Apologies ed002 if it seems a stupid question but united targeting grealish i'd hope is completely different to uniteds targets for the RW position abd he is being targeted as a midfield position? thanks.

{Ed002's Note - AM and LM - offers different things to Fernandes.}

Shouldn't that be the spot we use for Chong or gomes?

Both are far too young yet. They need a loan or two away to develop. We do need to add quality signings like Bruno to the side this summer.

Chong is just a haircut and has shown absolutely nothing to suggest he is even in the right sport let alone Premier League standard. There are players of the same age who are far more developed.

Thanks ed002. Grealish and a RW would be a great summer.

We've just given Chong a new contract, spent a long time convincing him to stay, so the club obviously disagree. Why give him the contract if you aren't going to use him? As for gomes why would he sign a new deal if the club are going to sign a new player for his position?

Chong and gomes are not first team players.

{Ed002's Note - They would have been given guarantees - this is where it can go horribly wrong. I have loved all of those films that Tommy did but it was time to head out.}

Agree Bolger. Said before I don’t see the appeal of Chong. And Gomes seen less of. Appreciate it’s a squad game but players need to be of the calibre to make the first team.

Gomes was very highly regarded in the academy I know. But many prospects don’t realise their early potential.

I’m well aware players can’t fully develop unless playing regularly. Chong and Gomes can only be loaned out for further experience surely.

I think both Chong and Gomes need a loan. The need to play most weeks if they are to progress and develop. They just won't get that at the United next season.

They struggled for minutes this season when they competition for places was Mata, Lingard and Pereira, next season you could potentially add Sancho and Grealish or similar players as competition for places.

From what I've seen Gomes is the more naturally gifted, but he is very small and will need to learn how to cope with men's football. He won't do that unless he is playing.

Chong from what I've seen looks better coming off the left than the right, which sadly means that he has Rashford, James and Martial as competition. Which makes breaking into the first team that much harder when you have to do so in a position which isn't your best.

Shappy, so why sign a new contract with Chong? Amateur hour all over again.

I would have loved to have heard that conversation "yes Mr Chong, you will be our fourth choice left winger although we also try to sign a young Englishman in the same position so you might become fifth choice. Sign here please"

From the club's perspective they aren't going to want an asset leave for nothing. He is a young talented player who could become a top player or he might become average. But even as an average player the club would receive a decent fee for him.

United could loan him out for a year or two and see how he develops. Then either keep him or move him on.

It's less clear why Chong would choose to sign. I'd imagine that considering he has been able to talk to foreign club's since January, I'd guess he didn't like the options available to him.

Good to see you’re writing off young talent who haven’t been given a proper chance.

But Eric, he has been given a chance and was rubbish.

I see your point Shappy, that makes sense. Maybe we can get a few quid back for him.
