Are this mornings reports, about JM close to agreeing a deal to become are next manager true.

No idea how reliable they are, but I my own opinion is that he will be the next manager.

The talk about Mourinho died down a bit, we win a couple of matches and play reasonably well, all of a sudden the Mourinho rumours ramp up again . It's almost like Mourinho and his people are worrying that things might turn around at United so they need to keep the pressure on.

Bilko!, I had the same thought. But given my objections to Mourinho didn't want to he the one to point it out.

The reports are from Sky Italia, which is an odd source. We are not an Italian team, Mourinho isn't Italian nor is his agent. No one involved in any deal is likely to be Italian or based in Italy. So I'm wondering where they would pick this up from.

Yet Mourinho having worked in Italy is likely to have some friends in the media over there who would maybe be prepared to let slip some infomation for an old friend.

The timing doesn't make sense, the club didn't buckle and go for Mourinho when the night was darkest. Yet would sack LvG and bring in Mourinho on the back of two good results and arguably our two best performances this season.

It doesn't make sense.

unless united know lvg is going in the summer and are already working on the next manager.

True jred, but it still doesn't explain how people in Italy knew about it before anyone in this country.

There is no common link between Mourinho, his agent, Manchester United or anyone who works at United. None are Italian or have any tangible links to people in Italy. Seems odd.

who knows shaps there could be a common link we don't know about.
a lot of reports in italy allegri has agreed a 4 year deal with chelsea as well.

If results and performances continue to pick up and we got top four, the club might decide to go one more season of lvg with Giggs to take over after or possibly go with someone like Conte or Allegri for example . Mourinho may feel his best chance to land the job is to keep the pressure on lvg, keep the fans talking about him, chanting his name at games etc and force the club's hand.

8.) 04 Feb 2016
04 Feb 2016 14:06:45
i would be concered if a business as big as united was swayed by a story in the italian media.

9.) 04 Feb 2016
04 Feb 2016 14:10:41
We are not chanting his name at OT.

You know I agree that Jose has a bit of a deserved rep and is a bit of a wild card but he's also a winner of the modern game which is something LVG isn't proving to be. Something I've thought about is how Cantona settled when he joined Utd, he was a bit of a trouble maker a maverick if you like but he found his peace at Old Trafford and became the catalyst for the class of 92 to thrive upon. Isn't it possible Jose could thrive and settle there too? Lots of top players have been and gone at Utd that couldn't handle the pressure that being at Utd presents. I dunno I like the idea of Jose joining, he has passion and a sheer drive to win. I'd have Jose over Pep everyday, Jose knows the premier league and just as LVG has found we have one if not thee toughest league to win in.

Jred, I don't think the club would be swayed by a report in Italian media or any other media to he honest.

But it does keep his name at the fore front of fans minds. And as Ed002 has said the reaction of some fans has made people within the club rethink previous ideas.

As for Italian media reporting a possible deal for Allegri to Chelsea, well Allegri is Italian and is managing an Italian club. If Chelsea was to approach him there would he several people in Italy who could leak that info. So it makes sense it coming out in Italian press. Of course it could just be hogwash. I don't rate the integraty of the Itailan media as any better than our own.

shaps
i honestly don't think it is a big deal or very likely that jose is leaking storys to the italian media to keep his name in the fans mind because united beat derby and stoke .

sounds a bit daft to me but who knows?
allegri was just a bit of info, lot of talk about him going to chelsea.

i think lvg cards where marked when the ceo of addidas came out and questioned our style of play to be honest .

Matteo been slipping some inside info out 😉.

14.) 04 Feb 2016
04 Feb 2016 16:15:05
Personally, I think that LVG leaves at the end of the season - hopefully having achieved 4th again, and then Jose comes in as he will then have time to mould the squad how he wants it.

My opinion is that once Mourinho became available we were interested in him, however the board did not want to change manager mid season.

