Good morning ed002.
Do you expect Manchester United to try and get any new players in during the Jan window.? Who if anybody are the club targeting?
Secondly do you think we will be able to sell on any players? Is there any interest in any of our players from elswhere?
Thanks for your time.
Ken.

{Ed002's Note - I don't see a concerted effort to do anything specific in January right now and my expectation is that clubs will not be looking to do too much in January as it is very difficult to plan for. Ighalo is out of contract in January and the club need to make decisions about those out of contract in the summer. The club will look toward players for the summer and already many clubs are talking to each other and agents about what will happen next summer. The club will look to add a third choice GK, perhaps internally, a CB, DM, and perhaps a LM. Much depends on sorting out the midfield problems.}

Thought as much ed thank you.
Jan never the best time and with the unpredictability around finances its even worse this year.
I think shifting a few out will take priority this winter.
I hope that we can do that. Rojo and mata are both out of contract in the summer i'm not sure who else is.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - My notes say:
Sergio Romero (G) out of contract
Lee Grant (G) out of contract
Timothy Fosu-Mensah (RB) out of contract
Marcos Rojo (LB/CB) out of contract
Jesse Lingard (AM) out of contract
Edinson Cavani (S) out of contract
Odion Ighalo (S) out of contract in January}

Amateurs may still offer or trigger options players have to their contracts.

i think cavani will likely get a new deal

the rest can leave for me.

01 Dec 2020 15:03:45
Cavani might be useful to keep for another year, he does have a one year extension option.

T
All the others should be allowed to leave. None are anywhere near the first 11, they are taking up a lot of wages and even if given a new deal we wouldn't be able to get much for them. Best cutting ties and allowing them to move on.

01 Dec 2020 15:46:07
I'd keep Cavani as he is useful. The others can go as it will free up spaces in the squad aswell as wages. After all, C.V. effects will last some time. We need a new shirt sponsorship soon, it will more than likely be less than what we got last time.

Agree1 0Disagree

01 Dec 2020 15:46:19
All of those players out of contract should be let go only one I'd consider keeping is cavani but that will be based off how he does this season. also ed wouldn't Mata be on the list?

Hasn't TFM signed a new contract?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - He may well have done - I didn't check

I hope Woodward doesn't do the "need to protect the value" thing.

02 Dec 2020 03:41:32
So we are not after a rw now such as Sancho which is good news as I think buying him doesn't make sense afyer buying Diallo and Pelistri.

02 Dec 2020 09:31:02
At least Phil Jones is'nt out of contract, thank God.

02 Dec 2020 11:34:53
Many thanks as always, Ed002.

I wouldn't object to any of the out of contract players leaving, with the exception of Cavani who should be renewed for a further year.

Interesting that you mentioned the club may look at left midfielder, I can't understand that when we have Rashford and Martial for that role. Are you able to shed any light onto this please? If you have chance before Christmas a broader transfer target update would be much appreciated.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - Rashford and Martial are forwards not midfield players. Don't expect much if anything in January.}

AC Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu is 'very, very likely' to join Manchester United next summer. That is according to Bild's Christian Falk, who claims the Red Devils are already in advanced talks with his agent over a potential deal.

Just read the above. Also being reported in SempreMilan. Any observations by Eds?

Haven’t heard anything about him but at 26 he surely doesn’t fit the profile of player OGS would be interested in.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

26 Nov 2020 17:04:08
[Ed002]: Hakan Calhanoglu (AM/ LW) Player wants a new contract - Milan could oblige - it may depend on what happens with loanee Bahim Diaz. Atletico and Juventus have asked his German-based agent if a move is possible for them. The agent remains keen on the idea to try the player out in England or Germany.}

26 Nov 2020 17:39:10
Thanks Ed002. Appreciated. What will be will be but he doesn’t appear to play positions we’re deficient in. Agent creating a market?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - The agent has been talking with Atletico and Juventus who both have a need an he is a cheap solution. He will likely agree a new deal with Milan which is what he wants - and he gets a good deal with taxes in Italy. As I have said the driver will be talks with Real Madrid over several matters and that includes BD. The agent is doing nothing wrong.}

26 Nov 2020 18:01:06
Thanks again Ed002. Your insight is always enlightening and welcome. I didn’t intend to give the impression I thought the agent was doing anything wrong. That’s his job after all.

27 Nov 2020 11:44:54
@scoobydog because he’s so old at 26?!
Are you Meryn Trant?

Agree1 1Disagree

27 Nov 2020 13:04:23
Prodigal please explain yourself re Meryn Trant.
OGS seems to be shaping a younger profile team hence the post was supposed to be more of a question than a statement.

