Reports stating United are looking to sign a GK this summer with Oblak and Donnarumma under consideration. Any truth to this?

{Ed002's Note - It is Sergio Romero (G) and Lee Grant (G) that need a replacement - if De Gea or Dean Henderson were to leave then perhaps another higher end goalkeeper would arrive. I would not hold your breath - certainly not for Donnarumma. There has been interest in Oblak before.}

Thanks Ed, I thought it odd tbh but then again we have done things in an odd way recently.

Think it be very counter productive to sign a Donnarumma or Oblak. Club needs to decide what to do regarding De Gea and Henderson first. Imagine selling De Gea then getting one of them to replace him, you going to still have a upset Henderson

Think the club will try to delay it another season but I would let De Gea go if needs be, hopefully he can get a move that's suitable for him for all the fantastic service he provided us. Henderson is our future number 1.

Logically you would sell De Gea and buy a decent number 2 to back up Henderson. Matt Ryan from Brighton for me, be a logical choice.

I think if someone like PSG come in and make a decent offer for DDG we should snatch their hands off.

DDG is still a good keeper, but he is no longer a great one. Yet he is on a reported 375k per week. He is also steadily declining and has 4 years left on his contract.

If we can move him on them we have to take that, otherwise we could be stuck with the highest paid keeper in the world who is declining for the next 4 years.

Give Henderson the No.1 shirt and buy a top back up keeper to challenge/ cover for him. Possibly someone older with a bit of experience. A player like Areola from Fulham if they go down, or Krul or Begovic from Norwich or Bournemouth from the Championship. Players with EPL experience.

With the birth of his child, I wouldn’t be surprised if Dave opts to go back to Spain this summer. I wish we’d done more to keep Romero happy as I’d be more than satisfied with him and Dean as our keepers. Swapping Dave for Oblak (either figuratively or literally) would leave us in the same mess we’re in now so I hope we steer clear unless the plan is to offload both Dave and Dean and replace them with a first and second choice keeper. That would be equally nonsensical though, imo.

{Ed077's Note - Spain doesnt have many options for DDG right now.}

Krul or begovic? Really shappy? Scraping the bottom of the barrel there lad.

{Ed077's Note - Romero is better and more importantly better suited in a possesion style}

RedWhiskey, Areola would be my first choice. EPL proven and has been top class in a struggling side for most of the season.

That said, what I think we need is a clear second choice keeper, but one who can push Henderson. Similar to when we had Lindegaard with DDG when he was first here.

I'd love to keep Romero but I think we have burned our bridges there.

Ideally we would need someone who speaks English (as communication is vital for a keeper) and ideally has played in the EPL so won't be surprised when challenged in the air for crosses etc. Also ideally I think we need someone with a little experience, someone who has been there and can pass that experience on.

Finding top class players who would be happy to be back up is difficult. While with all the other areas we need to improve on we don't want to be spending 25m on a back up keeper, the cheaper the better really.

Both Begovic and Krul have been statistically in the top 4 keepers in the championship this season, have EPL experience and are at an age where they might accept being second choice at a club like United rather than first choice in the championship.

Romero was one of the best back up goalkeepers around and seemed happy in the role. The decision to retain DDG, then bring back Henderson was a crazy one. Those had to be managerial decisions, but made no sense, then we should have been fair to Romero yet were very poor. I have to wonder how other pro footballers feel when they hear about Romero’s treatment. We should have sold DDG several years ago yet gave him a whopping new contract, madness.

Why are we all so keen to get rid of DDG? He’s our best keeper by a clear margin. Henderson needs a loan to play matches every week.

Romero has been a quality back-up keeper for us and was seemingly happy to play his part in the cup games but obviously we have had to look to the future and bring Henderson in or risk losing him completely. Henderson is 23 though and I was still surprised that, in a European Championship year, we saw him move back to United as it made more sense for all parties for him to stay on loan at Sheff United and be playing week in week out. Romero a perfectly capable back-up and once longer term view on De Gea future known he could've shared duties with Henderson.

De Gea has been better this season than last, he’s made a couple of mistakes but that’s it and has made some great saves, people were saying before his recent error that Deano coming back has forced him to improve and I agree. Henderson is a top keeper too and is pushing for his place, the defence looks better and more assured with him in there, so if bringing Henderson back was a ‘managerial decision’ then it was a good one for me.
