Interesting stat if true.

When Matic has played we've kept 14 clean sheets, when he hasn't we've kept 3.

Just shows if these stats are true how he transform our team and makes a stronger unit. For instance the City game in first leg first half we were cut to shreds and he came on second and we were far better.

For me he's the best CDM at the club and his legs have far from gone.

Believable2 0Unbelievable

27 Feb 2020 18:32:26
Instead of looking at stats, look at his performances. The last 3-4 games he has been good.

Other than that, he had been average.

This just shows that we need to sign a really good DM.

Imagine if we were lucky enough to sign Neves. A DM that can play and score and set the pace of the game.

I agree with you.

27 Feb 2020 20:51:37
Well it's no coincidence that when he plays were a better team.

28 Feb 2020 00:45:51
I don’t watch wolves that often but I thought Neves was one of the worst players on the pitch in the league game at OT, I was keeping an eye on him as people say he would be a good signing but all he did was turn and pass backwards all the time and kept getting caught out of position. Maybe it was just a bad day for him.

Ed02, if you don't mind, the Independent are reporting that we are 'strongly considering Antero Henrique and Ralf Rangnick for the role of technical director' - is there any truth in this?

Rangnick seems like a very good option given his work at RBL.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Ralf Rangnick is the target for Milan - I don't know if Manchester United are keen on him. Henrique has been spoken of before and he is available - I am not sure the structure of the club would suit him.}

18 Feb 2020 12:27:03
I'm a huge fan of Rangnick I think he's done a brilliant job at Leipzig.

Ed002, considering the structure of the club who do you feel would be best suited to the role the club is looking for?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - They need to change the structure.}

18 Feb 2020 13:03:47
Ed002, is it a reluctance to change the structure the thing which is holding up the club finding the right person to appoint?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - Not just that.}

19 Feb 2020 14:27:11
Ed, would you be prepared to explain in brief how the structure needs to be changed? Many of us are not familiar with the United specifics compared to other clubs. Perhaps also it would help to reduce the volume of questions and speculation in the future. Thanks.

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - No, the supporters will simply carry on their hate campaign with other members of club staff.}

I appreciate that Ed but let's face it we are a very small band of supporters on this page. Anything you say is unlikely to migrate too far.

Poch was spotted with Woodward and his p.r. man the other day. Allegri is on record saying he’s been offered a top Premier League side, Poch much the same.

With Manchester City's plight and Manchester United's hit and miss on and off the field, City and United could end up with new managers, with Ole bumped up to D.O.F.?

It's a rumour site after all. Lol.

Believable1 0Unbelievable

16 Feb 2020 12:15:09
Ole bumped down to kitchen porter or witness for the defense, more like.

Poch wasn't spotting with Woodward at all. If so prove it.

Agree0 0Disagree

17 Feb 2020 10:15:41
"Woodward and his p. r. man" - seems more like a publicity stunt by Woodward trying to feed fire to the media stories linking Poch with the United job in the summer. Just keep the flame burning and keep the fans excited till summer and then probably do something really baffling.

It was widely reported. Think it was at a Leeds game, Woodward’s pr man was sat with poch. The articles state he was there. As per express, metro, team talk etc etc.
After all this is supposed to be a rumour site! Some people take this site WAY to seriously.

Hi Ed002,
Do United consider Dean Henderson as their first choice Goalkeeper in the near future?
Does the club have any specific plan for him.

Finally, will the club be open to offers for De Gea?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - De Gea signed a new contract about six months ago and is the clear first choice. I am sure that Manchester United would like to keep Dean Henderson but they will be aware that some high profile sides are looking for goalkeepers this summer and both PSG and Spurs have been watching Henderson.}

14 Feb 2020 11:45:45
Personally I would prefer to sell DDG this summer and bring Henderson back as first choice.

I have a sneaky feeling Henderson will get the nod for England at the Euro's and could have an absolute stormer of a tournament and we could see several sides push to sign him this summer.

Agree8 0Disagree

14 Feb 2020 14:31:55
Absolutely agree shappy, if psg want a utd gk hopefully we can get them to show interest in the one that earns 400k and looks to be on a decline.

Agree1 0Disagree

14 Feb 2020 14:52:34
Good luck shifting de gea with a long contract and big wages and with his reputation not what it once was after a string of poor performances.

We will have to sell henderson as he won't want to be number 2 or go on a perpetual loan cycle.

Agree0 0Disagree

14 Feb 2020 14:27:24
ED002 is there any interest in DDG?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - Nothing noteworthy. He was third choice on Juventus' list but they resolved their problem with Wojciech Szczesny signing a new deal.}

15 Feb 2020 01:35:30
De Gea has probably been our stand out player again this season bar 1 or 2 errors.

Made a lot of top saves kept us in games.

