Hi Ed002,
I was skimming through the Liverpool site and saw that you mentioned Bayern is miffed at Gravenberch and would listen to offers; and I recall you indicating on our site that MUFC retained and interest and that RG preferred option would be MUFC (presumably to work with ETH again) .

Given the change in BM's position on RG, do you think MU will push for RG, or is he fairly down the list of preferred targets?

Cheers and thanks (to you and the other Eds) for running the sites!

{Ed002's Note - Maybe.}

Hi Eds,
It was mentioned a few months back that LVG had upset a few people within the club and that it was possible that he would be moved on at the end of the season. i was wondering if this was still the case, and if so, what other managers the club are considering.
Cheers!

tombomb

{Ed004's Note - He will be staying. The signing of Depay all but confirms it}

Ed,

I saw you mention on another page that AM are wary of losing Koke this summer. If you don't mind, could you share who has interest/where he is most likely to move to?

Thanks!

tombomb

{Ed002's Note - There is interest from Chelsea and I am really not keen on answering "most likely" questions.

Hi Eds just have a quick question. I read on the Arsenal page that Arsenal have met Barca's valuation of Sanchez and can now speak with the player. Have Manchester United also matched the valuation for the player, or does our interest lie elsewhere? Thanks for your input!

tombomb

{Ed002's Note - No, but Barcelona are soliciting bids and within the past hour has approached another side. Juve are interested but money is a problem.}

1.) 07 Jul 2014 19:26:27
Any idea who that club is Ed?

Cheers!

{Ed002's Note - Sure but it doesn't matter.}

2.) 07 Jul 2014 21:12:35
Ed002 does Juve need to sell before they can buy. i.e? Vidal?
Thanks

{Ed002's Note - Done to death.}

3.) I'm guessing it's City ed? Hoping it may be us though, maybe just maybe

4.) 07 Jul 2014 21:51:38
Ed002 in your opinion would now be a good time for united to make there move for vidal with hope juve would be more willing to do a deal in order to be able to pursue sanchez?
Thanks as always :)

{Ed002's Note - Now would be a good time to pop along with an offer.}

Haven’t seen much of Ed001 on here lately (unfortunately), but was hoping to get your thoughts on the united at the minute. In particular who you think would be the best managerial appointment - both the best possible alternative and the best of the “likely” options.

Any insight into the Fletcher appointment as interim. He seemed unqualified for his technical director role (and the clubs performances have continued to be very poor and even gotten worse since his appointment) - his potential appointment as interim manager does not fill me with confidence (same feelings towards carrick) .

Thanks for the time Ed and hope your pop on more often! Cheers!

tombomb

{Ed001's Note - hi tom, thank you. What would be best would be getting rid of the likes of Fletcher, Carrick, Phelan etc, all the hangovers from the old regime, move Ferguson probably out the door, and making a fresh start with someone like Rangnick. In fact Rangnick would be the one I would go for as the technical director/sporting director etc. Then you let him sort the rest. But you need to get the Ferguson era out of the club as his presence is doing exactly the same as Busby's did. He still has too much power and his word carries weight, which is why Ole survived to this point. If you can't get Ferguson's power gone, you can't move forward into the modern era.}

1.) 21 Nov 2021 06:38:43
Ed001, looks like a lot of work to do and it's a safe bet it's not happening with Glazers as owners.

{Ed001's Note - probably not as they owe Ferguson, he opened the door for their takeover and brought them in. You have seen with the way they treat Ed Woodward that they look after those that help them.}

2.) 21 Nov 2021 06:52:56
Ed001, scratching each other's backs while the fans are left scratching their heads ?.

{Ed001's Note - spot on. It is the way the world works though, people get jobs for the wrong reasons as it is not a meritocracy.}

3.) 21 Nov 2021 06:56:40
Ed001, you're probably right but are you surprised how a big club like United with a huge global presence is being run so badly?

{Ed001's Note - not in the slightest as the board are utterly clueless about the game and do not have the right people in their ear advising them. They should have brought in outside advisors with no connection to the club but that know the game. Remove sentiment when the transition from Ferguson came along, then there would have been a chance to get it right. There is still time for them to realise it is time to look elsewhere for their football advice, but it is difficult for them. Ferguson achieved so much and is such a legend around the club, pushing him aside when you are extremely unpopular would cause pandemonium in the fanbase. And that is the problem, they are not strong enough to take on the fans and follow the path they believe in, which showed when they bottled out of the Allegri appointment.}

4.) 21 Nov 2021 09:20:35
Full agree with the Ed, need a full reboot to get rid of the stink in the place (which Ole was a part of but not the only reason) otherwise any replacement is on a hiding to nothing.

