Guys just sharing my thoughts.

What if we had promoted from within like. liverpool in the 70s and 80s.

What if Carlos Q was given the promise to take over the rein from Sir alex. I get the feeling from reading excerpts that little to no effort was made to sway Carlos mind from leaving in 08.

The board should have planned. By o8 Sir was in his mid 60s.

Would we be in a better position if Carlos had taken over in 2013 after close to 9 season as an asst where in e layer yrs he could have significant say in transfer dealings, playing philosophy, youth set up, coaching team.

Nothing he has done since leaving us suggests that he is anywhere near capable of being a successful football manager.

2.) 24 May 2018 13:58:34
Replacing Fergy was always going to an impossible task imo .
We were always going to take a hit .
In the 5 season since he has left we have won 3 cups and just finished second in the league .
So maybe it's not been as bad as some make out, a lot of fans will of only gone through the fergy years it's not always like that tho.

3.) 24 May 2018 17:01:49
Spot on jred. The top table of football clubs has gotten bigger and there are only few trophies to win every year. Going through a tough couple of years and a big squad upheaval, we've done OK in terms of winning cups.

Opposition fans were predicting decades of turmoil after Sir Alex left. It hasn't been the case. It certainly hasn't been smooth but we're on the up and up, it's just a shame some fans would rather us implode just so they could say I told you so!

4.) 24 May 2018 18:23:05
It would not have been impossible if planned properly and brought in the right level of manager.

5.) 24 May 2018 19:08:30
Good point jred just shows how spoilt we all can be.

I posted the other day after the cup final, I re-read it and instantly felt like a spoilt Petulant child.

I suppose emotions can get the better of you sometimes.

Think significant mistakes were committed 09-13.

1. Investments were not at Citys level. Tevez, Ronaldo left and our signings post that read Obertan, valencia ( not a world beater but a consistent performer), a past it owen, Powell, Bebe

City were raiding balotelli, silva, toure, Aguero, De jong.

We needed to fix the central midfield and wing position. We failed. We needed at least one ready made world class centre back to take over rio and vida, we kept our faith in Smalling and jones. Dissapoitment.

2. The appointment of Moyes.
After Sir alex stepped down we should have appointed A manager with much stronger credentials . Jose would have made sense then. 2013-2014 season ripped the soul of the club. It set a precedence. The fear factor slowly diminished.

3. Van gaal was stop gap. I still think he should have tried his best to keep the likes of Welbz, Rafael, Chicarito, Evans who. could be useful squad players.
During sir alex tenure we had park, o shea, fletch who played the role.

My point is the problem started way back with no clear long term plan who should replace Sir Alex and little investment pre. 2013.

Should we now call for Jose to be sack?

If he goes who takes over? Giggsy?
Blanc? Carlos Quiroz? Poch?

My personal view would be back him for 2 more seasons with transfers in out. Let him do his job. by then he would have 4 seasons.

Would love to hear other reds opinion.

Good post mate. Agree with the lack of investment over the years I remember us crying out for a midfielder in fergie’s era with Dembele being someone we should have snapped up when he left Fulham. We were linked to the likes of defour, strootman and others but never sorted out the midfield. Shows how sir alex did such an incredible job of winning the league with a poor team.

Moyes was a disaster plain and simple. Should never ever have been considered and him sacking the back room staff sealed his fate. He undid 25 years of work in the space of 7 months. Awful awful appointment which set us back years. Then LVG was in theory a safe appointment but didn’t pan out well. We have thrown money at clubs by overpaying for average players who don’t have the mentality to play for us. There has been no plan or cohesion in the transfer policy. No direction in where the club needs to be. We have Woodward who although is a great negotiator, seems to be the sort of person who wants to make a statement signing which sells shirts instead of one that improves the team.

Now we appoint Jose. Personally he should have been considered after sir alex left. Would have been the perfect time. He is a great manager, one of the best, but that does not necessarily translate to a successful or appropriate fit for us and him. An air of marriage of convenience is evident. However, all things said and done, the improvement statistically is plain to see. He’s attracting quality players and we are back in the champions league for a second season in a row for the first time in years. Style is very poor and his man management is not working with certain players. He needs to improve there. But he deserves another year to sustain a challenge and if it is going poorly then he should leave. I don’t buy into the notion he will leave a mess at united. He inherited a huge mess but he will leave a very talented squad for the next manager to enjoy the fruition. Back him for another year but plan accordingly.

The board need to take a leaf out of arsenal’s Book and admire the way they have stuck to their values and traditions as a football club. They play a beautiful brand of football and have appointed a manager who will carry this on. United must respect our traditions and it should dictate how we run the club and who we appoint. If the board can do that then I feel things will improve. Personally I am looking forward to next season and I expect to see improvements.

Roses

Am guessing you are new so welcome. I recognise and and have flagged those very issues time and time again so agree with you.