For me still the best in the league.

Agree5 0Disagree

15 Feb 2020 07:31:32
Probably the only area of the pitch where we have a very strong group of players to pick from.

Agree1 0Disagree

15 Feb 2020 09:16:28
I am with Shappy on this. DDG doesn’t command his 6 yard box let alone the penalty area. Brilliant shot stopper but if I am a defender when a cross comes in I would have that lack of command in my mind. For me I wouldn’t have given him the big fancy new contract and would have given Henderson a chance this season. I definitely would next season, if we could shift DDG.

Agree4 0Disagree

15 Feb 2020 17:00:35
Stone the crows me and Red Man agree on something.

On a serious note Red Man is right about the lack of command from DDG. I would say this is partially what leads to us conceding so many individual errors.

DDG for me is a world class shot stopper. But there isn't any other areas of goalkeeping where you would call him world class.

Distribution? Collecting high balls? 1v1's? Command of his area? Organisation? Although not a key metric he has only saved one penalty in 5 years.

Agree5 0Disagree

15 Feb 2020 17:29:19
I too agree with Red Man here.
Henderson is showing a lot of promise at 22 and he is an ambitious lad.

Agree2 0Disagree

15 Feb 2020 18:53:28
Bearing in mind that top goalies can play til their mid thirties and mature later than outfield players why not groom Henderson over the next few years by letting him go out on loan to good sides to get great experience then phase out DDG.

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - Why would he agree to that?}

15 Feb 2020 19:00:25
If you played in defence you had to face forward and trust the keeper behind you. If there was any doubt it affected your decision making and concentration.

Agree0 0Disagree

16 Feb 2020 15:15:51
ED 02 Maybe someone could talk to Henderson and explain that a lawyer or doctor or engineer has to train for a long time and do an apprenticeship, then practice as a junior before ultimately taking on increasingly more complex, responsible roles. That is a template for long term success. It would not harm Henderson to stay at a club like Sheffield Utd for another season or two.

Agree1 0Disagree

16 Feb 2020 18:29:52
Salford, did you say the same about a 17 year old Messi, or Ronaldo, or Rooney. What about Donnarumma? He has been AC Milan's first choice since he was 18.

Henderson turns 23 this year. What's the phrase, "if your good enough then your olde enough".

Henderson is hungry and talented with a determination to improve. He is ready, PSG are looking at him.

Agree5 0Disagree

16 Feb 2020 18:49:38
Poor old Romero. Probably the best backup in the Prem and good enough to start in most of the teams. When DDG-gate was in full swing I would have been happy with him as the first choice. Maybe it says a lot about his ambition that a World Cup finalist GK is content watching every game.

Agree0 0Disagree

16 Feb 2020 20:09:11
Shappy it's different for goalies. Apart from The Milan keeper it is so rare to get young keepers for two reasons. Firstly their position needs a mental maturity that is usually lacking in young players and secondly the very best goalies need to be physically imposing. DDG is rightfully accused of not dominating his box and I am convinced his comparatively slight physique contributes to this.

Agree1 0Disagree

16 Feb 2020 21:29:04
Salford, remind me again how old DDG was when he was first made our No.1.

What about Buffon at Parma, or Casillias at Real Madrid.

Keepers are playing regularly for top sides long before there 22nd birthday.

Henderson is ready, he has the joint most clean sheets in the EPL.

Hi Ed002, who is the youngster Manchester United were speaking to yesterday you referenced on the European pages please?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - It is the same player I have mentioned before. Isaac Lihadji (RW) kiddie from Marseille who is attracting interest of several sides - had not been interested in joining MU but the club has persisted and has spoken with Marseille to see if something can be done to appease the player and pay compensation.}

13 Feb 2020 13:11:59
Chelsea agree to sign ziyech in the summer, good move I think. Ed002 are they still interested in sancho also? Does his possible move to us hinge on UCL qualification? On a side note it goes to show that work can continue outside of the window if clubs actually have a plan and are organised 😉.