If there are any legs in the press stories about Juve wanting Pogba and Inter wanting to swap Fred with Ericsson I would be up for that. Then I would go all out to get Declan Rice to be the new Matic.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - (a) They might be interested at the right price. (b) Inter want Eriksen moved on as soon as possible, preferably in January. If Manchester United were interested it would be as a Bruno Fernandes replacement.}

23 Nov 2020 10:19:05
Last year I was hoping United would sign Eriksen as we need an attacking midfielder. However, Bruno is our best player by a mile and VDB (while not getting much game time so far) is a great replacement for him as well as others in our midfield.

I'd much rather see us sign a defensive midfielder who is an improvement on Fred and Matic. The issue is we have too many players already so adding to that would be a problem.

23 Nov 2020 10:27:36
What happened with Eriksen Ed? Seems to have lost his way?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - It has not worked out and he is not a natural fit in the side and has asked to leave.}

23 Nov 2020 11:24:25
I like Eriksson. But now with bruno they fill the same role essentially so no need to go for him now.
Although there could all be clubs in for bruno soon enough and he may well get tempted to leave so maybe not a futile link.

Agree0 0Disagree

23 Nov 2020 11:31:24
Not to sound too cryptic Ed but do we need to be looking at Bruno Fernandes replacements?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - It is not a position Manchester United are looking to add to right now as far as I understand.}

23 Nov 2020 11:34:44
Ed002 that is probably the second or third time you have mentioned a player being a Bruno Fernandes replacement. Is something going on with Bruno behind the scenes with him may be leaving the club soon?

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - People keep asking about AM players who would be first choice - the only way that would work is if BF were moving on.}

23 Nov 2020 12:00:09
Ah ok, understood. Thanks Ed.

I’d Eriksen for Pogba.

24 Nov 2020 00:46:36
Thanks Ed 02 for your reply. Could not Bruno and Ericsson work together a bit like De Bruyne and Silva did for City?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - I think it unlikely.}

26 Nov 2020 11:26:56
He’s even slower than Matic. Finished as a decent player years ago.

Hi ed 002
There are several reports recently that Manchester United are showing interest in Evertons DOF Marcel Brands.
Do you know if there is any truth in this? His contract with Everton expires at the end of the season.
In your opinion would he be a good candidate and do you think he would get the structure he would like?
Thanks.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Brands has a contract ending next year and much will depend how he feels after now being allowed greater control over at least the first team this season. He would be a great DoF but needs way more than Manchetser United would ever offer as he would want to instill the same approach and discipline throughout the club easing the process of bringing players through. It seems unlikely it would be viable.}

22 Nov 2020 13:19:22
Thanks ed002. Appreciate the switch response.

Reading interesting snippets re Marc Overmars and Edwin van der Sar are becoming of interest to United after they have hinted as to their time in Holland possibly coming to an end. Okay it is in the Mail but being picked up by other outlets as well. Any comments or observations from Ed's? I would love for it to be true.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what "are becoming of interest to United" means. It is no secret that the pair may look for an interesting option next summer of the one after but I don't see how Manchester United would come in to this.}

15 Nov 2020 19:49:27
Nor me Ed002. I was quoting and hoped you might be able to throw light upon it.

15 Nov 2020 00:32:29
Any update on Dean Hendersons future? I think 002 mentioned something a while back about another loan and a possible exit.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - He signed a new contract and much will depend on what happens next summer with David De Gea and there might well be an offer from a Premier League side to think about. It is early days yet.}

15 Nov 2020 15:23:47
Thanks for that ed. be a shame to see him leave as he is showing all the right signs so far. Is there interest in de gea or is it still early days too?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - No, there is no interest in him.}

15 Nov 2020 08:46:30
Being reported that Alex Telles tested positive for C.V. again yesterday Saturday 14th) .

Believable0 0Unbelievable

14 Nov 2020 03:00:55
Looks like we might be looking at David Carmo from Braga. A young tall left sided ball playing CB who seems to be strong, good in the air and most important left footed. The only worry being he seems to be lacking the pace.

Few reports of an agreement already in place to sign him in January. Do the Ed's know anything about this?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - I would need to check. My notes are scant. David Carmo (CB) Fiorentina remain keen. Milan enquired last summer but decided he wasn't versatile enough. Roma had an offer rejected last summer.}

14 Nov 2020 13:25:01
Thanks Ed002.