Considering Mourinho was coming off a bad stretch with Chelsea, and United were not enjoying the most fruitful of periods, combining the two (even with a January window) could have resulted in more poor results. This would have led to people questioning the board and Mourinho even more.

I believe Van Gaal is gone in the summer regardless of how he performs. Mourinho will be brought in and have a summer (interupted by the Euro's) to prepare (similar to LvG and the World Cup)

{Ed004's Note - I am not sure it's as black and white as that. I think there is a good chance Mourinho could become manager in the summer but there are a lot more factors to take into consideration. Personally I think lvg has until the end of the season to prove to the board he is the right man and there will be others interested or approached about the job imo such as conte, blanc, allegri etc}

16.) 04 Feb 2016
04 Feb 2016 16:52:10
Where does this Allegri link keep coming from. I know Ed002 mentioned it a while back, but it just doesn't seem logical to me that we would go with another manager with no experience of playing or managing here. Larry White makes sense as he has played here, Jose total sense for obvious reasons. The Italians like Conte and Allegri just doesn't add for some reason. I'd be quite happy with either though. We missed out on the best Italian, Ancelotti.

17.) 04 Feb 2016
04 Feb 2016 19:09:24
I would not be surprised by any turn of events at the minute. The quietness on Mourinho could be Because interest has gone or never there. or because it is a done deal and everyone's just sitting quietly. Mourinho wherever he goes next year will be refreshed and eager from his Break.
The Allegri thing to us may seem odd but we don't know what connections the clubs have across the world. and as 002 has said it is the long plan.
Others will be considered I believe. Conti I like but with the euros would be another later starter.
Lvg could turn it all around.
Who knows!

18.) 04 Feb 2016
04 Feb 2016 20:04:01
Well, the club need to do something about it, before we become a mid table team year in year out.

19.) 04 Feb 2016
04 Feb 2016 20:59:10
Allegri is playing some good stuff with Juve Shappy. I read before from ED002 that was suggested as being the LVG replacement in 2017 though I like many thought that script had been ripped up now.

I have a strange feeling LVG may see his contract out now lol.

20.) 04 Feb 2016
04 Feb 2016 23:02:09
Barring a miraculous change in events and footballing style, LVG is gone in the summer I think.

21.) 04 Feb 2016
04 Feb 2016 23:43:21
I think LVG will be gone the moment that a top four finish becomes mathematically impossible. Looking at our fixtures I think that will be after we lose away at Spurs on Saturday 9th April. Giggs will finish out the season and then we'll see a new manager come in in the summer.

I still think Jose is the best shout but can see Conte and Blanc being in with a shout too. Conte would be a close second choice although he wouldn't be able to come in until after the Euros which I think should be avoided (both Moyes and LVG started late and got off to poor starts as a result) .

22.) 05 Feb 2016
05 Feb 2016 00:46:44
Redseven,

After we lose at Spurs? Are we that defeatist that we are throwing away games before we have played them? I think if we win our next 2 games top 4 is very much a possibility, we are due a run of form.

23.) 05 Feb 2016

Why let hope get in the way of a good story GDS.

24.) 05 Feb 2016
05 Feb 2016 06:38:23
It was an Italian Journalist that had broke the information about Pep signing with City months and months ago. Perhaps it could be the same guy that is touting Jose to be at OT next year. In my eyes, perhaps we never bought anyone in January as the board are setting aside the cash for the new manager in the Summer.?! Who knows!

{Ed001's Note - no it was not, the story came from Qatar actually. Nothing to do with an Italian journalist.}

25.) 05 Feb 2016
05 Feb 2016 08:08:33
It was an italian journalist who broke the pep to bayern story if I remember right.

26.) 05 Feb 2016
05 Feb 2016 12:10:31
Ed001 first mentioned the Pep to City link (through a Dubai connection) nearly a year ago now. It wasn't until about 6 months ago that our press really picked up on it.