Believable1 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Unless there is a very significant change in the financial demands Chelsea will drop interest in Sancho. Manchester United are keen but the budget may not stretch but they could return with an offer.}

13 Feb 2020 14:20:29
thanks ed002.

Agree0 0Disagree

13 Feb 2020 16:37:22
In your deductions, where do you suggest Sancho may end up Ed?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - It is largely down to one person and his demands, what the player is open to and whether or not Dortmund are willing to work on the price. If you look at the clubs as options, the player has made it clear a return to London and joining Chelsea would be his preferred choice, but they are not going to pay for the total package as it is costed right now. Manchester City are in a similar place financially as Chelsea - and don't see anywhere close to the value in the player. Liverpool would need to let go of Salah and commit a lot more money to make it viable - I can't see that is the plan and it would be disruptive and rather stupid if they went down that road. Real Madrid and Barcelona both have high end targets that will soak up significant funds and will be ready to go immediately they join - they are likely unimpressed by the risk associated with the potential benefits. As for Manchester United, they remain in turmoil with no direction and the player wants to move elsewhere - they could throw money at the problem but it would then mean they don't have the funds left to fix the more significant issues. Dortmund may try and work the Euros and him excelling to try and leverage more from the English sides - but that would be a high-risk plan for all. Else he stays at Dortmund. There will be a further discussion with one of these sides in the coming days - so right now it remains up in the air.}

13 Feb 2020 20:36:59
Ed if you don’t mind me asking what areas would you suggest United need to address the most? I understand the costs behind a deal for Sancho- but I would say we are crying out for a right winger, a striker and another midfield player. Would you agree?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - DM, CM, CM/AM, W/F and S are needed over coming transfer windows but I suspect the club will prioritise CM/AM (e.g. a Jack Grealish), S (e.g. Dries Mertens) and a W/F (e.g. Wilfied Zaha) and then a couple of pricey youngsters (e.g. Joe Gelhardt (F) and Jude Bellingham) - but realistically if you look at the amounts of money involved in such changes it makes little sense and looking closely at value for money - and it is hard to see. Maybe the sale of Pogba will be tougher than the club realise and the could be forced down the road of listening to which players Real Madrid or Juventus could offer in a deal - although Isco could well be used, he is not what is needed now. James could be an option for the W/F - and although Bale fits that role, wages would be a huge issue. So sorting out Pogba is a priority.}

13 Feb 2020 22:40:11
I think we should stay clear of Sancho spending minimum 100 million plus wages on a 20 year old is ridiculous

We should sell pogba and fix the issues in other areas first before we make an stupid offer for a plauer that doesn't want to play in Manchester.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - How would Manchester United get him so cheaply?}

14 Feb 2020 08:05:15
Sancho is clearly a very talented player. That said I'm not fully convinced he is the right style of wide player we need.

With Rashford cutting in from the left and Bruno often preferring to push forward in the inside right channel we really don't want a wide right player who is looking to cut in. It will just compress the space in the final third and give all of our forwards less space to play in. Especially if we persist with AWB at RB, he doesn't push forward enough or offer a big enough threat when he does.

Although for me RW would be further down the order of priority, if I had to pick someone out as being the ideal candidate it would be Adama Traore. Something closer to a traditional wide player. Someone who can burst past the full back and either cross the ball or cut it back. Someone who'll stretch the pitch and make more space for Rashford, Martial and Bruno breaking from midfield.

Agree3 0Disagree

14 Feb 2020 09:02:57
Shappy, if we go for Jack Grealish, then Bruno will most probably play further behind alongside a defensive midfielder.
Therefore, we definitely need a RW.

As you suggested, Adama Traore looks like an absolute power house this year. Wilfried Zaha is another option.

Agree1 0Disagree

14 Feb 2020 10:40:01
Sancho may not come due to the reasons given by Ed002 which makes sense but potentially is better than Adama and Zaha, both like Sancho would not come cheap and on my views are prone to poor decisions and inconsistency. Sancho is a right footed RW, i think he would compliment Bissaka well.

14 Feb 2020 05:58:36
Ed, thanks for the breakdown above, great info as always.

You mentioned Mertens, is he now someone United are looking at? I think he'd be a sensible signing. Still a good player, 32 years old and can play across the front line. Much better than trying to sign someone like Callum Wilson.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - Yes, Mertens is of interest to Manchester United but he is being pushed toward another side.}

14 Feb 2020 08:42:15
Thanks as always for all the priceless inside information Ed002, really very much appreciated.

Could I possibly ask who our primary Defensive Midfield and Central Midfield targets might be please? Will understand if you reply RTP if targets are the same from previous detailed updated you’ve kindly posted.

Also, when you say MU are in turmoil and lack direction, does that allude to indecision about a manager going forward into next season and also a lack of a Sporting Director?

Thanks again for anything you have time to provide.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - (a) Boubakary Soumare is certainly of interest Marcos Llorente may still be of interest. You can scratch Eduardo Camavinga now. A change in coach would be required to attract Denis Zakaria and without Champions League you can scratch him. (b) Jack Grealish remains a very clear target for midfield.}

14 Feb 2020 09:57:00
TrueRedDevil, I feel that with Bruno now signed we should move towards a 433 type shape. Bruno needs a little more freedom to find the space and use his intelligence to break teams down.

