The Manchester Evening News are this morning reporting that Vidal's agent is in the country to discuss the transfer of his client. They are also reporting that the Matt Hummels transfer is back on if B.Dortmund can secure the services of Tiago Ilori from our good friends at Anfield.
That is quite funny in itself.
The only comment I would make is that you would expect a Manchester paper to be more 'in the know' than the others because, just maybe, they have insider knowledge. let's all wait and see.

red squirell

1.) Watched a documentary about a year ago which said that the MEN had 2 people 'in the know' 5 years ago but due to restrictions, this dropped to one sole reporter 2 years ago.
However, an update on it said that they were now back up to 2 and their bond was 'stronger than ever'.
Still, it's a newspaper who want to make money!

2.) Vidal isn't coming to United!

This has dragged on way too long for Utd to sign him. file this one under the same heading as Sneijder, Benzema, Thiago Alcantara, Fabregas, Ronaldinho!

Utd VERY RARELY sign the world's top stars. (Veron is the last I can think off and look how that turned out).

Utd sign talented players (just below the Galactico level) and they get better at Utd and develop into world beaters (Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy, Rooney, Vidic).

Vidal will stay at Juve this season, claim he never had any intention of joining Utd and that all the speculation was just the work of the media. then he will sign for Real, Barca, Bayern next summer.

At best we will sign a defender (not Hummels) then Van Gaal and Woodward will declare themselves happy with the squad and point to all the money that was spent on Shaw & Herrera as proof of Utd commitment to backing the manager with 'significant transfer funds.'

This happens every summer!

3.) United have made a real effort this year to block any leaks to the English press. This is in an attempt to avoid last summer's farce ever happening again. This is why most UK media outlets are quoting Italian and Chilean press in their Vidal articles, and I doubt the MEN knows anymore than any other UK paper. The days of Fergie speaking to David Meek are well and truly over.

4.) King, isn't RVP a world to star?

5.) Eric, you make some decent points about transfer policy in the last few years. Something is different now though, United are not top dogs! Last season proved that it has been the Fergie factor that has kept the club in the top 4 and something needs to be done about it. United MUST spend this summer because they MUST play champions league football. Without It some of Ed's sponsorship deals will collapse.

6.) And Juan Mata?

7.) I have been told by the same source as told me vidal done that there is only a 1% chance of hummels. Dortmund don't want to sell unless for more money than we willing to pay at moment. Hummels also willing to wait a year to see where everyone stands then. Obviously, money talks, that's why a tiny chance but utd would have to offer a lot more than they are willing to at min which is very unlikely

8.) Mata?

9.) I've been reading the MEN for 30 odd years and I've never known them to know more than any other paper.

Being widely reported in the media this morning that United have agreed to pay the buy out clause for Ander Herrera.
I think we are all aware of him from last years summer window which became a bit of a farce.
Although not a household name (yet) and not an International regular he will be an important part of the new Spanish team.
Probably one of the top 4 players in Europe in his position.

red squirell

1.) Need to see him put pen to paper will be a class signing. Hopefully a fast pace utd next session -

2.) It would be a good signing. Looking at LVG's Dutch team it is based on speed and pressing across the pitch. Our current team would have difficulty playing that way. Incidentally, Depsy looks good too.

3.) Top 4 in his position! Are you crazy?

4.) Charles, name 4 better at doing exactly what Herrera does?

5.) Nice challenge GDS2, I'd say, Yaya Toure, Vidal, Pogba, Strootman, Cabaye, Matic, even Marchisio, Modric, Koke, Gago, Bender .

6.) 24 Jun 2014 11:51:54
What position would he fit into. 6, 8 or another 10?

7.) He would play in the centre of the midfield

8.) Brad76, 8.

mbd, are you serious? You think Matic, Strootman, Cabaye, Gago (lol) & Bender are better than Herrera. Out of the players above I would only take Pogba and Vidal ahead of Herrera. Yaya is quality, but old and he is starting to show his age. Out of the above list only Vidal and Pogba are considerably better and are at a good age like Herrera.

