According to Fox Sports we are going to bid for Kostas Manolas, opinions?

Rubbish.

We would be replacing an average defender with another average defender.

How has he come along in the last year or 2? He was doing really well a few years back and if I remembered correctly turned down a move to Zenit too. From what I recall he was quite likely to getting cards and suspension though. Any opinion Ed1? Maybe even a profile?

{Ed001's Note - I have added him to the player profiles list. My parents go home in less than a week (well all being well anyway as they are not even sure if BA will honour their return flight. They refused to change the outbound flight so they could go to my nan's funeral as it was 'too short notice' apparently.) so things should get back to normal in terms of articles.}

Sorry to hear about your loss Ed. RIP 🙏.

{Ed001's Note - thank you Singh, much appreciated.}

Depends on how much Roma want for him. He's good but I wouldn't sign him if he will Kostas too much. Lol.

No pressure ed1. Do you much about him, how he has been getting on? I wasn't specifically asking for a profile as understand you already have tons of things to do on hand.

{Ed001's Note - he is one of those players who is very hit and miss. Because he is physical and can be rash, he is fantastic one game and terrible the next, from what I have seen. Might well be suited to English football though.}

Sounds like Bailly Ed!

{Ed001's Note - a little yes.}

Agreed ed1, from what I had seen of him he was a solid player when his head was on but just as likely to get sent off as he is to putting a MOTM performance. But if Lindelof is going to be first choice than a more physical partner maybe the way to go. But saying that if he is still as immature than who knows.

But he does remind a bit of Pepe or Ramos (but not a c##t like Ramos I think)

{Ed001's Note - at least he would be entertaining to watch as you never know what you will get.}

It is typical of Man Utd and it is where we differ from Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern, juventus, real and Barca. We know koulibaly is one of the pieces of the puzzle we need, that skrinar is a close second, but we won’t do what is required to get them. Let’s verpool did what was required to get van dyke and it’s paying dividends.

Come on Utd, developer a strategy, identify your targets (including a desire to sign for the club) and go and get them. Enough of this cheap skating and opting for option 3 or 4 because we either had unrealistic targets or weren’t prepared to pay the price.

He is one those players that I will instantly like if he joins because that entertainment factor ed1. But might cause a few people to lose their head. But for sure he will be a significant upgrade on Jones and Rojo because at he will be fit for large parts. Saying all that ed, is he not seen to be very well settled at Roma and not that eager to move on?

Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - so was Nainggolan. Roma are a bit of a mess to be honest, the fans hate the moron that owns them, Palotta. They have a great social media dept run by a great guy, but the rest of the club is shambolic and the fans are protesting against it. So it might well be that any player will think this is a good time to move on now before it gets worse.}

Didn't know that much about Roma's current state. A major upheaval might be coming their way it seems. The transfer of Nianggolan did catch me off guard. I thought he was very happy at Roma and didn't want to leave Rome even after his playing days.

And as a reply to Huggy, calm down it is just a report by some media outlets, a rumour. Also not getting your first choice isn't always a terrible outcome. Sometimes you just won't be able to get your first choice or 2nd choice due to various reason maybe price, maybe other options for player, maybe an unfortunate injury etc, . What does matter in my view is when you are buying a player you aren't just buying for the sake of it, the player has to be fitting with the requirements.

A prime example of a 3rd choice option performing really well is last year's Pl player of the year Mo Salah. He wasn't the first or 2nd choice option (I think) when Liverpool signed him, Brandt was first choice if I recall correctly and Klopp had to be persuaded to sign Salah. So not getting the 1st choice doesn't always result in disaster maybe it also might work. Bug I too hope that if we are after Manolas it isn't just because he is cheaper than other options and is seen to be a significant upgrade and at the desired level.

{Ed002's Note - aroma are working hard on transfers and ha spoken to a number of sides and will be hip to the attendees in Geneva on 15/16.}
