A quick question for the Editors please.
Growing reports the club are looking to sign a RB this Summer, any truth to these or are the club content with existing options including those in the youth setup?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - As has previously been explained the club want back up to AW-B.}

25 Feb 2021 17:43:26
Good old paper talk, apparently we are selling Henderson and buying Donnarumma.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed077's Note - Donnarumma's contract is up this summer and he hasn't yet signed a new deal at Milan just yet. I fully expect him to sign a new deal unless something goes wrong in a massive way.

Guess who is his agent though?

It's non other than Man Utd's favourite super agent, Mino Raiola himself. Rest you can figure what's coming I would hope.}

25 Feb 2021 22:07:25
Milan having their best season in about 10 years, but if your Donnarumma you want to be winning trophies, even if he is only 22 would you be thinking I would be better off somewhere else.

Agree0 0Disagree

26 Feb 2021 05:48:12
Grimslives so you think he's going to come to us? We already have Henderson who is 23, knows the PL and has experience under his belt. Why would anyone in their sane mind replace him for someone outside of the PL who is talented for sure but not guaranteed to succeed. It's a huge risk.

It's all just paper talk trying to prop up United in the headlines and probably he gets a improved contract in the process.

Agree0 0Disagree

26 Feb 2021 08:20:24
LPU, Donnarumma has huge experience for his age and is the better keeper of the two

Henderson is a bigger risk imo. He’s not convinced he can be better than DDG yet, whereas Donnarumma probably has.

Agree0 0Disagree

26 Feb 2021 09:47:38
Wazza it's PL experience I am talking about. How is Henderson a bigger risk? He's already shown that he's a much better all round keeper than DeGea.

Donnarumma might have huge experience as you say but the PL is a different thing all together. Watched some youtube highlights and he doesn't look much convincing with his handling and not sure if he commands his box well and is good in the air. He reminds me of DeGea with his shot stopping ability but some times seems to parry the ball into danger areas. He probably isn't ready for the PL and has lots to improve in my opinion.

Anyone seen enough of Donnarumma to suggest he is ready for the PL?

Agree0 0Disagree

26 Feb 2021 12:54:12
LPU I don’t agree for a second that DH has shown he’s a better keeper than DDG.

Dave looks past his best but he was considered the best in the world. Henderson has done nothing yet to earn such praise.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed077's Note - I too dont think Dean Henderson is a better GK than DDG just yet. However it's very easy to see that DH is a better footballer than DDG and is more suited suited to the way United play nowadays.}

26 Feb 2021 14:12:36
I mean except by the looks of it be the difference between Sheffield United getting a top half finish or relegated.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed077's Note - I don't think it's fair to say DH is the sole difference between Sheffield Utd finishing in the top half last season and being rock bottom this. Ramsdale not shot ng their style of play and frankly being an inferior GK is certainly a contributing factor and so is the large number of injuries their defence has suffered. For example O'Conell being out injured for the whole of the season has unsettled their defence quite a bit and they have had to play a near retirement Jagielka fair few amount of times due to various players I defence getting injured. They are so reliant on their system and their first 11 that even 2or 3 players missing can completely make them very weak. And they have been very unlucky in most games too.

But yeah DH would most likely have helped them get a few more points I think}

25 Feb 2021 06:53:42
Certainly sounds as though several European clubs are starting to go about Summer transfer business. A question for the editors please, have United began any enquiries and in particular, has there been any contact with Dortmund again re: Sancho? Thank you.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United messed everybody around last year and he has again been offered elsewhere recently. If Manchester United want him they are going to have to agree a deal, primarily with his agent, before the summer. Borussia Dortmund have financial issues and they will worsen if they do not qualify for the Champions League next season. They will have a new coach next season and have chosen one who will look to develop from within and look to youngsters to bring in to work with the more experienced players, but their expectation is that they will need to raise considerable funds through selling players - and they have a lengthy list of those who will be available including the likes of Haaland and Sancho. At this point in time I do not believe that Manchester United are trying to strike a deal for the player.}

25 Feb 2021 12:41:48
Ed, do you think MU will look at Haaland this summer?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - No, the amateurs have likely blown that chance.}

25 Feb 2021 11:00:29
So insightful Ed002 - thank you.
I can’t get my head around the fact you offer this info for free? Inspiring stuff. Are donations put into keeping the site live etc?

{Ed033's Note - yes.

24 Feb 2021 00:06:28
Hi eds I read a couple of weeks ago on the bbc website that we were interested in raphina from leeds. Do you know if there is any truth in this. Thanks in advance
Niall.