9.) Showing his age!?!?!?
he was 3rd top scorer last season and in a lot of peoples mind (including mine) he was player of the season.
20 goals last year for his age and position. not bad for a 31 year old

10.) 24 Jun 2014 13:20:11
Sydney, thanks for the update on positions.
I assume then if we do actually get him all the talk of Vidal and the like will stop as we will then just need to address the number 6 role.
I say that in the belief we wI'll go 433 and not 352 (misguided maybe)

11.) 24 Jun 2014 13:23:37
Syd,

So if no Spannish players are better than him in that position why was he nowhere near getting in the squad to go to the team, let alone the first 11?

12.) Mel, absolutely, he was outstanding last season. But if you watch the international games, he looks like he's struggling. I wonder if last season was the best season he will have for City and that it's taken a lot out of him. At 31 and the size he is, it's going to come to a halt very soon. You cannot overcome nature. If you watch him in games against quick midfielders, they do run rings around him. He's in his prime when it comes to free-kicks, shooting etc, but his body does look as though he's slowing up. Still a top notch player mind, but for how much longer?

13.) Top four my hoop! He certainly has the potential to, but he's not anywhere near that level yet. Let's wait and see if we get him before we start worshiping the ground he walks on

14.) Syd a lot of the poor form over the WC could be to do with his brother dying

15.) TOT66, I was using the selection of players that was given to me. And you can guarantee that Herrera, Thiago and Koke will be occupying the midfield for the NEW Spanish era. We would be buying him at the right time.

16.) Syd, I ain't saying he isn't quality and I think he would be a good buy but I certainly won't put him before those I mentioned. Cabaye has been great for France in this WC so far. Yaya may be old but since we are talking of the best MF players, he def deserves to be ahead of Herrera. And I didn't want to mention Carvahlo because I haven't watched enough of him, but from the little I have seen . U get my point.

17.) Nonsense, I can't even believe people are saying he's such an amazing player, Ramsey is better, wilshire is better, fabregas is better, hazard is better (he plays the no.10 role aswell) fernandinho is better, vidal and pogba aren't even in the equation as they go without saying, jordan henderson is just as good! He hasn't even got a game for the spanish side and he's 24!

18.) Mbd, Herrera gets around the pitch. He doesn't stop running, he tackles, he attacks, he bursts forward, he can shoot, great passer. An energetic B2B is exactly what we are missing. Other than Vidal I wouldn't say the rest are as energetic as Herrera. At what he does specifically, I would definitely say he's in my top five.

19.) A lot of nonsense comments on here. Herrera is a playmaker, literally the linchpin of the Bilbao team last year. Yaya, Carvalho, Ramsey, Hazard, Pogba, Henderson, even fabregas are totally different players and shouldn't come into the equation. IMO he is a great signing who will improve even more and will control our attacking play for years to come.

20.) Charlesdance, are you a bitter Liverpool fan or a bitter Arsenal fan?

21.) Haha bitter? This just makes me laugh, I can't believe this site every time a player is linked, they are suddenly the best player to walk the earth, he's a decent player but have a bit of cop on. he's not going to be groundbreaking by any means. And why didn't u mention man city or chelsea in that?

22.) Charles, check my post from June 8th. Long before this Herrera stuff broke. Herrera is a good player.

23.) I mentioned a rumor I'd heard that we were after him a year ago, well before papers et. Picked up on it, and as I recall, She was one of the first to say he'd be a good signing, so he's not getting caught up in hype or anything.

I also think he'd be almost the perfect signing.

He isn't the typical playmaker a lot of people think of him as, he's part playmaker, part box-to-box.

Not the most flattering comparison, but he reminds me of Anderson's better games in his first couple of years with us.

Also, perhaps a bit like Wilshere but with more energy, runs round defenders instead of into them and a little more cleverness in his passing.

Wilshere has potential to be better, but he won't fulfill it unless he sorts out his injuries.

