Ethan Laird joins MK Dons on loan.
Another bright prospect who needs game time at a higher level.

Hope he gets a chance to show his qualities. And also let's hope he gets luckier with his injuries.

The club seem to be quite poor when it comes to loaning out players. You would have thought they would be planned out out etc, so cone a transfer window, a player would be aware of potential loans.

Reserve team football only takes you to a certain level. Insure Williams will be looking for a loan move.

I kind of agree that the club's youth plans seem a little old school and archaic.

We often here about no pathway for youngsters, yet this is often met with counter arguments of the number of of youngster in the first team squad.

While Ole certainly seems happy enough to give young players a game, and to an extent it is then down to the player to prove themselves and take that chance with both hands. However, just throwing kids into games and creating a planned pathway are very different things.

Do the youngsters have an individual development plan, things for them to work on, markers to hit etc. Is there a clear plan, plans for possible loans to club's that would suit their development (i. e. right level, good chance to play games, right style of play etc) . Then some sort of plan to get into the first team.

Williams is a good example, there was no plan for him to play in the first team. He wasn't taken on the pre-season tour (which is a good indicator that he wasn't thought of as an option to move up to the first team that season) . Then we had an injury crisis and we needed someone from the academy. Ethan Laird was the one they wanted/ expected to step up, but he was injured. So Williams got the chance and he seized it with both hands, showing talent and great mentality in equal measure. He even kept Shaw out of the starting line up for a time once Shaw was fully fit.

Then in the summer we bought Alex Telles, some thought he would move over to challenge AWB on Williams more natural right hand side. Yet TFM, Tuanzebe and even Lindelof have played at RB more than Williams.

While there are rumours of the club looking at other RB's as back up for AWB. So what is the plan for Williams.

He has proven he is good enough for the EPL, and there are several teams lining up to take him on loan.

This is another example of us not planning for our youth players.

Shappy some also said if we bought telles it would push williams out.

Maybe ole bought telles in order to push willams out. Maybe he doesn't rate or like williams. Ole doesn't feel Williams is good enough to be in his team so the best thing is to get him a loan or sell him.

Ken is this ole is a nasty piece of work your new theme?

7.) 09 Jan 2021
09 Jan 2021 15:27:27
Theme?
Ole does not rate Williams enough to have him in the team. He bought a player in that plays in his position he now has 3 left backs
He has played lindelif and tuanzabe as rb ahead oc Williams.
So that leads me to believe that he does not rate him above 5 players that will play ahead of him.
So what's best for a player of Williams age? I think its to move out on loan or permanently.
Ole doesn't pick him, looks like he maybe prepared to let him leave.
Ole doesn't want him in the team it really is that simple jred.
Say the same for lingard and romero rojo jones. Its a case of he only will use them if he has to by the looks of it.
Ole decided when he signed Telles after a long chase that Williams would be 3rd choice if they are all fit. Honestly i don't see what part of that you don't understand.
This is oles decision.
Yeah i think ole has a nasty streak i wouldn't like to work for him from the impression he gives me personally. that's my opinion. If yours differs that's ok. But you just have to accept that not everybody thinks like you. I accept not everybody shares my views.

Ken
Williams is a rb .
You have had a few post now on the theme of as you put it " ole is a nasty piece of work "
I hope ole does have a tough streak you need that as a manager imo.

9.) 09 Jan 2021
09 Jan 2021 16:14:38
No jred he is right footed but played 99% of his time in the 1st team as lb.
Ole seems to agree that he is not his preferred rb as he has played tfm lindelof and tuanzebe ahead of him.
Either side ole doesn't want him. Simples. Maybe he doesn't like him. Maybe he is not a good trainer.
Ive no idea but he doesn't get picked ahead of cbs on one side and telles and shaw on the other.

10.) 09 Jan 2021
09 Jan 2021 16:33:01
He has played most of his foitball for the first team at lb due to shaw being injured and him being the best option at the time .
But he is a lb . Something just admit your wrong .
We are 16 games onto the season, maybe ole just didn't want him for them particular games . The lads only 20 plenty of football ahead of him .
I wouldn't be surprised if he playes tonight Infact.

Wait i was wrong made a mistake that should read
But he is a rb 😂.

