Thats Jose just put Mata, Blind, Rojo and Schweinsteiger up for sale, i thought he might have kept Blind as a utillity man. He must be clearing the decks for more new faces let's hope there's a few more big names coming in.

{Ed004's Note - I'm hoping Schweinsteiger stays tbh. He showed us how good he can still be at the Euros}

Agreed Ed, he's got s lot of stick but I still think he's better than both Carrick and Schneiderlin.

{Ed004's Note - Reports are stating we are going to play a 433 next season. Ideally we will have Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Schneidlerin, Herrera, Pogba and one other for the 3 positions}

ED004 you seem confident of signing Pogba then.

{Ed004's Note - Not 100% confident just being optimistic hah}

Do you think Rooney could play in a 4-3-3?

He'd have to play as the lone striker and I just don't think he has the legs to play a position like that any more.

{Ed004's Note - He really has turned into the elephant in the room tbh. I worry we are going to shoehorn him in, to the detriment of the team and others}

It's a shame as he's been a good player for us over the years but he just looks knackered now, it would be nice for him just to retire but with the money he'd miss out on there is no way that'll happen.

We really did miss a turn with failing to get renato sanches he's gonae be twice the players pogbas going to be.

I've said it before but if I were Rooney's adviser I'd get him over to the USA ASAP. He still has enough quality to be a star in that league, will earn mega buck (which seems to be the priority), and would probably be a better life for the family (major assumption here) . He could really capitalise on the timing.

Let's face it the media over here and there will be doing all they can to avoid saying he is no longer made for the best league. It will be 2 years earlier than expected and will mean sponsorships galore, stardom that would eclipse Beckham, Gerrard etc.

Every game he plays (or doesn't) from now on in is only going to hamper his reputation, get out of town whilst you can because even staunch Rooney backers are starting to admit he isn't necessarily going to be a starter next season. If I were Schweiny I'd do the same, but he still has something to offer us if used properly.

It's got nothing to do with money he won't retire/ leave before he gets the goal scoring record.

ED004 in hoping we sign. People complain about £100 million fee or whatever it will be, it's not my money so I don't care. He's definitely played better for Juve than France, but Messi has played better for Barcelona than Argentina. It's all about the players around you at a club.

{Ed004's Note - More importantly the role you are given to play. Don't think anyone would ever describe Pogba as a holding midfielder}

Wow ed I've been critical of Rooney but at least I never called him an elephant😀😀😀.

I highly doubt all these will leave, maybe a couple but I can see Blind and schweiny staying. Blind played far too well to get sold whatever position he plays he's a solid player to bring on and I'm positive mourinho sees this. As for Bastian what's the point in selling him and getting a small fee? We'll keep him, he's a very influential character in the dressing room even after only one season. He's been there and done it all before. Fingers crossed we do the business in the transfer market.

ED004 Pogba is 100% a box to box midfielder. He would be wasted playing as a holding midfielder. I think we would have to either buy a holding midfielder as Carrick is too old and Schweinstieger and Schneiderlin aren't effective playing that role, which only leaves Blind. Maybe give TFM a chance and accept that he'll make mistakes.

There maybe some truth in the Matuidi rumours.

{Ed004's Note - I don't see Matuidi as a holding midfielder though. If Matuidi rumours are true and Mourinho is after both then I'd hope he adapt to playing on the right side of a midfield 3. Leaving Matuidi and Herrera for the right side, Pogba and Rooney for the left with Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and Carrick for the deeper role. It would leave us with phenomenal options but even without Matuidi we still have a Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger who can compete with Herrera. I don't think Mourinho will spend that much on a player and not play him in his best position.
Also think Mensah will be our upgraded version of Ivanovic. One hell of a powerful back line with Smalling, Bailly and Shaw}

Guys like Blind and Valencia are so useful in a squad. Two players, who if they're starting on the bench, can come on and play in a multitude of roles, freeing up space on the bench for another one or two players.

Would love to see that lineup.

I think that role would get the best out of Herrera, letting him get into attacking positions where he can play our quicker players in behind the defence, but with Pogba as the main man to carry the ball forward out of midfield at pace and support counter-attacks.

Could the 4-3-3 be with an attacking midfielder and 2 holding midfielders? If so then rooney could fit the role well. He would not be playing so deep and would get more chances in front goal, this would likely take some of the pressure off him to score. He could fit in as a player playing a similar role to that of Payet and be a strong link between the holding midfielders and attacking 3 with his passing ability.

Noucamp99 couldn't agree more, they are great value for money. I'm not sure Mourinho thinks that way though.

I think we could see Mkhitaryan play as part of a midfield 3 in addition to playing on the right.

What part of 'Rooney is a forward' did people not get?

Dunno mort. We will just have to wait and see what Jose does.
Stevie I would keep both if those as utility players and their input throughout a season should not be underestimated.
