhaul in terms of players and manager in our history.

Lucky we started the season well beating relegation fodder or we would have been out of the top 4 already.

The best game we played this season was against spurs without kane in a 1-0 win. Apart from that can't find a match in which we actually dominated and won convincingly.

Agree wasnt going to be easy for mourinho to get us to the top but he is a short term fix and with two years already gone can he get us on top next year? Highly doubt it.

Mourinho needs to sort the mess quickly or we should be looking elsewhere with a long term project in mind.

Agree with your post mate. But I would say that the Spurs game was very dicey, Ali missed a sitter moments before we scored.

Our best performance in the league by a mile was the opening game of the season against West Ham. We battered teams that pretty much have all lost their manager, and we only battered them on paper. West Ham we really did batter.

Mourinho is adding to the mess imo, time to make drastic changes or make the same error we did holding onto LVG "wishing" he would get it right.

It's bad making mistakes, what's worse is not correcting them and what is worse than that is not knowing that you are making mistakes. Jose is confused and annoyed, he won't look in the mirror, so time to make that change again. It's bad to keep changing managers if they are doing well, but if they aren't then there is nothing better to correct a massive problem.

The reason i mentioned spurs game is because we played some good football throughout the 90 mins with some fluidity and against a formidable opponent.

I have huge respect for mourinho but he doesn't feel like the right fit for us. His style of play is the complete opposite of what we want our club to play like. It made sense when we appointed him for a short term fix but hanging on to him after this season will be time and money wasted. I think our next appointment is going to be the most important one and we need to get it right.

Our players attitude and performance is starting to the Chelsea side that Jose was on his way to relegating. I imagine our players wouldn't be too upset if he were to go judging by their complete lack of effort. A new manager resets the clock for them to carry on being appalling.

Oh ed01 nice list. You will pi** off a lot of united fans by the pogba selection but i agree with you. You can have all the quality and potential in the world but being an inconsistent central midfielder is just criminal in my eyes. It seems some of the fans want him to be played as a no.10 or an advanced role but i just don't see him as being that creative upfront as well. He has the potential to be a great cm and hope he fulfills it at united.

mumbaianc

{Ed001's Note - I don't get the thinking behind playing him as a 10, he never played that role in Juve. It doesn't really play to his strengths. But then Pogba doesn't really play to his own strengths either, for some reason. If someone could just wake him up and make him see that he is wasting his talent, they would have a great player on their hands.}

can see why youth players struggle under him as he plays a very rigid system with a lot of discipline and less freedom. As for whether he is good at developing youth, we can't say that yet because he has taken over jobs where short term success was important and developing players was not a priority.

Another factor to mourinho's success is being ruthless and buying well established players during a couple of transfer windows. For me he hasn't done that enough at united and is the main reason why we are still struggling under him. If he was ruthless players like martial, pogba, smalling, jones, etc. would have been shipped off by now or in the coming window. But again this kind of ruthlessness works only for the short term which is why he was never the right fit for a club like united.

Agree about sacking him after those post match comments but will still give him the benefit of the doubt as he had nothing else to be positive about.
This game reminded me of last years europa semi finals where we got away with the same approach had it not been for the ex man city striker.

spot on mate. I think we are ok while attacking set pieces but the service has been poor. Same can't be said about defending set pieces and crosses from open play.

Game against huddersfield we were trying to play through the middle and it was clearly not working as we were slow to create anything which gave them time to organise easily ( this has been the case with most teams ) . in the second half as soon as the first cross came in from open play by mata, lukaku scored.

Not against playing through the middle as it now suits most of our players but having a striker like lukaku upfront its shocking we aren't trying to cross more through the wings.