12.) 09 Jan 2021

His own profile has describes him as a lb on his social media.
Do you think you should tell him?

13.) 09 Jan 2021
09 Jan 2021 17:12:03
He played lb in the youth cup team he played lb In the reserves.
Being right footed he can obviously play right side. Ethen laird was playing rb on these teams more often than not. Williams played lb becuase laird was so successful in the underage teams.
Was Dennis Irwin a lb or a rb?
He signed as a rb but ended up playing most of his career at united as a lb due to the emergence of Gary Neville primarily.
Your being silly now because you know he had played nearly all his senior career as a lb and most if his jnr career.

09 Jan 2021 17:30:50
Jred
"Something just admit your wrong"
Maybe you should apply it yourself every once in a while.

Brandon, for one reason or other, has essentially been replaced this season and hasn't been given any sort of chance this season. And he was good in his last outing against Leipzig I am told. Like Donny, his previous performance doesn't seem to come into play for our next fixture.

15.) 09 Jan 2021
09 Jan 2021 18:30:54
He played right back for the u23s did he not.
Right footed are you saying he isn't a rb?

16.) 09 Jan 2021
09 Jan 2021 18:38:40
Maybe it's just he young and needs time to develop further. A loan would be the best thing for him, he won't be getting much game time with us and he can go away and show what he can do. It's a win win really, he goes and plays football and we can see just how good he really is.

17.) 09 Jan 2021
09 Jan 2021 18:41:50
Im not saying 1 negative thing about Williams nor ole in this case.
He is not playing him unless he has to or maybe as jred says tonight as there is likely to be wholesale changes.
In his situation at 20 when there are 5 or 6 players played in front of him there is a decision for him to make. Loan would be my choice. For whatever reason ole doesn't want him in the team at rb he has has awb tfm lindelof and tuanzebe ahead of him at lb shaw and telles. Maybe he is not doing enough in training to warrent a chance. But this is oles decision. Its not a critisism its a fact. I've not said its a bad decision.
From Williams point of view he developed into a 1st team lb very quickly at 20 he has stalled and ole has barely played him this season so its in his best interests to get 1st team football for 6 months.
He could be a great signing on loan he as we have recognised above he can play either side and i would be looking to snap him up on loan if i were a team short on good defenders.
Vdb finds himself in the same position although he has had about 500 mins but he has bruno fred mctom matic and pogba ahead of him.
Ole generally prefers to have 2 players behind bruno he obviously feels vdb is not the player he wants to play. But he needs to be patient and to his credit he seems to keep his head down. He has not had the chance to play in the team for a run of games but that's oles choice.
8 wins 2 draws in the league I've not been calling for ole to start him in the league at all for the past 6 games ole is getting results his way in the league. My view on the sub in 88th min was a public humiliation of the player. A jose type act. That's my opinion on that one.
Lingard jones rojo romero tfm ighalo willams all appear to be totally out of favour and of those if willams stmt on loan and the rest left permanent it would make no difference to the squad at all.
To a much lesser extent mata he also has to decide if he wants to go and play somewhere or be a mentor type squad player at united.

18.) 09 Jan 2021
09 Jan 2021 18:52:44
Danny c
I agree with that.
Ken
I agree with your points on DVB, maybe not thd public humiliation part .

19.) 09 Jan 2021
09 Jan 2021 19:05:33
Laird played there when fit with willams on the left. But its rarely the same 11 at un23 for 2 games in a row. He played rb and cm in a couple of games
Bang on Danny.
He ain't getting into the team here for whatever reason ole doesn't fancy him. There have been rumours and counter rumours about him and Greenwood discipline wise but i don't always pay too much attention to that.

When you talk about a planned path to the first team, for the youth to have milestones, what about right back? We had Dalot, shipped him out, bought AWB who doesn’t attack in the way the manager wishes to play. We have Laird, Williams, Tuanzebe, TFM, Lindelof all who can play RB, so naturally we are looking to buy another RB.

In the summer the club brought in a young RB from Barca, Mark Jurado, too young for the first team, just yet. So what is the plan for him? Don’t worry about us having 5 RB and buying another, we will sell you on in 3 years. We can’t guarantee he is good enough but what will be the path for him?

Redman very few make it through to the first team at this level.
