I mentioned that I wouldn’t be surprised if we made a move for Nkunku/ Felix with Garnacho going the other way. It’s now being reported that we’re in for Nkunku. We haven’t seen much of him in the league but clearly a top talent. What’s everyone’s thoughts? He would cost £70m but can play the number 10 roles. He’s performed well in Europe so it might give us a boost there if we’re to bring him in.
24 Jan 2025 23:13:31
Felix makes more sense positionally I think under Amorim’s system.
Still uncomfortable with the sale of Garnacho. Rashford can go, but there’s a player there with Garan.
24 Jan 2025 23:37:28
Maybe Garnacho plus a little cash?
Still can’t believe this club is having to consider this type of deal but it’s the new model for raising cash. Almost a two steps back to move forward situation.
25 Jan 2025 05:42:44
Isn’t Nkunku always injured?
25 Jan 2025 08:14:03
I'd stay clear of nkunku, we don't need another injured player. If we were looking at anyone from chelsea I'd look at Carney Chukwuemeka.
I hope garnacho stays. Think he adds something different to the other 10's we have.
If it is about having to sell rather than wanting to, I hoe he ends up at napoli.
25 Jan 2025 08:59:41
I agree Tom.
There are a number of players I’d allow to leave ahead of Garnacho to free up and raise funds. But when we’re being realistic, look through the actual squad and who could actually raise any funds for the rebuild?
Lindelof, Maguire, Casemiro, Rashford, maybe Onana? Malacia?
Not exactly a stellar list and none are much sought after. This goes without saying nobody till but Shaw, Antony or Mount from us. Mount’s fitness is actually more vital to us than we know. He’s perfect for the 10 roles.
25 Jan 2025 09:48:25
I agree - I would love to see Mount out there giving 100% because that’s not always guaranteed in a United shirt.
25 Jan 2025 11:49:49
£70m is a crazy fee for a player who cost Chelsea £52m two years ago and has spent most of the time since out injured. When he has played for them, he hasn’t been great.
I might be tempted by a Felix-Garnacho swap deal as I think the former is probably a better fit for Amorim’s system than the latter, but like others, I’m not sure how I’d feel about letting Garnacho go to a rival. It’s clear that he’s not a good fit for the system that Amorim wants to play, but also that he has the potential to become a top player. Seeing him do that with another Premier League club would be a lot more painful than if he did it overseas.
25 Jan 2025 13:57:22
I like Nkunku, but the player we should absolutely be going after for that 10 role is Cunha from Wolves.
Additionally, we need to significantly drop our asking price for Rashford. He needs selling before Garnacho, and is obviously of no use to us as he’s not even being considered for selection. Drop Rashford’s price to £30m and I genuinely believe we’d have multiple offers within hours. It would allow the West Hams of the world to become plausible.
Likewise with Casemiro. £10m would have the Saudis, Americans and Brazilians swarming.
All of a sudden, our sixth choice no.10 and fifth choice midfielder are out the door and we have £40m in the bank plus saving circa £600k per week in wages.
24 Jan 2025 16:11:46
United are reported to have made an approach to talk to Arsenal teenager Ayden Heaven, who apparently wants to leave the Emirates setup. Comes from the same group as Chido Obi Martin who signed for us last month.
Agent Chido? Could be. Ayden was spotted as a guest at OT last night.
23 Jan 2025 12:57:27
I should have waited another hour before posting. United went in with a late loan bid last night but Enciso chose to move to Ipswich this morning as they offered more game time.
23 Jan 2025 11:29:05
Apparently a late enquiry made about Brighton;s Enciso prior to his potential move to Ipswich.
Didn't even get a chance off the bench on Sunday.
Alvaro dissing any return talk 'I am happy here, Benfica gave me the chance to grow'.
22 Jan 2025 08:56:40
Garnacho to napoli looking a real possibility now. Very much doubt we would sell to Chelsea.
22 Jan 2025 10:37:03
If it does happen, we need to be holding out for at least 70 mill, after what we paid for Hoijlund maybe more. Personally I hope it doesn't, as for me he is far down the list of players that add no value to the team. Equally though I understand we need money in to facilitate Amorims team build and unfortunately others aren't seeing value in Rashford.
22 Jan 2025 10:50:06
Not sure how I feel about this. Disappointing for me IMO. Could be a romantic view but I really think he has enough about him to crack on. But if it's what RA wants, well then who am I to argue.
22 Jan 2025 11:37:34
It is dissapointing from the perspective of him being a youngster that we have nurtured all be it we brought him in from Athletico. Also, the talent is there and we have seen this sporadically over the past 18 months. However, there is also a view that like Rashford he is more of a highlights reel player and the overall impact in the game is not as great. Add this to the thought that he does not fit the 343 system and it might be right to maximise his value and sell.
Personally would prefer that be to Napoli than Chelsea and it sounds like he is open/ keen on that move. If we can get anything close to £50/ 55m the it will be too good to turn down, earlier in the window I had viewed him more £40m but with some of the sales including Kvaratskhelia from Napoli likely it will need to be more for us to sell.