Believable1 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Raphinha (RW) Leeds are expecting offers in the summer and want Michael Olise to replace him should a significant offer be accepted. I am not aware of any approach or declaration of interest from Liverpool or Manchester United at this time.

24 Feb 2021 11:11:01
I think he would be a very good option, has a good relationship with Bruno as well from their time at Sporting apparently.

I often think we are too easily seduced by fancy names or "big money" players playing in foreign leagues, when actually there are some potentially very good options playing closer to home who could prove excellent signings. Raphinha, Ismalia Sarr, Emi Buendia and Pedro Neto have all had good seasons playing in England and would not cost half of what Sancho would while could be considered less risky as they have actually played professionally in England.

Agree6 0Disagree

24 Feb 2021 19:25:46
Sancho would have no problem in England imo, but I don't think he's the right player for us and if he doesn't hit the ground running the pressure from the media will weigh heavy on him.

I really like neto he will be a top player for years to come, if we were to spend decent money on a winger I don't think we should look past him.

I watch a lot of wolves as they were my grandads team and he impresses me more everytime I see him play. Its only a matter of time before he get a move to a top team.

Agree1 0Disagree

25 Feb 2021 09:46:39
Danny, I don't think Sancho would have an issue moving back home to England. I mean it's his home country after all, so he won't have issues like language, or culture barriers that can make it difficult for other players.

I don't for one second believe his current numbers of goals and assists would be as high in the EPL as they are in the Bundesliga. At least not initially, maybe in a few years when he really starts to fulfill his potential. Ultimately the quality of defending in the EPL is far superior to the Bundesliga.

However, for me while I think he would stylistically he would be a good fit. I'm not sure that we can afford to spend 80m+ which it will cost to sign him. In my opinion we need a top class CB and a CDM. Those two positions will cost us the best part of 100m if not more. If there is money for a third signing them I doubt it'll be enough for Sancho. So for me signing Sancho means comprising on the signings that we really need.

I also really rate Pedro Neto, I think if someone doesn't snap him up soon then he'll be a 70m+ signing in two years time.

Agree3 0Disagree

{Ed077's Note - Isn't Pedro Neto an LW who can play RW. Man Utd are better off going for an RW/RM who can cover other positions not the other way round.}

25 Feb 2021 10:36:15
Ed077, Neto is comfortable right across the frontline, at No.10 and even as a No.8. He tends to play on the left for Wolves more often than not because Adama Traore and Daniel Podence play best off the right, and in Traore's case can only really play off the right.

However, I see Neto's flexibility and comfortability on either wing or as a No.10 as a huge benefit. It would allow us to sign a player who can play on thr right but without stifling Amad or Greenwood who'd also look to get minutes. While he can cover Rashford on the left if we either needed to rest him or play him as a striker. He's better than James and more consitent on the left than Martial. He is also capable of playing in the No.10 role to a high level giving us a genuine option to play and rest Bruno.

Very few players can play to a high standard, score and create goals from both wings or the No.10 position with near equal impact in all three positions.

Agree2 0Disagree

{Ed077's Note - So what you are saying is Neto is a LW who is very versatile and can play on the right or through the middle. Neto, no doubt has been really impressive this season but he is (or has been) playing mainly as a LW.

Man Utd has a first choice LW whose primary position is LW but is versatile enough to cover at RW or CF, in Rashford. It would then make more sense in going after a player whose best position is off the right hand side but can cover other positions ideally. For example Raphinha at Leeds.
But that's just my opinion.}

25 Feb 2021 14:41:10
Ed077, Raphinha would also be a great option.

Pedro Neto before moving to Wolves has played primarily on the RW, or as a second striker, similar to Joao Felix. But at Wolves due to them having Podance and Traore who almost exclusively play RW, and with Jota leaving the obvious gap in the first team was on the left at Wolves which is where he has tended to play.

So far this season he has played on the left 11 times.
On the right 5 times.
as a striker 4 times.
as a No.10 on 3 occasions.
And as a No.8 twice.

So very versatile. To be honest with what will likely be a limited budget this summer we are unlikely to be able to buy a wide player, a back up for Bruno and a striker. Yet signing someone like Neto who can play most positions with little to no drop off in performance would mean we are stronger across the front line by only signing one player.

Agree2 0Disagree

{Ed077's Note - Jota was replaced in the wolves side , by Neto which led to his sale. Not the other way around. Neto had 8 senior career appearances before moving to Wolves so your conclusion about him being a RW primarily before signing for Wolves is frankly untrue because of the sheer lack of game time.

Neto is having a really good season and might be a really good player for Man Utd to look at but he has played more times at LW than RW which is a fact yours "stats" back up Shaps.}

25 Feb 2021 20:45:43
Sarr and Buendia drew so much laughter when they were suggested last season. Are they any more desirable now after a year in the Championship? Buendia by all accounts is doing well but Sarr doesn’t seem to be setting it alight.