Even with Ole gone I fear we are stuck in mediocrity for a few years yet, unless some drastic changes happen.

I try not to get drawn into championing fashionable names I don’t know much about, so had a quick read about Rangnick and he has a very extensive record and reputation. Seems the sort of football guy that can coach as well as plan from upstairs.

If the club has learned anything, we need qualified people, not just big names and especially not anyone linked to the Fergie era (inc the man himself) .

Question for Ed001 and 002 in particular, but would like other poster's opinions as well.

The monies that Ed002 has mentioned are associated with the Sancho transfer are astronomical, and in the last 1 or 2 years the only transfer fee (ignoring agents) that I can think comes close to it for a teenager is the Joao Felix transfer. In terms of current ability and future prospects how do you feel Sancho compares as a player to JF?

The longer the saga drags out I can't help but think spending money on someone else (Chiesa? ) and funding other areas of the team (CB after moving on rojo/ jones/ smalling, CM/ AM) would be a better allocation of funds.

Cheers and thanks for the responses!

tombomb

{Ed002's Note - Felix has struggled this season - next will be a better guide.}

1.) 14 Aug 2020 17:47:27
I think Joao Felix had a huge step up from Liga Nos to La Liga, while the style of play Benfica and Atletico Madrid are chalk and cheese.

Personally I think he moved a year too soon, and should have stayed in Portugal and consolidate himself after a great breakout season.

Hopefully he kicks on next season. Its difficult to say who has more potential or is the greater player. Both are hugely talented and have the potential to be future Balon d'Or winners.

But the road from huge talent to actual world class star is a bumpy and often unpredictable one. I would say for every 10 players dubbed as future megastars only one or two actually make it.

2.) 15 Aug 2020 09:09:59
At Benfica he was there golden boy, I was fortunate enough to see the title parade last season just after I moved there. The fans adored him. The Spanish league is different the fans are more fickle than the premier league and that’s saying something. Quality player but for once I agree with shappy he moved too soon. And the setup at Atletico would be hard for any young player to adapt to, especially in a new league.

Ed001, following up on yesterday’s post about the quality of poch’s signings, I was hoping to get your opinion on which managers you think would be good appointments by the club, and why.

Apologies if you have answered this one already.

Thanks!

tombomb

{Ed001's Note - it is difficult to be sure, but the ones I would suggest looking to are people like Osorio, Setien, Marcelino, Favre or Nagelsmann. Maybe even Pablo Machin. Someone who plays good football, as the fans need to be excited by what they are seeing at United. There are very few in and around the top flight in England that are worth considering and I don't think the backing would be there to take a chance on someone like the Cowley brothers. It would be better to stick with Ole if you are going to just take a wild punt, imo.}

1.) 19 Jan 2019 07:45:23
I would have loved to see Nagelsmann as I myself enjoy whatever little I see of Hoffenheim. He plays "good" football but more importantly is side play as a cohesive unit but unfortunately that ship has sailed for now. Also I think it might have been a year or 2 too soon for him.

2.) 19 Jan 2019 12:01:08
Seeing as you have namedropped them Ed what's your opinion on the Cowley brothers i live local to Lincoln and there rise under the Cowleys is nothing short of impressive but they would never enter my mind when it comes to a premier league job never mind United.

{Ed001's Note - excellent mate but they need to step up now and prove themselves at the next level.}

3.) 19 Jan 2019 12:39:35
I think we need to take a punt. We've tried established names that turned out to be yesterdays men. Take a chance and find the next big thing. The structure of the club needs sorting out more importantly.

4.) 19 Jan 2019 22:02:12
Do you mean someone like OGS?

15 Feb 2016 01:22:07
The whole first half of the season was GDS2 v. Beast on here. It's starting to look like the second half will be jred v. Shappy lol.

tombomb

{Ed007's Note - Oh God! It'll be like watching Chistopher Biggins against Dale Winton.}

1.) 15 Feb 2016 01:52:38
ouch, biggins and winton.

{Ed007's Note - I thought referencing Oliver Reed and Alan Bates from Women in Love would be a bit highbrow for on here.}

2.) 15 Feb 2016 01:53:13
Jred has always needed someone to bounce off of, and was at a loss after Sydney stopped posting on a regular basis. And as for me? I'm the middle son of 5 boys, I was weaned on teasing and arguements.

Batman needs the Joker. Lol.

Btw dibs on being Biggins. Lol.

{Ed007's Note - That choice explains a lot about you Shapps.....

3.) 15 Feb 2016 11:10:15
A noble spirit embiggins the smallest Shappy.

