Just seem on Liverpool page from our good friend Ed2 that Kasper Schmiechel is one of three keepers we are looking at for the summer, I'd be perfectly happy with that.

Hmmm, I think he is a good keeper, but not a world class one. Leicester are flying but defensively they have been poor, and a big part of that is down to organisation which the keeper should play a big part in.

I think there are better options available, and feel the romanticising aspect of having Kasper play for us is possibly clouding peoples view of what he would actually bring.

Casper is a good keeper with good distribution, much like David De Gea.
Personally, and this is assuming DDG leaves, I'd go for Jack Butland. a very good young keeper with good all round ability. opinion only.

Id prefer buttland as well.

Spot on Shappy. Butland as keeper and Stones as CB have to be the 2 priority purchases. Assuming DDG goes of course which is surely nailed on.

Why would Kasper play for us when the team he is on will most likely play in the Champions League . Or come to play for us when we have a lame duck manager or most likely a new manager?

Steve, because despite our form we are still the biggest football club in England and why would he turn down to play at the club that his father was a legend at?

Just because we're in poor form, doesn't make us a small time club.

Players still go to Liverpool despite no trophies for so long.

I see people going on about John Stones but he is definitely not what we need in my opinion. Makes a hell of a lot of mistakes and is a similar to defender to Smalling. We need a warrior type like vidic to compliment Smalling.

Where is DDG going in the summer? Are you expecting Kasper to sit on the bench.

We have a warrior type, Phil Jones when fit his defensive contribution and defensive actions per game is up the with the best of them. Unfortunatly he seems to have injury issues. I'd sell Smalling as we'd get a decent fee and buy Stones and a player like Laporte. You'd then have Rojo and Jones for cover.

Weggy, sadly on the pitch we have finished 7th,4th, and most likely 5th/ 6th. On the pitch, in the dugout, and in the talent pool, we are not contenders for any trophies. We have been mediocre three years in a row. It is time to stop living in the past and realise the trouble United are truly in.

Steve
If Leicester City finish 14th in 2015 and then top the league table a year later, with very little financial input, and a new manager, surely that shows what is possible?
If Leicester City can make those changes and improvements in under a year, are we expecting too much for our own club, with bigger pulling power and massive financial clout to do the same.

Weggy is right to say what he did. We are Manchester United and can match a lot of players ambitions and more importantly we can give players what they want financially to be able to compete with Leicester, despite where they finish.
I saw United fail year after year to stop the Liverpool dominance in the 80's. That doesn't mean a club with our money just gives up hope and throws the towel next year because we are not successful.

Despite where we finish this season and despite who's in charge at the beginning next season, i will always hope United have a better season and improve in the next season. Leicester prove this is possible by some great signings and changing manager.

Just to add, if United want Kasper and dangle 80 grand in front of him, do you really think he will say no?

Leicester have had a great season but I can see them returning to average next season. European football will test their squad depth and they have the threat of the possible departure of some of the star performers that propelled them there in the first place. The likes of Mahrez, Kante and Vardy will be on the radar of the clubs that pay higher wages and we all know money talks.

As for Kasper, for me he's a decent keeper but I'd fear he's not at the level to match the huge weight of expectation that would be magnified because of his surname.

Butland would be my preference but in all honesty whoever we signed out of realistic targets it'd be a step down from DDG imo.

If Leicester manage to continue their run and at least finish in top 4 it would be fantastic. They have plenty of money and will be looking to significantly invest and with champions league football they will be able to attract a higher calibre of player. They will have to buy smart and to keep hold of their top players. If they achieve that which I think they will, then I don't see them returning to being an average side any time soon.

Angelred, do you not think the likes of Mahrez, Kante and Vardy won't get their heads turned by being able to double their wages by moving on? They've recruited well on a budget and deserve to be where they are, but recruiting well on a budget is not a sustainable long term model. I'd guess they'll lose a key player or two and with (deserved) European football will be mid table next year. Happy to be proved wrong and would hold my hands up if so, but also tbh won't remember who disagreed with me this year to come back and say I told you so should I be right anyway.
