Several outlets suggesting we are in serious contention to sign Ruben Neves for c£35m. Any insider info on this please. Or is it yet more media nonsense?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Ruben Neves (DM/CM) Wolves would look to get as close to €50M as they can should circumstances dictate Neves is sold, but they certainly don't want to sell and have made clear that he has a long-term contract and there have been no approaches at this time. Mr Mourinho is a huge fan and has tried to take him to three different clubs in the past - and he would, I am sure be interested in taking him to Roma. He has always been seen as an option to replace Matic at Manchester United, but they have other priorities to deal with first and preferred options. Arsenal have preferred options but his agent is keen to have him move on so they cannot be discounted.}

Thanks Ed. Appreciated. Personally I think he’d be a very good addition.

Thanks Ed, Ruben Neves will be a huge upgrade on Fred.

This is what frustrates me. If Ole really didn't want Donny that money could have been spent wisely on a DM now.

22 Jul 2021 17:25:52
Donny is Pogbas replacement. Imo it will be money well spent, he will come good. I like neves and spending 40 million would be a good bit of business.

Neves would be a good signing. He tends to be mostly famed for the few spectacular goals he is capable of scoring but he's a decent mopper-upper too.
On Pogba/ VDB, there has always been the suggestion that Donny was snapped up when he became available on the likelihood that Pogba would be on his way out, which has felt likely in most of the last transfer windows. Not sure they are the same type of player but I guess they got wind he could be available for what was seen at the time as being a very reasonable price so took a punt. I was well pleased at the time.
He was bossing and dictating games for Ajax, but the step-up has thus far been too much, He is obviously still highly regarded, particularly by the Spanish teams who seem to retain their interest. Just can't say that I've seen even one game where he justified starting the next. I know about the 'needing to play to get confidence' cycle many players get caught in, but generally a player of his undoubted quality would have done something by now.

22 Jul 2021 21:37:39
Donny just need games to show his worth. I felt a little embarrassed for him last year because a little run out with 5 minutes to go or the odd cup game with a second team isn't his level and he did show little signs . Give him decent playing time and the confidence and quality will shine through. Class is permanent and all that as they say.

23 Jul 2021 04:08:23
I am really not sure if we are going to spend another 40m on a DM right now and we still haven't signed a CB which is seen as a bigger priority.

I do hope that Donny is Pogba's replacement but the way Ole treated him last season and the reports saying we are willing to loan/ sell him doesn't fill me with confidence.

23 Jul 2021 11:54:54
If the rumoured switch to 433 formation is true, or we keep the current formation, sign a DM and give the second cm more freedom to get forward, I think we will see a very different Donny.

Spenno, how was he supposed to show anything when he's brought on with 5 minutes to go?

Agree0 0Disagree

23 Jul 2021 13:44:43
I’m sure even Jason Lee would be able to do something with those five minutes across a season.

I think he got more goals and assists than Fred this season.

{Ed077's Note - I always consider start of summer transfer window(July 1) as end of last season lol}

Hi Ed, media have linked us to a move for Saul. I know you’ve been talking about him for some time. Is there any chance United could or would have discussed it with his agent Barnett recently?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Saul Niguez (CM) Nobody will pay his release clause, but Atletico could look to a very high fee for a player who has a contract that runs for years in order to get his €300k weekly wage off the books. Bayern Munich's first choice to add for midfield and his agent has spoken with several sides as Atletico want to make very significant savings on salaries and could be forced into a corner by the player and his agent. But Bayern see his cash price at €60M (or €75M on terms) and wages of €300k as too high and will want to negotiate - they will almost certainly turn elsewhere. He is being offered to the usual suspects who have money – Barcelona (who would need to include players in a deal), Manchester United (who would need to offload Pogba), Juventus, Manchester City, PSG, Chelsea as a Kovacic replacement - many of which are looking to add a player in his position, but his wages are a major issue for most. Atletico have effectively signed his replacement in de Paul but may make other midfield changes as well. I am not aware of any bid from Liverpool to Atletico at this time, but he would be an excellent choice, but a lot more expensive than other options. Atletico have said that there has been a discussion with Barcelona. It is difficult to second guess what will happen. I think Barcelona will push for some sort of package deal including other players and cash. Atletico would prefer the cash. Other clubs could become involved if players are sold, Pogba for instance.}

18 Jul 2021 21:41:48
Saul, rice, or camavinga would be my options to replace pogba as far as I'm concerned getting rid of pogba this year is a must he has to go.

From what ed has said these are the likely options and it's sounding like we might actually get pogba away to psg.

Agree2 0Disagree

19 Jul 2021 12:07:42
Saul would be an incredible signing, but the hurdle is United having to sell Pogba.

For some reason the club seem absolutely intent on trying to keep him despite the obvious desire to leave. I appreciate they will value him at a certain amount but if anyone at the club believes Pogba really wants to sign a new contract and that his performances have genuinely warranted him becoming one of the highest earners in the league they are kidding themselves.