I would go all out for a mobile holding midfielder who can shield the back four, then look at a creative attacking midfielder such as Grealish who can create chances by carrying the ball forward.

I'd then look to line up with the new DM and Bruno every week, and switch between McTominay and the new AM depending on whether we need to be more solid in midfield or have more creative ability on the pitch.

I agree we need a RW, but I also feel that we need coverage/ challenger for Martial and I'm not convinced the defence has the right balance yet.

Whereas, I do feel Greenwood and Dalot can play a role on the right hand side. While James has also done well there this season. I'd rather play Greenwood there for a year, let him develop more then sign a RW in the summer of 2021 when we could move Martial on and Greenwood could challenge the striker we sign this summer for the starting striker spot.

However, I appreciate other see things differently. I just want to see more homegrown lads make it at the club and in Greenwood we have one who could become a world class player. So for me making space for him in the side is vital for him to become a top player.

14 Feb 2020 11:51:38
Shappy, your point above about Greenwood is a good one and not signing a RW this summer might be a good option as long as Greenwood gets plenty of game time.

That's why I think Mertens is a sensible signing, he wouldn't block Greenwood for years to come but is still able to contribute for the next couple of seasons. Free transfer probably means big wages but you'd hope Pogba, Sanchez, Smalling etc will all be off the wage books so should have room for a signing like that.

See talk that we tried to get Corentin Tolisso from Byaern on loan in January, but due to an injury crisis they would'nt let him go .

Any truth in this and are the club interested in follwing up with an offer in the summer?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Corentin Tolisso (CM) An apt time to ask. Bayern Munich have made the player available for sale as they look to a shake up of the team and want to clear some out in the summer - and with Gretzka, Thiago and the up and coming Cuisance all playing in the same central midfield position, Tolisso is seen as surplus. Tolisso also had a serious injury issue last season but apparently all is well now - aside from niggling stuff. His representatives fielded several requests for loans from France and England in January but, like the agents of Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng, he knew Bayern Munich would not be doing any business over the winter. There has been a discussion with one specific French side about the possibility of a summer move and the lady involved they may just be interested if a suitable price was proposed given the injury history. There has also been a discussion with Napoli as a potential Fabian Ruiz replacement - but they are still sorting themselves out from their problems and have no immediate interest. If the price suits it is expected Arsenal will be approached to see if previous interest remains given the situation with Dani Ceballos - but right now they are heading in a different direction as well. A return to Lyon will no doubt have been discussed with the player but even if they let Houssem Aouar leave this coming summer the addition of the vesatile Bruno Guimaraes will already have covered that.}

13 Feb 2020 10:45:31
Thanks for that Ed.

Ed002, with reports of United looking for 3 major signings in the summer.
What are the odds those 3 are:

Jadon Sancho (£100m)
Jack Grealish (£60m)
Timo Werner (£50m Release Clause)

Other options would be Moussa Dembele and James Maddison.

Obviously this is before any outgoings which is looking like Pogba then a Cm is needed as well.

Any news regarding those 3 major signings?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of the club stating that they will be making three "major transfers" this summer and I certainly cannot give you odds on all of these players signing I am afraid. As for the news about these three players, I would not expect Jadon Sancho to join Manchester United although they are keen - he will move in the summer but I would not hold your breath it will be to Manchester. Jack Grealish remains viable for Manchester United as he can play on the left and in a more attacking role - Aston Villa will need to let him go if relegated and have an FFP issue that could manifest itself as early as this coming summer - MU may well look to exploit that as he offers something different to Bruno Fernandes and other options are off the table. UNless there has been a change of heart, Manchester United's interest in Timo Werner has gone - release clauses are not relevant.}

Werner will surely go to Bayern? Him Havertz and Sane look like their main targets.

Agree0 0Disagree

13 Feb 2020 04:44:37
Lewandowski still doesn't look like slowing down. So Werner moving to Bayern wouldn't make him a automatic starter possibly.

Also, if we go in for Grealish, I believe he may operate more advanced in a 3 man midfield alongside Bruno and McTominay.

Finally, if Sancho and Ziyech are striked off our list, I'm not sure who will be the ideal target for the RW role.

Where does Jude Bellingham play exactly?

Agree0 0Disagree

13 Feb 2020 09:46:49
Welsh, at St Andrews every other week😂

On a serious note he is still very young and his final position might change. He has played as a holding midfielder, box to box, attacking midfielder and on the wings. He might have even played a game or two just off the striker. I think long term he'll be a No.8, all action midfielder who pushes forward and scores and assists goals.

Similar to Bruno Fernandes, could eventually be his successor given that he is 10 years his junior. But Jude needs to be playing to progress. With Garner in our squad I'm not convinced that we need a player like Bellingham.
