Ed002, Just wondering if the recent media reports of United having an interest in Issa Diop has any substance or if it's just media fantasy?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - West Ham implied there has been some interest.}

17 Jun 2019 20:19:03
Ed, has anything changed on the CB interest front aside from this?
Are the club in contact with any clubs regarding specific players?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - The club will have been talking to agents and to some clubs. If they persist with Diop them I think you can scratch KK from the list. And I gave an update recently.}

17 Jun 2019 13:50:38
Any word on the Bruno Fernandes transfer? It has gone very quiet.

At least the Wan Bissaka updates remain positive.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

I'm fairly confident we're getting him, everything has pointed to us signing him, even if it'll be a big fee.

Good timing too as it will soften the blow of the potential departure of Pogba.

Pogba needs to go. He wants to leave. I only players at the club who want to play for the club.

Wouldn't say it's good news on awb. Another bid rejected. Can't see utd paying what palace want upfront.

Agree0 0Disagree

17 Jun 2019 18:12:07
The differences between Palace and Utd on the AWB deal appear mainly to be around the initial payment and then the basis of the staged payments.
It doesn’t sound like a deal can’t be done, Utd need to offer more up front plus change the details around the performance based payments. At the end of the day £50 to 60M for AWB is reasonable on the basis he is 21 and proven in the PL. In 5 years time if he is still at the club this would look like good business.

Agree0 0Disagree

17 Jun 2019 19:57:10
Doubt we will go again prob go for the Norwich guy now.

Can see this being a sham of a window and another season of dross.

Agree0 0Disagree

17 Jun 2019 20:03:06
I think AWB will be the second signing. A lot of talk about Pogba, he stays - good, he leaves - I think we have planty of options in the market. But what about Lukaku, we can't rely on Rashford only, plus I think he is better on the wing. So if Lukaku leaves, I really don't see any available striker, maybe Cavanni. But that's it.

14 Jun 2019 17:58:40
Really hope city buy maguire and we go elsewhere.

Half decent on the ball and good in tbe air and that's it.

He loses possesion a lot, lacks pace, tactical awareness isn't the best.

For me not much better than Smalling and certainly not worth anywhere near the 80mil quoted. I don't see what people obsession with him is.

If can't get Koulibaly or De Ligt id go for Dias.

Theres better defenders out there that would improve us more that Maguire.

Believable36 6Unbelievable

14 Jun 2019 18:21:22
The fact that's he's half decent on the ball means he is much better than smalling.

Gareth Southgate is probably one of the most timid men in football but he was pretty ruthless and scathing in his criticism of smallings weaknesses.

Your centre backs have to be good on the ball if you want to suceed as a top team as you will have the majority of possession in most games.

Not sure how this will effect transfer in the future.
What do you think Ed's?

Will brexit effect transfer of players?

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - depends on the terms of it. Nobody can say what will happen as no one knows.}

14 Jun 2019 18:54:32
I've said on here a few times that I'm really against the signing of Maguire. He's very good in both boxes at set pieces and is good enough on the ball but not much else in my opinion. The media have built him up as this fantastic defender off the back of a world cup where England didn't beat anyone of genuine quality despite getting to the semis and he played in a back 3 which helped cover some of his deficiencies.

The best sides would target him as he cannot deal with any type of quick movement around him. Coming out from the back with the ball is fine but the more I see of Maguire, the more I am convinced he is absolutely aimless when he runs with the ball and has no clue what his next pass will be.

Agree14 3Disagree

14 Jun 2019 19:27:24
I rate Maguire and think he has the attitude to make I at United. Hungry, hard working and talented.

Agree4 17Disagree

14 Jun 2019 20:39:03
I know stats don't mean much but, Smalling per 90 min has better stats than VVD and Maguire. (i think)

For me Maguire loses ball too much and ends up out of position creating space for openents.

Rather have players out the italian league over Maguire. Players like Milenkovic, De Vrij and Manalos to name a few.

Whats with the buzz on Maguire? Like yeah decent on ball (but loses it a lot and ends up out of position) good in tbe air but everything thing else average. Rather keep smalling than spend 70+ mil on a over hyped player that's not going to massively improve us.