Agree0 0Disagree

26 Feb 2021 10:43:15
Spenno, Buendia is probably the best player in the championship this season and a big reason for Norwich being 7 points clear at the top currently. He is 100% good enough for the EPL, although most people on here could probably guess that I'd say that.

Sarr has been solid if unspectacular, on balance of play he has probably been Watford's best player. Currently they sit 3rd 7 points off of top spot.

Ultimately though football is a team game and many aspects of that will impact how effect a player can be within that team.

I think Sarr has the ability to step up in a better team. Is he good enough for us? You'll never know unless he gets given the chance. We've signed top players who have flopped and young unknowns who have become stalwarts of the side.

If I'm honest I wouldn't have either of Buendia or Sarr as first choice if money was no object. But the reality is that we are going to have to be clever with our money this summer and prioritise positions other than RW. In that situation then putting talented players who are already settled in England and tested in the EPL makes a lot of sense, especially as they will be half the price of a Jadon Sancho, or proven in the EPL and less injury prone than a Ousemane Dembele or Kingsley Coman and would significantly less on wages.

In an ideal world we would make 4-5 signings and all of them would be top class players. Jules Kounde, Declan Rice, Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and a top RB.

The reality is we might be able to afford 1 or 2 of those players and maybe 1 or 2 cheaper alternatives to those players if we are lucky. So it all comes down to who we can get, and which positions we prioritise.

Question for Ed002 if you're about.

I saw you say on the Liverpool page that Nikola Milenkovic's reps are keen for him to move to us. There seems to be a lot of links in Italy about it today, so do you think this is one we currently working on and should be able to complete?

Cheers.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - I know nothing more than what I explained - there would be others ahead of him for MU.}

22 Feb 2021 19:36:08
From what I've seen of him (which isn't loads) I would say he strikes me as a great "B" list defender. He is solid and dependable but not great at anything in particular. The guy you pair with a world class CB rather than a world class one himself.

Agree2 0Disagree

22 Feb 2021 20:04:41
Saw the Milenkovic links but surely he's a 'second' CB signing only. Torres first choice? I can see us in for 2 CBs if the penny finally drops that between Jones / Bailly / Tuanzebe that's only actually one player though its costing us about £250k a week!

Agree0 0Disagree

23 Feb 2021 11:17:33
I think Ed 001 and I discussed Milenkovic and Dias before Utd got Harry. I still rate Milenkovic quite high. Utd can probably get him at half what was paid for Maguire and significantly improve our defense. He is still young and can develop into a world class CB!

Happy Sunday everyone.
To one of the Editors if I may.
De Gea and Henderson, I cannot see both staying at the club next season. A novice decision to keep both this year especially given the money both are earning.

Will one of them be moved on in the Summer and if so who? Are there any sides interested?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Manchester UNited are already losing two Gs this summer and will look to keep both.}

21 Feb 2021 11:30:26
DDG gets paid a fortune and still has 2 years left on his contract, who would pay a fee and match his wages? DDG will probably leave on a free in 2023.

Agree1 0Disagree

21 Feb 2021 11:38:33
With Romero and Grant leaving in the summer it will be difficult to allow either a player like DDG or potentially our future GK Henderson leave.

What would have been a smarter plan for this season would have been to have loaned Henderson back out to Sheffield United or even another EPL club this season. Then sign an experienced back up keeper who is good enough to challenge for the No.1 spot or at least fill in without a huge drop off in quality while allowing Romero to leave. Maybe someone like Jasper Cillessen who isn't first choice at Valencia but has experience at top clubs. Then in the summer of 2021 we could have allowed DDG to leave and brought back Henderson to compete with the other keeper for the No.1 spot.

Many thanks, Ed002!

Didnt we quote £6million to Sheffield Utd to loan him for the season and they said no.

22 Feb 2021 13:36:41
Romero should have been given a go at number one. De gea is allover the place pretty much every game. Maguire, Lindelof and De gea is not a good mix and they are awful together to be honest. I can't see how we can keep both keepers happy either. We've handled this so bad it's unreal ED02 is spot on when he says we are run by amateurs. Absolutely clueless!

At the risk of sounding like I am pulling random names out of thin air, kindly indulge me on this one Ed 002. Do we have any interest in Matthew Hope from Schalke, and is he the kind of player Utd needs?