It will be interesting what we do if he leaves, Antony already gone on loan and Rashford likely by end of the window. Hopefully there are some deals being worked on for incomings whether on loan or permanent.
22 Jan 2025 12:44:27
He really isn’t that good, £50m in full profit will allow us to buy 2 or 3 players that improve the squad, can see why the club are open to it. Amorim dropped Garna and Rashford for the derby to give them a kick
Up the arse and both of them have shown they aren’t up for the fight.
22 Jan 2025 13:41:30
Napoli will not pay that much. I can't see us getting more than £50m anywhere at this time. If Amorim wants wing backs rather than wings then maybe he's not the right profile however talented he may or may not be.
22 Jan 2025 13:44:07
Funny how 12 months ago he was our future now because we can get a couple of new shiny players. he's not that good! i'm sure with the clubs track record the new faces will be aces.
22 Jan 2025 14:02:27
Not a good sign, selling a HG player with a lot of potential whilst struggling to remove a player on massive wages that we want rid of doesn't sit well. I read into this, the club as desperate for cash.
22 Jan 2025 19:34:33
I'm still on the fence over whether we should sell Garnacho. However, if we do we need to be realistic. Anything around 50m would be a great deal in the current market.
We are seeing tighter financial regulations along with clubs feeling the impact of the pandemic leading to more sensible decisions, combine to see fees dropping around Europe. It will be quite a while before we see players going for north of 100m again.
Garnacho is young and talented, a player with potential. Yet if we are honest not many talented young players leave a club like Manchester United to go on and become a top top player.
While Napoli see Garnacho as a potential replacement for Kvaratskhelia, who himself is only 23 but must be considered amongst the very best LW players in the world right now. A genuine world class talent. A player who has just been sold to PSG for a reported 70m euros which equates to around 59m pounds.
If Kvaratskhelia is worth 59m, then we cannot be valuing Garnacho much above 50m, he isn't at the same level and it is questionable if he has the ability to reach the same level. Even if he does he's likely years away from getting to that level.
There is no point comparing what we have paid for players as some sort of barometer as to what we should expect to get for him.
50m for a player we got for practically nothing, who has potential, but has also shown some worrying signs of mental fragility at times, while also not having a natural position in the team so would require some adapting to become a regular player is actually a great deal.
Right now he isn't a starter, and there is no guarantee that he will ever become a starter. If his sale enables us to buy 2 or even 3 starters then it starts to become a very logical decision.
Look at the impact Amad is having this season. That's the kind of impact a player who is well suited can have on the team.
Would you swap Garnacho for another three players who can match the impact of Amad?
22 Jan 2025 20:09:55
You should bite someone's hand off for 50 million imo. Very average player maybe worth about 25mil I'd say.
22 Jan 2025 21:33:34
Maybe something like £55m + incentives to give us a few quid further down the road? I do like him, he’s very direct and is a great impact sub when opposition is flagging. But if there is a target or two who would fit into this side immediately it should be done IMO.
22 Jan 2025 21:55:06
Spenno, name me a club that would pay 55m+ for Garnacho over Kvaratskhelia for 59m?
One is a player with potential, the other a genuine world class player who is still only 23.
That's like paying the same for a pile of car parts and a Ferrari.
One has the potential to be a Ferrari, but the other already IS a Ferrari.
If Kvaratskhelia is worth 59m in the current market, than Garnacho is worth around 45m at most. If we get more than that then we've done well in the current market.
To be honest if we want the maximum price then it'll have to be Chelsea we sell to as EPL clubs have significantly stronger finances and are about the only clubs that can afford to over pay for players.
22 Jan 2025 23:11:44
I think Garnacho has not progressed because he has not had a proper coach. Conte is no fool and he wouldn't fork out £50m for no good reason. I fear we will sell Garnacho and then in a year or so wish wevhadnt.
23 Jan 2025 00:35:07
Well he would probably thrive in the Italian league just like Mctominay is but selling him wasn’t a mistake either.
23 Jan 2025 05:56:06
Good young player and not great and not from our academy. We got the boy at 17 from Spain. He is average in build up play. we can do better.
23 Jan 2025 08:46:18
Kvaratshkelia is by no means world class. He's good but not world class.
23 Jan 2025 14:02:04
Shappy, Kvaratshkelia's price was 'low' as his contract is short. By the end of the season he'd be able to sign a pre-contract for another club.
Need to dig a little beyond the obvious and ask why sometimes.
23 Jan 2025 14:56:24
Speaking of fees city seem to have opened the purse and spending big. they will miss qualification for the next phase of cl if they don't win their last game and finish outside the top 24. Would love to see that. given where they are coming from their season is worst than our so far.
24 Jan 2025 14:19:14
Ahmad,
It really isn’t though is it, they are 5th in the league, 12 off the top, we are 13th in the league 12 off 19th, you’ll struggle to convince me our season has been better than theirs.