24.) Wilshire is shocking! I'd be worried if he was rated alongside or above anyone! He cannot pass the ball forward at all. He is another version of cleverly, just gets sent off more
Reminds me of a younger cesc when he played purely central midfield

Just been announced that Thomas Vermaelen has agreed to join Man Utd.
One down and? players still to arrive.

red squirell

1.) Why am I getting a similar feeling to the one I got when I first heard we'd signed Ashley Young?

28 May 2014 09:45:03
. Apparently United have agreed to buy Central Defender Miranda from Athletico Madrid. He was the stand out defender in the semis and the final for Athletico. let's hope this is the start of the summer transfer dealings.

red squirell

1.) 28 May 2014 10:12:18
Just saw this in the Spanish press, same place as the Mata to Barca rumours were started though, so I'm not sure how reliable that would be.

2.) Knowing Mr Woodward I bet we sign Miranda Hart.

3.) It's no doubt BS can you see Woodward moving that quick?

4.) Godin was the standout defender

OK. let's go through todays transfer speculation. Marquinhos and Felipe Anderson are done deals. Aubemeyang is coming because he missed a training session. We are bidding for Bale and Giggsy will make sure the deal goes through in January. Fellaini is going to one of the many Italian clubs who rate him because they will give him the playing time he needs for this summer. The list is endless and is good material for a comedy. The reality of it all is the only change in this window has already happened and that is the return of Will Keane from his loan spell. Sorry for the bad news.

red squirell

1.) 06 Jan 2016 12:01:18
Agree red Suirrel the list is endless!

IMO- Anderson is an expensive risk, Aubemeyang a much more expensive risk with an allegedly shitty attitude and marquinos is still a raw talent and at the 36m quoted another expensive risk.

FEllaini has tried and not his fault, it hasn't quite worked so would be beneficial to him (and probably the wage bill) to let him go if an offer comes in.
What is a worrying trend is buying players at over the top prices and then having to/ being prepared to take a loss after 1/ 2 years as they aren't right! Di Maria, Falcao loan,
now mutings of rojo, fellaini and mata in the summer?
I know man utd have a lucrative portfolio of sponsors and revenue sources but rash spending cannot go on forever.
Some will say we have lost in the past on veron, anderson etc but it wasnt always at the same time or financial period; just hoping for a little caution and worry about the structure that supposedly works to get it right.
One thing SAF did well was to take several players in at relatively short prices and turn them/ evolve into players worth much more either to the club or when they moved on.

2.) 06 Jan 2016 13:14:07
This is the problem of having suits with little to none football knowledge in charge trying to do a Madrid and sign expensive players

This is why need to overhaul the scouting system and the academy structure and build from there.

3.) 06 Jan 2016 22:20:23
Cook man for every player you can name that sir Alex bought and sold at a profit I'll give you 2 names he bought that weer sold at a loss. Anderson nani kleberson djemba bellion etc etc etc.

Interesting comments from Edwin Van Der Sar this morning that 'Daley Blind will not be joining Man Utd this summer'.
Could be a bluff of course but with Vidal not coming (he never was anyway) the comments made by LVG that he will have a new United on Monday with a new group of players make interesting reading.
Just who will these players be. This could be one of the great transfer windows.
Come on United.

red squirell

1.) Dont be surprised to see schweinsteiger here soon

28 Aug 2014 07:39:05
With Danny Welbeck seemingly heading for the exit door this must give United some bargaining power.
Spurs seem interested and they have Jan Vertonghen playing for them. We need an experienced CB and he would fit the bill.
And he can also play LB if required. Its strange how suddenly every player seems to be left sided.
Its unlikely because Spurs are a team that will be looking for Champions League qualification but it would fill a position that we badly need, probably without any cash being exchanged.
Also the Rojo situation seems to be dragging on now.
Apparently the deal has not been signed off by the FA yet because of the 3rd party involvement in his transfer. If not done by lunch time on Friday he will miss the Burnley game.

