Romero has signed a new 4 year contract. Number 1 if DeGea goes me thinks with Pereira as back up.

You can't go from DDG to Romero, at a club like Man Utd, we need world class.

2.) 16 Jul 2017
16 Jul 2017 21:23:32
I thought romero was looking at leaving due to wanting to be first choice keeper.

So does this mean that DDG may be on the move?

Obviously romero wasnt quoted saying that he wants to be first choice so its all just rumour.

16 Jul 2017 21:38:04
Wayne, out of available keepers, who is better than Romero?

4.) 16 Jul 2017
16 Jul 2017 21:47:16
I think he deserves the contract and nothing more to read into it than that.

5.) 16 Jul 2017
16 Jul 2017 23:14:14
I hope DeGea doesn't go, but if it is his wish to leave then I wouldn't be against Romero getting his chance, as I don't see any better out there that are available.

6.) 16 Jul 2017
16 Jul 2017 23:25:49
personally if de gea does go I think schmeichel would be perfect for us.

7.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 01:33:17
Dont see why anyone thinks we need a new keeper. Romero has conceded 10 goals in 28 games and helped us win the Europa League? I think that makes him more than qualified.

8.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 07:37:54
Schmeichel is a good but not great keeper and all the very best title winning teams are built on a strong defensive base with a top top keeper. When teams face a top keeper they know they have to do something extra special to beat him and over the course of a season a top keeper has a huge input into winning trophies.

9.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 08:28:28
What does world class even mean? Romero is Argentina''s No1 (a country with much better team than England) and has played in Copa Americas and World Cups. He's more than good enough if Dave wants to go home.

10.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 08:51:37
Hart schmeichel etc are not an improvement on romero. Only 2 prem keepers i would consider as improving on romero is coutois and loris. Definately would prefer woody to concentrate on other areas.

11.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 09:03:51
I'd be perfectly happy with big serge as #1.

12.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 09:15:09
There's no way Romero is good enough to be our first choice keeper. If he was he'd have teams knocking the door down to sign him while he was sat on the bench. He looks nervous catching the ball and is only a couple of mistakes away from the masses turning on him.

13.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 10:25:09
Romero is a very good goalkeeper. Who is available who is definitely an improvement? Donnarumma just signed a new deal and will be in Milan for at least another year or more. Oblak is unlikely to be allowed to leave for similar reasons for Atletico not selling Greizmann to us earlier in the window.
Ederson looks a great prospect but is at City now. Buffon isn't for sale and would never leave Juve now. Courtois won't leave Chelsea. Lloris won't be allowed to leave Spurs.

So name me a better goalkeeper than Romero who is available this summer?

He has a very good record with us, he is yet to lose a game having won 14 of the 18 games he has played for us. While only conceding 6 goals, and keeping 12 clean sheets.
He has played in a World cup final, Copa America final, confederations cup final and a Europa league final. He has amazing experience, has a great record and is settled in Manchester.

If DDG leaves this summer I don't believe there is a better replacement available. DDG is arguably the best keeper in the world everyone is going to be a step down.

17 Jul 2017 10:48:09
I agree with Brendan and Shappy. Although Off my head available keepers that i wouldn't mind seeing come in are
Yann Sommer
If fit Mattia Perin
Bernd Leno

From these 3, if Perin can stay fit, I'd say he will be the only one better than Romero, the other 2 I put at par. But this is just my opinion.

15.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 10:53:18
Shappy, most players are available for the right price. Romero has kept clean sheets against minnows so I don't think there's much weight behind those stats.

I agree, any other keeper is a step down from DDG, does that mean we should go from 'best' to 'backup'? Any manager was going to be a step down from SAF but could we have got better than Moyes? Of course we could. We just chose the wrong man. Something we can't afford to do again when replacing arguably our best player.

16.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 10:59:08
I can imagine that Mourinho may go with Romero this year if DDG does go, with Pereira as back up considering how highly Mourinho rates him.
He hadfaith in Romero at the end of last year so no doubt he would this year.
Allowing us to assess the pair of them and if not happy make a move for Oblak next summer.

17.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 11:14:59
Okay Wazza name who you would buy and how much they would cost?

18.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 11:20:56
There are a reason why Jose has been bigging up Joel Perrera recently and giving Serge the new contract. Dave is off home and good luck to him as he has been truly awesome. Let's get a big wad of cash for him, and take one of Real's players in exchange. Kroos or Bale please.

19.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 12:22:39
If we could swap him for Bale, I'd be happy to play with a "backie"!

20.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 13:10:51
Would'nt want De Gea to leave, but if he did I'd be happy with Romero for a season while we see if Perrera develops into a new number one.

21.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 14:21:04
Didn't ed mention Handanovic?

Just to add, I think Romero deserves his chance if DDG leaves. He hasn't let us down.

22.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 17:25:21
If it was me, I would use all the money to get Hugo lloris, world class and proven. And don't give me any crap about not being available (every player has a price no matter what) . Romero is a very very good number 2 but a decent number 1 at best.

23.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 18:07:29
Shappy, it's really not difficult to find better goalkeepers than Romero because he's about average and as for how much anyone costs I don't really think any views on that matter any more.

24.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 18:25:12
W8506 - Hugo Lloris is going nowhere, I guarantee Levy would have us pay roughly the same sort of figure for him as we would receive for DDG. And this "every player has a price no matter what" is very simplistic. I'm sure for the most part that statement is true, How much do you think Juve want for Buffon? How much would Madrid want for Oblak? Just because a player has a price it doesn't mean its a fair one.

Wazza - I refer you back to Shappy: Which Keeper would you buy and for how much? We have a keeper who has proven to be good for us, is happy playing for us, and doesn't want to leave! You say "hes a couple of mistakes away from the masses turning on him", well shame on those masses (would you be one of those? ), what ever happened to supporting a team.

MBD - Agreed.

25.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 18:45:13
Is Lloris that much better than Romero tho? I've seen him make plenty of mistakes in games, so for me he isn't the upgrade on Romero that would be worth the premium he would cost. As I say, I'd give Romero the chance. Very good keeper, experienced, national number 1, played in lots of big games and finals. Not many out there better, and even few worth the stupid money it would take to get them.

26.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 19:02:48
Wazza you keep telling me there are better keepers available but have so far not been able to name one. So come on who would you sign?

27.) 17 Jul 2017
17 Jul 2017 21:42:09
I hope if we do sell ddg to Madrid then let's make em pay top dollar, they tried to shaft us over marata 80 mill yet reports suggest its only 62 mill to Milan, personally hope they tell em to swivel.

28.) 19 Jul 2017
19 Jul 2017 05:06:38
What Shappy said!

Romero is class and I thought so from the his first game at OT.

C'mon Wazza tell us who we can sign who is better. We're waiting!
