Hey eds/all
Hope all are good. just a quick question eds if ye are avout and get time to answer. i know things can change under different circumstances etc but is ancelotti the favourite to take over from lvg rather than giggs? or does it depend on if it happend in the summer or before it? that's if he does get the boot of coarse. do ye think united will make any signings in january with the talk of a LB and forward being wanted? thanks guys.

{Ed001's Note - favourite in what way? Bookies are the ones that make favourites mate, I am not sure that I have any idea who they are putting as favourite. If you mean who is most likely, as I have said before, if Giggs was seen as ready, LvG would be gone already, they want him to be the manager. Ancelotti is interested in the job, very keen in fact, so far he has not been offered anything though.}

As per my post in Banter - GET HIM IN!

@Ed001

Very interesring. So what you are saying is that the plan at United is to have Giggs as the successor to LVG?

Someone with no experience of being manager, hasn't shown any tactical know how and is the only common coach from both the disastrous managements of Moyes and LVG simply cannot be the next United manager.

It would purely be an emotional choice made with heart rather than brain. We need a calm unifying figure with proven experience, especially in Europe where we need to start thinking about catching up and surpassing Liverpool's European cup haul. That should be the next step at United and Pep or Ancelotti are the only people who can take us there.

I would prefer Ancelotti, since i really enjoyed watching his Milan side in Europe, his Chelsea team played well and he did an unbelievable job at maintaining dressing room peace at Real Madrid, something nobody else has managed.

I suspect the club will wait a game or two more to see if the situation improves since they won't want to destabilize plans in place or a top 4 challenge, but if the latter appears under threat, LVG will be let go just like Moyes was.

{Ed001's Note - they want to bring through a former player as manager, it is not Giggs only, it is just he is the only one who was even in the running until now. It is a financial decision as much as emotional, it is about the thought of the fans getting behind him and buying merchandise etc. So exploitation of emotions, rather than the emotion driving the choice.}

Surely that is financial suicide though? Appointing a manager with no previous experience for a job of such huge importance and scale?

The costs for United failing to qualify for the UCL againare huge and the club need to keep winning if they are to be markettable. If he had a proven record elsewhere then fine but he is clearly not ready and won't be until he has independently managed somewhere instead of being an assistant like he is now.

Appointing Ancelotti before Bayern starts pushing for him seems like the right thing to do to me, not just in a footballing sense but a financial and commercial as well. He has also managed and kept happy two of the biggest superstars in Kaka and Ronaldo and certainly has a lot of pulling power. With the club seeking a galactico type signing, Ancelotti makes perfect sense.

{Ed001's Note - that is the joy of having people making decisions who are purely business people.}

Ed001, if you'd be so kind, what's your opinion on Leverkusen's manager, Roger Schmidt? I've heard very promising things about him but I don't really follow Leverkusen so can't comment on his style etc. I always enjoy your views when you share them and I'd be interested to read your opinion on him :)
(Thought I'd post this here since it's a thread about possible options as manager)

{Ed001's Note - I like him a lot, I watched a few Leverkusen games over the course of the season as Ed002 mentioned him a while back. They play good football, or have done the times I watch them. Similar to the high intensity style of Klopp. They do look a very good team under him, I would like to see what he could do with a bit of cash to spend. He can certainly get Chicarito scoring!}

Just get LVG out, Ancelloti in for rest of the season and if he does well which let's face it this season would have to be 4 th place or better and a good FA cup run, then give it him full time or get pep in during the summer. LVG out soon though!

Thanks for that, Ed! :-) I'm not one of the Chelsea fans that want Mourinho out, quite the opposite in fact. I'm really hoping he doesn't get sacked. The players should realise they can't just start sulking when they don't get what they want 100%.
However if he does go, I hope the club look to a manager with Schmidt's profile. I've seen them play some good games, but I haven't watched them consistently. Their demolition of Gladbach on the weekend was mighty impressive though.

red faith. people are constantly saying we should get a united manager and someone who knows the club and its values. who better than giggs?

not saying he is ready for management but every appointment is a risk.
