with Mata, Carrick, Herrera, Zlatan, Shaw and Felliani out of contract this summer who will be retained and who will leave I would be sad to see Mata leave but think all six could be replaced. If we don't win the league which in all honesty looks very very hard we probably will need 4/ 5 new players which in hindsight should of happened this summer.

{Ed002's Note - There is a good chance Fellaini will go in January. Mata will get a direct approach from Real Madrid in January.}

Could people see Mata in the Madrid team.

Am I right in saying that there is a option for a 1 year extension in Matas contract? If so does this mean United can extend it themselves or does the player also have to agree to it. Can anyone clear that up? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I have not seen his contract.}

Mata to Madrid 🤔.

Be very disappointed to see him leave.

I'd keep Fellaini the rest could go from my perspective. Mata to Madrid B?

I like Herrera but he is a jack of all trades and we need masters.

Sorry Ed 02 kind of stupid question back there. Non the less though in the case of any player if there's an option to add a further year in their contract is it the club or player who has the final say? Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - It depends on the contract but unilateral clauses are always in favour of the club with the player having signed the original contract containing that clause and details of how it is invoked and details of the financial package. It typically requires the provision of a registered letter by a certain date but does not stop the player talking to clubs registered with a different FA from January. The majority of clubs will always talk with the player first, a few perhaps not, and there have been some which have ended up in a legal battle - with one significant case in 2005/06 which ended with the Dispute Resolution Chamber making the decision on behalf of CAS after the matter was referred by FIFA.}

As cover perhaps Jred, I suspect there is an option to extend and despite what Jose would say in the media about wanting Mata to stay, I think he'd be open to selling if he was replaced by Perisic or someone similar.

AS much as I like all the players in this list, I’m not concerned by any of them moving on.

Well first of all, we can’t let them all leave in the summer. Way too big of a blood loss for the squad, no matter how high you rate each one of them. I’d like to see Herrera retained and more involved again.
I guess the club has no say in Fellaini anymore, Zlatan, Carrick and Shaw need to go because of age or because it’s just not happening in Shaw’s case.
I like Mata a lot, so would plead to keep the two Spaniards and sign three starters for the wingback positions and right side.
And then leave room in the squad for highly rated youths to get some minutes.

I think Mata would do well at Madrid. Slower pace of the games, surrounded by some top players, would play to his strengths.