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - Matthew Hoppe (S) American youngster has been advised to stay in Germany when Schalke likely sell him in the summer as it will be in his best interests. However, he has attracted interest from a number of sides including Spurs and the feeling is in the States that FSG might look to having him recruited for Liverpool as he is one of the up and coming American players. Certainly clubs have been scouting him and recent form has been good. I don't see that he would be a starter for any of the leading clubs and unless paying well over the odds a Work Permit may be an issue in England.}

17 Feb 2021 12:46:24
Cheers Ed.

17 Feb 2021 03:19:45
Ed's do we still have an interest in Benoît Badiashile (CB) or are we looking at a more experienced option in the summer?

Hi again Ed002.
Pau Torres the preferred target as I understand it from previous posts.
The Seville CB Kounde is being reported as also being a new target for OGS, anything in this from what you know?

17 Feb 2021 13:05:25
Here are some of the recent updates on CBs as provided by Ed002, to whom I would like to say a big THANK YOU.

{Ed002's Note - Pau Torres (CB) Manchester City have him as an option. Manchester United have him as first choice but only if sufficient sales are made. Barcelona has a sustained interest but price will likely be an issue and they may look to horse trade some players - but little will become clear before the election is completed. Bayern Munich have him as one of three primary targets to fill the two CB slots they need to address in the summer.

Ben White (CB) an alternative to Pau Torres for Manchester United, but seen as expensive because of the "English premium". Spurs have sustained interest but the funding will go on other priorities. Liverpool could look to white to boost their HG quota if they opt for aan expensive addition. Brighton will look to hang on to him.

Sergio Ramos (CB) PSG wanted a January agreement to take him as a Free Agent in the summer but the player is apparently reluctant to commit just yet. Real Madrid want to extend his contract but want to reduce the package he currently gets to help their quest to cut costs - if that gap can somehow be resolved it is the most likely solution. Interest from both the Far East and the Middle East is not attractive for the player. Milan offer a potential option because of tax advantages in Italy - but they will probably add Fikayo Tomori and it is likely the second CB they are looking for will be younger. Whilst the Premier League would provide an interesting challenge for the player, at just about 35 years old with significant wage demands it makes little sense for the clubs. I am not aware of any approach from Manchester United and would expect them to look at a younger long term solution.

Jules Kounde (CB) Sevilla rejected a significant offer from Manchester City last summer and Monchi has confirmed that Manchetser City remain keen still. He was recommended to Manchester United by an advisor but there has not been any approach just yet - and others seem more likely at this time. Real Madrid were the other side who were keen last summer and they are looking to add two CBs this summer with one agreed in principle, the other will be one of four on their shortlist which includes Jules Kounde. With one of those four likely not obtainable it would then come down to balancing the books with other sales and purchases.

Ibrahima Konate (CB) could emerge as an option for first choice for Liverpool in the summer - Liverpool have been talking with his agent but whether or not Konate has been discussed in detail is not known, but his agent offered a different player to Liverpool. RBL will want to hang on to him as they will lose Upamecano in the summer. Money would possibly be an issue for Liverpool and any further illegal approaches to RBL players would no doubt result in a complaint now. Expect interest from Spurs as well and possibly Manchester United but he is far from first choice for them. Chelsea have shown no interest in him to date.

Raphael Varane (CB) and that is about it for CBs. If he does not sign a renewal he will be sold in the summer - possibly leaving Real Madrid needing to add three CBs. Manchester United have other targets but could be tempted. Do not be surprised to see Spurs rejig their summer plans to buy him. Mr Mourinho will look to a way to sign Varane for Spurs in the summer. The player wants a new challenge and PSG will likely push for him in their quest for a leading French player. }.

17 Feb 2021 13:45:37
Really like the look of Jules Kounde out of this lot. But then again he is an 'emerging' talent, relatively inexperienced in a weak league, and in the notoriously physical PL, I wonder if a more established player is required.

Another one to add courtesy of ED002. Again a Big Thank you to him for his great insights.

{Ed002's Note - Nikola Milenkovic (CB) Inter Milan, Manchester United and Juventus have all expressed and interest in Milenkovic who Fiorentina will possibly be open to selling for €50M-€60M in the summer. His representatives are pushing him toward Manchester United who already have a lengthy list of targets and their prior interest could return - he was an alternative to Maguire. I am not aware of any interest from Liverpool at this time. }.

19 Feb 2021 14:52:26
From the list only Pau Torres/ Benoît Badiashile are left footed CBs and exactly what we need.

Watched a few youtube videos of these players and not much convinced about Jules Kounde, he looks like a attacking CB who is probably more suited to a fluid attacking team. Both Pau Torres and Nikola Milenkovic look better options for us. Nikola Milenkovic reminds me of Vidic the way he plays, gets stuck into his opponent and is more aggressive than Torres.