Selling him now is the best solution for everyone, especially if there's a chance of replacing him with Saul or someone of similar quality.

19 Jul 2021 13:23:43
Amen to that!

19 Jul 2021 15:24:03
Camavinga or Saul? What makes anyone think they will perform any better than Pogba in the EPL? I presume we all saw the Pogba playing for Juventus and welcomed him as a world class player?

Agree0 0Disagree

19 Jul 2021 15:32:45
If Pogba was to move on then Saul would be an amazing addition and potentially the club could see an opportunity in the current market that would not normallt be there.
I have read various articles about where Saul can play and I guess the concern is that he is not an out and out HM so does not currently fill the need, however if we want a ball playing HM and less the Ndidi type then he may fit well.

19 Jul 2021 16:30:11
Pogba leaving? Better call Saul 👀😂.

19 Jul 2021 17:20:04
Cantonas seagull maybe they won't, but pogba hasn't worked out and he's got 1 year on his contract. He'll want more money which for me his performances haven't earned, plus for whatever reasons, wether we agree or not about why his agent will want a lot of money. So while they might not work out it was probably time to find out last year but better late than getting 0 back on our 90m plus signing.

Rumours of united being offered v. junior when discussing the varane deal

United want him on loan with an option to buy.

Is just online rumours but he's only 21 and did have promise when madrid signed him, pacy and can play on either wing.

18 Jul 2021 14:45:22
I mentioned this down the page, ed002 said he won’t be joining us. decent player but I struggle to see why we would want him as he’s another wide player not a number 9. the 2 big Spanish clubs really are having a fire sale aren’t they 🤣.

Rumours that united have been offered Vinicius jr when they were in contact with Real Madrid. Apparently Madrid want 68.5m but a loan with option is a possibility. Is there any substance to this Ed's? Can't see where he would fit tbh.

Does United have any interest in Kalvin Phillips?

Question for the eds please: in light of man utd liking an aging megastar, ie. ibrahimovic, cavani and previously falcao, larson - do you know if we have any solid interest in lewandowski at all?
tia.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Robert Lewandowski (S) Bayern Munich may look to an early agreement with Borussia Dortmund for Erling Braut Haaland to replace Lewandowski in 2022 - Dortmund won't be keen but his agent is happy to follow this route to do what is best for the player. With two years left on his contract Bayern Munich may even be willing to let RL leave this summer but potential interest from Manchester United went with Cavani signing a new deal. PSG may see the player as a short-term solution if they lose Mbappe to Real Madrid this summer - but they are trying hard to keep him.

17 Jul 2021 12:21:08
Thanks for the info Ed.
Who would be interested in RL?
Doesn't he have some ambition to play for Real Madrid? I remember reading something about that once.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - There is no firm interest just general enquiries. Pini wants an extension for him.}

18 Jul 2021 05:18:40
No lolsss. As soon as Haaland moved to BVB, it was 70% certain that he may join Bayern. BvB is thier biggest feeders. 3 domestic titles gurantte every year with UCL spot on confirmation.

So seeing as this is a rumour site I thought I'd pass on an interesting rumour that I have heard today.

Apparently an issue has come up in Sancho's medical which is making United think twice about signing him. They are awaiting the results of further tests.

He was due to be announced today along with the new kit launch but this detail is holding things up.

The club have enquired about Federico Chiesa as a possible alternative if these other tests on Sancho highlight a bigger issue.

Not sure how true this all is, it comes from a friend who is in with a crowd of people in London that includes some players and agents. Sometimes he's on the money, other times not. So like anything take it with a pinch or salt.

Sancho and Rashford were on a plane together last night heading off for a break. If there was an issue with the medical I think they wouldn't let him go abroad.

It's a rumour, probably like 99% of rumours it's probably is a load of tosh. I did say take it with a pinch of salt. But seeing as this is a rumours page, it seemed an appropriate place to talk about a rumour.

as for Kalvin Phillips, to be honest I'd probably prefer him over Rice due to him being a better passer of the ball. I just don't see a Leeds lad through and through moving to United.

Scooby, I said "I just don't see a Leeds lad through and through moving to United".

Meaning a lad born in Leeds/ Yorkshire who has grown up supporting Leeds United.

Jordan and McQueen are Scottish, Cantona French, Irwin Irish and Ferdinand from London.

Signing Kalvin Phillips who was born in Leeds, grew up there and is a boyhood supporter would be like Alan Smith signing. Which went down like a lead balloon with the Leeds fans. Phillips has even spoken about how he felt seeing Smith sign for United when he was a boy and how much he hated it.

It's not an impossible deal, I just think signing Messi for a packet of Quavers would be more realistic and easier to complete.

As Patrick said, Smudge was known as Mr. Leeds United, born and bred in the town when asked once if there was any club he would never play for, he said Man Utd. Then in 2004 he moved to Manchester.