Go all out for Koulibaly or De Ligt or even Dias who i think would flourish.

Agree6 3Disagree

14 Jun 2019 20:59:17
Well, supposedly it’s a tussle between Pep and Ole for Maguire’s signature. Who are we to argue? If Pep rates him, and Ole - who could spot a centreback’s weaknesses a mile off - what do we know?

Agree1 1Disagree

14 Jun 2019 21:19:13
Imagine a Brexit back four of Shaw, Smalling, Jones and Young. We'd be sorted.

Agree4 0Disagree

14 Jun 2019 21:56:28
What do you mean imagine.

With Woodward in charge THAT will be our back four.

Time will tell .
But we also need quality signings
Let's get this transfer window over and done with.
Start of season will give us a clue where we will finish in the league.
Fingers crossed we start with a good momentum and carry it on till the end of the season.

Agree0 3Disagree

14 Jun 2019 22:16:33
Apparently on the amazon prime series of city, Pep singles out magurire as a weekness ass no pace and should target him. I've never seen it but heard it on the grape vine.

14 Jun 2019 22:43:22
Would Maguire be an improvement on our current options at CB? Yes he would, although that is more an indictment of our current CB's than it is an endorsement of Maguire.

Is he value for money at the reported 70-90m price bracket. Absolutely not.

He would improve us, but he wouldn't lift us up to the level we require.

Best avoid him. Players such as Dias or Milenkovic although not as good as Maguire right now have a much higher ceiling and are available for half the price. Best to go for one of them and spend the rest of the money improving the squad elsewhere.

Also the last two players we "beat" City to (Sanchez and Fred) have hardly set the world alight.

I'm starting to think they are making up interest in poor players to make us buy them trying to beat City to a player.

15 Jun 2019 10:31:27
For me, my order would be.

Varane (not going to happen but wishful)
De Ligt

Then Manalos, De Vrij and about 20th place probably Maguire, personally think De Ligt or Dias will sign.

Agree2 3Disagree

15 Jun 2019 11:39:54
It still AMAZES me how Nathan Ake gets overlooked by the majority.
Forget the BIG names, look under the surface at proven, statistical analysis of the players and you will surprise yourselves.
Ake, Romagnoli, Ake and possibly De Ligt are the main 4 we should be looking at. For an experienced CB, we should be looking at Alderweireld.

Agree4 2Disagree

15 Jun 2019 15:28:06
Good shout on Ake, rather have him than Maguire.

Definately need at least 6 signings to try get back in top 4 at least.

CM x2

As much as i love mata i'd let him go and move on, i'd also let Matic go along with Rojo, Darmian, possibly Lukaku if can get a replacement.

Agree2 0Disagree

15 Jun 2019 17:10:17
If we spend 80 million on Maguire I am done.

Varane wants out and he is class 80 million would get varane if Madrid want pogba ask for varane as part of the deal.

Football manager tactics I know but still there are better defenders for 80 million out there.

Maguire is not the finished article nor the first choice of many but he can get on the park (as he is fit) and does a job most of the time. Wouldn’t be the worst signing but hog the CB pairing is him and Lindelof next season then it will be adios CL see you in 2021.

Thanks GDS, you did the absolute same thing with your reply 😋😋😋. repeated the same thing adding nothing. No matter what you or anyone says, Ole will never be worthy of being a manchester united manager in my eyes.

Agree1 16Disagree

13 Jun 2019 06:01:51
UA, ole was asked to come in to help the club after Jose was sacked, we get you love Jose but ole had nothing to do with his sacking. He had a great start results wise whether you like it or not and was appointed by the club to be permanent manager, now ole isn't exactly going to say no is he. Yes he's had a rough time towards the end of the season but he has to have time to bring in the players he wants to suit how he wants to play and whether they are players you want or not surely you, me and every fan should get behind the team and show our support, how you can say he will never be worthy is pretty dumb, no one knows how things will work out so people need to stop throwing their toys, stop speculating on things we don't have a clue about and support the team.