4.) 15 Feb 2016 12:29:57
Beast,

We are going to need to have a huge argument mate, we have been usurped by Elton and David.

5.) 15 Feb 2016 14:01:43
I feel ashamed, what has happened to us GDS2?

Get back to championing the mad man and we can return to our former glory. I feel all my fury has dissipated recently as most of us can all see the fiasco for what it is and it's kind of preaching to the converted.

6.) 15 Feb 2016 14:47:25
Beast,

I think that is the problem, we have come more into line, I think we have all decided this is the end for LVG, it is not going to get better and until he goes there is no point in even hoping it will.

I will support the team in every game and will never write them off in a match, but United under LVG is finished, and I am already looking forward to August.

7.) 16 Feb 2016 10:11:56
The fans have given up, and LVG showing signs of defeat now, I'm frustrated because this isn't the United we use to, however we have to stick by the club, we can't give up because we struggling, it's not the United way

However if we getting Mourinho now, I would just do it now then at least he has 3-4 months to evaluate the team and get a Champions League spot.

Ed001,
I enjoy reading your views on players/managers/football in general and washoping, whne youhave the time, if you could provide your opinion on our season, tactics, the manager, and who you think we should be targeting in the market this summer.

Thanks mate - hope you're settling well after your move.

tombomb

{Ed001's Note - I have done that, bit rushed as the sites are really hectic at this time of year, I will stick it on the others page as it is a bit lengthy!

Thanks, settling in ok, just trying to get used to living 23 stories up when I am terrified of heights! Vertigo and living right near the top of a tower are not a good mix. Though living next door to a bunch of cute, young, single women is a bonus, though not sure my missus agrees on that point.....}

1.) 05 Jun 2015 21:25:23
Vertigo is a terrible affliction, I think lfc suffer from it too. sorry ed couldn't resist😉 hope you settle in well.

2.) 05 Jun 2015 22:06:37
A good read that ed and a pretty fair assessment IMO . Do you think thar a cm now appears to be a priority for this window due to Carrick's age and injury worries? As you say he plays his role to a very high level.
Also it is looking increasingly likely that ddg will leave do you think we could or indeed would like to sign cech ?
Finally I would like your opinion on who you think would. Be good long term solution at cb?

Cheers Ed - thanks for the update on potential managers!

Out of the list above:
-Who do you think would be the top 2 or 3 options for MUFC and working with Ashworth?

-Who is looking like the most likely appointment (perhaps there is still too long to go to have frontrunner at the minute) .

No worries if you don't want to get into it further.

Thanks and appreciate you and the other Eds continued contributions!

tombomb

{Ed002's Note - I suspect Potter might be the most likely.}

Hi Ed - you mentioned that the agent fees for the Haaland transfer to MU would have been pretty extreme. Can you provide any insight as to why the agent fees for a MU move would be higher relative to the other interested parties?
Thanks and happy new year!

tombomb

{Ed002's Note - It is really not something worth getting in to.}

Didn't think we would have to pay Roma so little to convince them to take him on permanently.

Ed001,you mentioned about 2 or 3 weeks back that we had interest in lewandowski, but had probably put in on back burner while we explored a deal foe zlatan. Have we still got btw rest in RL or have we moved on completely from him? I think zlatan is a wonderful player but fear that between sweinsteigger Carrick and ageing Rooney we are just setting ourselves up for another major squad overhaul in two years time. Thanks for your time Ed!

tombomb

{Ed001's Note - the interest is still there, but you have a lot to buy and even United have FFP constrictions that stop them just paying what is needed. Which is why a deal for Otamendi has been a problem, you simply can't meet the asking price and pay out for a forward too, just yet anyway.}

Yes evans was obstructed but he needs to do betters to fight through it…. or the buffoon next to him could move and close down rice rather than just stand in place shouting with his hand up.

Maguire is an embarrassment. Martinez Injury happens and we need to completely change how we play since he is incapable of passing out of defence.

When the same poor decisions from the manager are the rule and not the exception to the rule, you have to question scratch your head and say “he any good”. It’s odd that your sarcasm about Fred isn’t far from true. We know what Fred is likely to serve up week after week, yet continue to roll him out and then ole compounds the situation by pairing him with the defensively poor pogba.

Do you think if ole was the manager of any of the last ten premier league title winning squads would that team still have won the league? Based on what we see week after week I feel confident in saying no - and to me that’s a massive problem and will continue to hold the club back. He has plenty of time like his buddies and apologists have asked, and still no actual progress in his ability to organize a team and impact a game.

Yes how can you blame the manager for setting up his team poorly, not adjusting his tactics, picking the wrong team, having zero impact after halftime. Guess that’s all Fred’s doing?