However you will now be answered with the can’t blame that, blame Jose he spent money argument. Enjoy and stick to what you said because it is where we are.

I would give Jose next season and see where we are.

3.) 24 May 2018 13:12:03
I still say the best thing we could do is bring in a DoF.

4.) 24 May 2018 13:20:43
Hi red. man. I am from. Singapore. Started. supprting united in 85.whiteside moran final. Never been to old trafford but watched the reds here in Singapore in 2001 with ruud veron in e team. got interviewed by mutv. good day all around.

I'm OK with smalling and Jones being expected to be our long term centre backs. We bought them at 19 and 20 yrs old (ish) and they were supposed to be our centre back partnership for years to come. I like the idea of buying to young kids full of potential and nurturing them together to be the spine of our club for the next decade. Sadly, it hasn't worked out. But I'm OK that we gave it a good shot.

If Jose signs an extension, what would be the sentiments here?

I would want stability hence i am all for it.
Jose"s pragmatism in some away games aside against the top teams vying for champions league spot aside, Jose's track record, cv and name would more than likely bring titles, trophies and big signings.

If he is here for the long haul i hope he will bring in more of the academy players and gives them more opportunities.

Bringing in Carrick into the coaching set up seems a good move.

Thoughts guys?

1.) 23 Jan 2018 04:26:30
I hope he extends because I honestly don’t see any superstar or potential superstar managers to replace him at the moment. As frustrating as he can be at times with his style of play, we have improved under him, have improved the overall talent level while bringing through youth and lowering the squad age overall. Also, remember when we had to go above and beyond in crazy ways to try and sign big players under moyes and lvg, under Jose big players want to come to rainy Manchester. That’s a huge power to have. I think given a long run at the club he’ll
Continue to move his playing style towards the attacking tradition of the the club, finding a balance that entertains and gets results. Again, he still costs us points settling for draws, but that’s why he wins knockout tournaments like the CL, he just doesn’t lose. But I think he’s matured (ignoring the Conte nonsense) as a manager and won’t have the eventual blowup that was his calling card. City have thrown the season on its head, but we’re through the CL and doing well in the league relatively speaking. If I have to put my money on the table i'd much rather put it on Jose in years 3-5 than some random new manager in seasons 1-3.

2.) 23 Jan 2018 10:25:04
Great post KG agree with all of that. We couldn’t attract any top players under LVG and Moyes but under Jose we have signed some massive players. Granted we have thrown a lot of money but players want to see potential and a chance to win trophies and we must be a very attractive proposition at the moment for a lot of players. I can see Jose staying for another 2-3 years after his contract and then I think we have a succession plan in place. Never know Carrick could be our next manager 😂😉. Imagine that.

Guys wats your top 3 favourite united season.

Mine would be

1. 95 96 the emergence of e class of 92 helped in the start of Fergies empire though he had won e league twice before.

2. 98 99 No reason needed. Name on the trophy. still tear up thinking

3. 07 08 Cristianos brilliance, Hargreaves free kick vs Arsenal, Nanis thunderbolt vs Spurs, scholesy goal vs Barca, . Terrys miss!

united roses

1.) 22 Jan 2018 12:59:32
92/ 93 and that league title after such a wait.

98/ 99 again obvious.

07/ 08 again obvious.

2.) 22 Jan 2018 13:01:17
92-93, first title in 26 years.
93-94, first double and showed it wasn’t a fluke.
98-99,stunning football, a fairytale season, an incredible treble

It’s easy to forget how good that first team was, especially when we added Keane. Pace power, finesse, up for a fight, up for the beautiful game. Cantona pulling the strings, Hughes still on fire, they were a joy to behold

And the ‘99 team operated on the basis of you score 3, we’ll score 4. The FA Cup semi final was immense, a man down, facing a penalty in the last minute yet we still won. And Keane’s leadership when he knew he would miss the Champions League final was incredible.

3.) 22 Jan 2018 14:00:21
85 Whiteside fa cup goal
93 title
99 treble.

4.) 22 Jan 2018 14:38:41

The moyes effect set us back. think most fans would not underestimate how damaging shorterm and long term that appointment had on us.

Thought the 2014- 2016 purchases were a bit scatter gun with Falcao ( we had 4 strikers so no need for him), Di Maria ( heart was not in it), Schneiderlin ( decent squad player but we needed more in midfield, Bastian (unfit) .

Glad that up to now Bailly, Matic, Pogba, Lukaku, Lindelof have been good. not great as yet but getting there in terms of individual performances.

So Sanchez purchase is more than welcomed and adds that touch of world class into the forward line.

Think we all can agree that in some games a midfield 3 is needed. Herreras declining form in 2017, Carricks retiring and fellaini apparent contract stand off makes signing 1 or 2central midfield a priority.

If we go big then it has to be Dybala. Vidal on his last leg. If signed Vidal then his role would be as cover to matic and playing the odd 15-20 games mostly cup and from the bench. wouldn't think it would appeal to him.