Agree11 0Disagree

13 Jun 2019 06:07:16
That's a ridiculous statement UA.
Let Ole get a pre-season, new recruits and let's see if he is able to move the club forward.

The decision is already made. As a supporter, it is our duty to back the manager.

Agree9 1Disagree

13 Jun 2019 08:20:24

13 Jun 2019 13:28:54
If its 'no matter what anyone says' then you are in the wrong place as this is a forum for discussion and listening to other people's informed opinions.

My reply did add something but the Ed's decided only to include the end of it which is fair enough, when you post the same thing on different posts it is called trolling, there really isn't a place for that here, go on twitter or something.

Agree4 0Disagree

13 Jun 2019 13:51:34
Opinions, each to his own. Now i am not asking you guys to say yes to what i am saying or feel. You back Ole, fine by me. I dont, so i guess it should be fine to you guys too. I have seen 6 months of football under Ole and haven't seen a style or pattern developing in his game. His in game management has been poor and saying poor is being modest. He has played his favorites week after week after week, no matter how atrocious they have been. Pre-season is a PR exercise. He has had 6 months already. I don't see how 15 days of pre-season is going to help. Yes he will get a few new players in but you can put the worlds best players in the team but unless you have a style or pattern that you want your team to play in, none of those players would do any good. And let's be honest, atleast to ourselves, we all know that it is Phelan that is the manager behind the scenes and Ole is just a yes man.

Its not about whether i respected Jose or not but atleast he had the balls to call people out who didn't want the best for the club. let's see how Ole does. As far as i have heard, club will block Pogba's transfer so what will Ole do? Play him week after week and let him spoil the club's environment. He should have the guts to not play that bad apple.

My opinion.

Agree1 11Disagree

13 Jun 2019 14:03:41
GDS you do like to tell people what they should do or not. What is it. doesn't your wife listen to you, so you come here and tell others? Or are you Ole's wife? How come you become the moral police on here? I haven't seen one post of mine where you haven't poked your nose in, isn't that what normal "informed" people would call trolling? If my posts disturb you, why don't you simply ignore it and move on, like i do for yours. Its a simple step, try it for once and you will feel better.

The OP is nothing to do with Ole but you once again chose to slag him off, hence why I called it trolling. We know that you dislike Ole, what are you adding by continuously saying it over and over?

I think the thumbs up and down can give you an idea and a gauge as to which of us people think is the troll here.

Agree7 0Disagree

14 Jun 2019 07:05:09
Telling people to move on should not be acceptable. I had a dose of that from one or two and at one point I was told I had some mental condition on here, some syndrome, all because I had an opinion that someone didn’t agree with. UA, you have an opinion and stand for what you believe.

As for Ole, my opinion is well known, but we haven’t lost games these last few weekends so Ole’s stock must be improving. We are trying to attract players with an amateur manager and I can’t see Ole’s tactical acumen improving due to pre season. Thank goodness Allegri is taking a sabbatical so when Christmas comes and we are in a mess there might be a potential option when Ole is shown the door. Just wish we could be rid of the owners and Woodward as well.

Agree3 6Disagree

14 Jun 2019 07:33:38

Believable1 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - There has not been a fee agreed at this time.}

12 Jun 2019 11:10:12
Sounds like Palace want a big fee for the player.

This is becoming more and more of an occurrence with the premier league sides and their star players. I guess the amount of money in the game now is making the top teams not require play sales to keep above the water.

Lets hope the clubs can agree on a fee before pre-season. Hate seeing transfers drag on for the whole window.

Not saying there isn't.

Just stating that Premier League clubs are more and more increasing the value of their players.

12 Jun 2019 19:57:37
Madrid have just signed Ferland Mendy who is a LB for £45Million. Wan-Bissaka has the best stats as a full back in the Premier League which I think we’d all agree is a tougher league than the French League. City changed the playing field when they stumped up for Mendy and Walker and Munich have splashed out on Lucas Hernandez. We get Wan-Bissaka for £60 Million and for 10 years, it’s good business.

I agree 100% GDS.

A problem we've have the past few years is the lack of quality on our right hand side. To the point where players like Valencia and Young have looked decent, simply because we've got no better.