Here is some .
Angel di Maria has asked to leave Real Madrid.
Now this could be interesting!

I am pleased to read this morning that Man Utd have denied making any bids for Muller and Reus.
It has also been stated by Juventus that no negotiations and have taken place for Vidal from United. Earlier in the transfer window we had all the crap about Uniteds interest in Cavani. And there are many more that I cannot be bothered to list including almost the entire Dutch World Cup Squad.

So as we approach the last week of the transfer window it is now becoming clear that the press really do not have any idea at all of the United transfer targets. Even yesterday Sky Sports were reporting that United had no outstanding bids for any player. They just do not know so they fill their pages with rubbish about players turning us down that United never ever wanted. Because, let's be honest, they are enjoying this period when Uniteds dominance is being threatened & questioned. Every report is a put down.

So let's enjoy the final 10 days of the transfer window and see what exciting presents (players) sign for us in this remaining period.

Its a bit like an early Christmas when you think about it. Haha.

I think, Sydney, that Chelsea need to loose one foreign player so its probably not them.
Could be Real Madrid if they manage to get PSG to buy Di Marie.

This could be paper talk but he would solve one of the centre back positions.
Interesting that it says that United do not want to pay the full amount up front because you get the feeling that this is the way thay Woodward does his negotiating.

Fellaini is returning to pre season training today. This means that LVG has had no chance to see him perform. I would suggest that this is another media fairy tale. Fellaini will be given a chance to show his worth ( or not ).

I honestly do not believe that Vidal is coming to United. I have read all the papers and rumour sites ( like most of us do ) and it is all too contradictory. LVG has stated that he still needs defenders and that is all that we can believe at the moment. An experienced CB plus cover for Shaw and cover or replacement for Raphael. As for the midfield then I think he wants Strootman and will wait until he gets some games under his belt before making a bid. If LVG feels he cannot take the risk in this window then it will be De Jong or De Rossi.

I am actually starting to believe that Woodward is frightened to hire a new manager. By waiting and waiting to finally get rid of LVG he probably hopes that Mourinho takes up the offer of another club.
There is no logical reason to stick with LVG now. We are in a nose dive and he cannot pull us out of it. Yes there are loads of injuries but because he likes to manage small squads he never brought in the defenders and forwards that even a blind man could see were needed. He is a man that is living on past glories and he still believes that his management methods of the past will work today. He can see no wrong in what he does and he needs to go TODAY.

Yes I would go along with all of the above. After two failed appointments I do not think he can risk another so it has to be someone who is a premiership winner and that is Jose. He will ruffle Ciy's feathers. Unfortunately it can only happen when it is mathematically impossible to get 4th place so could be a while yet. If we do get a position in the top 4 then it should still be Jose and if we end up missing out on him then questions need to be asked, Big Time.

United do seem to be 'stuck in a moment'so to speak. A lot of inactivity with regards to the manager, transfers etc. There seems to be an intention to hire a Director of Football but that is more of a mid to long term solution.
Ed Woodward does have a team under him but from the outside looking in maybe it would be better if he just concentrated on the commercial side of things.

I would love to see Blind in midfield and when we talk about a partner for Smalling we never mention Jones any more because of his injuries. A big mistake was letting Evans go but its happened so we have to get on with it. Really need a top class centre half.
Quite frankly the best position for Fellaini is with another club.

So LVG has now publicly stated that he is trying to acquire a fullback in this window, and with 10 days to go its looking difficult. We have needed a fullback since day 1 of this window, 22 days ago, so I will not be holding my breath on that transfer being successful.
But a couple of things spring to mind. The first is the players he has released in positions that we have struggled to fill with injuries eg. Rafael. Secondly the number of players that he plays out of position. eg. Mata, Martial, Fellaini, Blind (would love to see him in midfield), Valencia, Young etc. Probably in any match that United have played probably has half the team out of position. Is it any wonder we never play well. Hopefully he will go at the end of the season.