20 Jan 2025 13:11:03
I'm all for investing in youth, but blimey, we are going for it.
Courtesy of the money machine -
Dorgu would cost Man Utd close to £30m
Latest from Sky in Italy:
Lecce would want at least £25.4m-£29.6m (€30m-€35m) for 2-year-old full-bacl Patrick Dorgu in the January window.
20 Jan 2025 14:08:38
They really are starting young if he is 2. The world's most expensive toddler.
20 Jan 2025 14:31:37
Waiting 16 years until he is allowed to join is ridiculous!
20 Jan 2025 16:07:36
Good at dribbling apparently.
20 Jan 2025 18:02:14
Will give Bruno a run for his money with tantrums.
20 Jan 2025 11:12:50
Antony loan agreed and we are in talks with leave for LWB Patrick dorgu. Hopefully it's a deal for now and we aren't pre signing him for the summer. We are poor in the wide areas and short of options so a move like this makes sense. Any of the Ed's have a profile on the player? Thanks.
20 Jan 2025 11:45:14
That should read lecce not leave. Apologies.
20 Jan 2025 11:09:24
Don't bite my head off. but is there a world where Amorim is gone in the summer? I'm not blaming him for where we are, but we have seen that Ratcliffe has an itchy trigger finger and if results and performances stay the same do we think he will pull it? For the record I'm against such a move but if we have seen anything since Ineos came in, it's that you can't predict what they are going to do! '.
20 Jan 2025 13:04:09
You only have to look at Nice and the Galtier and Favre sackings to see that it is possible.
Personally I don’t think that is the right thing to do with United who need stability and the players to understand they cannot throw another manager under the bus.
Get players the manager wants in the summer and judge him on the progress made in the 2025/ 26 season.
Personally I hope he starts giving a run out for the academy players between now and the end of the year with space from a number of players moving on this month.
20 Jan 2025 15:07:52
I don’t quite understand why we brought in a manager who plays a certain style of football if the club’s management had no intention of signing at least one or two players who are capable of playing said style of football.
I quite like Amorim and think he will come good if properly backed, but if results don’t improve soon (which I don’t think they will if we don’t bring in a few signings this window), I do think that there’s a very real possibility of him being gone before the end of the season.
24 Jan 2025 08:06:41
100% he’s not winning football matches.
19 Jan 2025 08:25:17
Looks like antonty will be going on loan to betis.
19 Jan 2025 09:16:23
Fingers crossed with an obligation to buy! Simon Stone (T1) tweeted saying they were advancing well so hopefully soon.
19 Jan 2025 10:03:26
Surely he has to go down as our absolute worst transfer of all time?
He looked talented and promising for Ajax, but we absolutely had our pants pulled down on the price. Apparently Bayern Munich were interested in him for around 35m which is around what we valued him at as well. The fact that someone at the club gave the green light to pay 85m a whopping 50m more than we valued him at not only needs firing but surely investigating for fraud or embezzlement. That surely cannot be a completely legitimate deal.
They literally agreed to pay two and a half times as much as they thought he was worth.
On the pitch he's been such a disappointment, literally you could go to 15 or 16 Championship clubs and sign a better winger from them.
Clearly he needed the very structured team play that Ajax produce along with being in the best team in the league which is filled with mostly second rate teams for him to look good.
The moment he played in a league where you have a lot of quality players across the league, in a team that doesn't dominate, and with players around him who cannot carry him or cover for his weaknesses he has been absolutely abysmal.
Yes he works hard off the ball, but that's about all you can say as a positive for him. Which let's be honest, working hard for the team should be a minimal expectation not something to be given a pat on the back for.
On the ball he is slow and indecisive, he has no end product, he is quick enough over short distances but lacks real pace, especially over longer distances, he doesn't have any clever skills (other than being a crap ballerina), he has no right foot to speak of, and he is easily brushed off the ball.
Antony along with Sancho and maybe Zirkzee (we'll see) should stand as a warning about signing players from teams that have a very distinct identity and playing style/ system. It creates a side that is greater than the sum of its parts, making individual players look far better than they actually are.
Unless you play in more or less exactly the same way then you run the risk of them not being able to bring that level of form from their current team to your side.
19 Jan 2025 19:02:37
Think we should insist on a different clause, that they take Onana for free or the deal’s off! Rather have friggin Captain Birdseye in goal!
20 Jan 2025 04:28:31
For me he is the worst buy with sanchez and sancho. all 3 were pretty awful. Hope he goes and hope rash goes as it looks like no way to repair things. Cas needs to go too as he is hardly playing now any minutes. Crazy how we paid that kind of money for these players.
21 Jan 2025 05:46:51
Okay so label me confused. We should steer away from players from a team that play a distinct style but we want players that can play a distinct style. How will we know if they can play RA style if they are not already?
Seems an ongoing risk to me.