I expect AWB to be great for us and we'll see a more comfortable defence and midfield knowing that we're strong on both sides.

Obviously in an ideal world we'd sign Sancho / Bale and A CM such as Rabiot. But I cannot see that many signings happening this summer, would love to be surprised though.

Agree2 0Disagree

11 Jun 2019 14:08:56
I don't believe we're in for awb, why would we sign a 21 year old rb for 60m when we have a 20 year old rb with massive potential like dalot.
I think someone like meunier is a much more likely option.

Agree2 13Disagree

11 Jun 2019 14:32:51
remember Dalot showed some good potential as a RM/ RW in a couple of games this year. It may be that AWB and Dalot can play together forming a strong right side.
Dalot also can play LB which provides cover and with AWB in the squad allows us to offload Young as we have AWB, Dalot, Shaw and one from the youths.

Agree5 1Disagree

11 Jun 2019 14:42:12
Ed002 has confirmed we're interested and a lot of rumours / reports saying it's going to happen as long as the clubs agree on a price.

Dalot has potential but is far from being our starting RB.

Agree3 0Disagree

11 Jun 2019 14:45:06
Meunier played only 20 odd games this season and whenever he played he was average, hence they are letting him go, so its a big no for Meunier.
Dalot has potential no doubt, but i would let him add depth to the squad for a season or two and sign AWB as an immediate starter.

Agree0 0Disagree

11 Jun 2019 15:13:27
Gds I think people brought up need/ want for RWs and CMs because the op said he would be content with AWB, decent CB and Bruno Fernandes. I too would still want a RW and hopefully another CM on top of them.

Also Weggy do you really want us to go for Bale in "an ideal world"? For me he would only be a last gasp option if only we can't get anyone decent through the door and even then only on a loan without an obligation to buy. I think we shouldn't consider signing Bale at this stage, in an ideal world and rather go for other players like Sancho ( who you did mention) or Chiesa, etc.

Rosspique FB is a really demanding position in the modern game so having 2 good options wouldn't be bad in my opinion if we sign AWB. Also both AWB and Dakota are versatile enough and can provide cover in other positions. Also I think we being homegrown works in favour of AWB and is one of the reasons we are showing serious interest in bringing him here.

Agree0 1Disagree

11 Jun 2019 15:19:17
Or we could just have two young players competing for a spot in the same position. Going to be playing 50/ 60 games next season and our injury record is pretty poor so we need two players for each position.

Agree5 0Disagree

11 Jun 2019 15:47:39
You need 2 quality players in each position to challenge on all fronts.

We miss out on awb will be very disappointing.

Agree2 0Disagree

11 Jun 2019 15:53:27
Deependra If I had the choice I would pick Sancho over bale every single time. However Sancho looks very unlikely to be leaving this summer and if the rumours of getting Bale on a 1 year loan are true then I would welcome him.

Lets be honest, minus his injury record he is one of the best attackers in world football and would be one our top goalscorers if he did join.

By 'ideal world' I meant the best realistic scenario.

However we can't minus his injury record. Its a major factor on whether he would be a good buy or not. Plus he doesn't want to leave Madrid and ignores medical advice an keeps golfing which isn't helping with the injuries. i'd avoid him like the plague.

But how can we ignore his woeful injury record when looking at Bale along with his not so good season last term and his astronomical wages will be a very big pain in the backside for whoever tries to sign him. Although as a club we make a lot of money from revenue but still we are maxed out in terms of wages (ffp), and unlike transfer fees you can't just increase it enormously, I think you can only have an increment of around 5-10% (not sure on the exact figure) from the previous ffp year/ cycle. So I can see a lot of cons at pursuing Bale.

Both are primarily Right Wingers are they not Ed?

I understand Sancho can play on the left too as well as Bale playing as a Striker or behind the Striker.

From all accounts we are looking at playing dalot further forward.

11 Jun 2019 17:13:08
bale actually played the most games since he joined them.

42 games and he scored 14 goals and got 6 assists.

when you actually see them numbers he's not as injured as we all think.

Dalot will not be played further forward. Dalot has the potential to be one of the best attacking rbs in the world, there are defensive issues he would need to work on obviously.
I would prefer to have a slightly older rb, in their prime, again someone, and this next word is important 'like' meunier who dalot can learn his trade of rather than having 2 very young inexperienced rbs.
I'll come back to ye when we don't sign awb.
Also whoever said it was reported a lot above, think gaitan, schneider, garay etc etc.

11 Jun 2019 18:37:19
Yes but as well as the media reports our very own Ed002 confirmed the clubs interest.

Why are you so confident he won't be joining?

Also Dalot has shown nothing to warrant him potentially being one of the best attacking fullbacks in the world, so far he has been OK but that's all.

AWB has proven he's good enough after a full season in the prem.

Yes Sancho and bale play in the same position and as for Dalot he will never be one of the best right backs in the world.

Initial reports we bid £40 million yesterday do you believe clowns like Ed have gone straight to £55 million in a day, took us a month to buy a player at £15 million. I fully expect we will be overpaying for fourth or fifth choice players a week before the deadline closes, as usual.

Agree2 2Disagree

10 Jun 2019 18:02:58
M. E. N reckon the bid was made and rejected a week ago (Not sure how reliable they are) . May be Utd have made another bid.

If it takes 60 million pay it because if we don’t someone will and we’ll end up with 2nd or 3rd choice and regret it, get him and we’ve got a class fullback for next 10 years, looks like 50 million going rate for a decent fullback now.

Agree3 1Disagree

10 Jun 2019 20:44:42
I’m as eager as anyone to see our squad improved but I don’t get the “just pay it” approach. There are budgets and valuations to consider. Would like us to sign AWB, looks to have everything needed to be a top modern day full back, but he’s not worth £60m+ with 1 good season under his belt, even in today’s market.

Would be interested to know what fee Palace would quote if the likes of Everton and West Ham were enquiring. Probably half what we’ve been quoted.

Agree0 3Disagree

10 Jun 2019 21:30:24
Why would Palace sell him to Everton or West Ham for half the price? That just doesn't make sense. Palace are under no pressure to sell, he's one of the most promising full backs in the country, the player isn't agitating for a move, he's still under contract so if somebody wants him they'll have to make Palace an offer they can't refuse.

Didn't Everton buy Richarlison from Watford for around £50m after only playing one season in the Premier League?!

It's the same for the likes of Maguire and Maddison. Their values are being pushed through the roof as Clubs are no longer under financial pressure to sell players, they are better equipped than ever before to retain their best players so if players have signed long term contracts getting them from other Club's is difficult and very expensive.

Dan James’s father died while we were sorting out the deal, did you want the club to ignore than just so we looked like we had completed the deal quicker? Sure you would still have found something to moan about then.

Agree2 0Disagree

11 Jun 2019 03:38:17
I heard. this is the time Ed has taken " pay whatever is rigidly asked and close the deal" approach. That's why second bid is excatly what palace has asked for. I mean it would be with add ons but matching. it also says it will be done till 14th this month.

11 Jun 2019 07:19:07
DLIB I think you missed my point slightly, which is because we are Manchester United the price becomes inflated because other clubs know we spend silly money.

If you took away out interest like it never happened, and other clubs were sniffing around, I don’t think the price would be as high.

Agree0 0Disagree

11 Jun 2019 11:11:01
Wazza, that has been true for the last 15 years or more. Clubs know Utd have the money, so they up their price, and they know we can't just drop interest and go for a second choice, because the second choice will have their price inflated too.

Hi all,
Thanks to the Eds as always.
According to Van der Kraan, Van de Beek is keen on a move to us. His preferred destinations are either ourselves or Spurs.

I like the player, what are the thoughts of others?

Ed (s), is there interest from us?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - The player has often said he would like to play for Spurs at some point and there is known interest from half a dozen or more sides - but not Manchester United. The plan is that he will stay in Ajax one more year.}

10 Jun 2019 10:35:10
I’ve never seen us linked to him. Looks a decent player tbf, tidy on the ball. As ed said, spurs looks a more likely destination. Think there are better options out there for us.
