Ole has signed a new 3 year contract with an option of another year.

This season he has no excuses but compete and win trophies.

TRD, I think the club is inching closer and closer to winning things.

We seem to be making better signings, we have in general moved on the players who haven't been good enough.

Young players are starting to replace some of those squad players and push toward the first team.

While on the whole most players are playing better now than they did under previous managers.

You can see the type of team we are trying to build, and the style of play that is attempting to be played.

I get that a lot of people are impatient and want everything now, that is a sign of the times I guess. Instant success, instant gratification, with little care for how you get it or what it costs.

I think as along as there is some level of improvement this coming season then Ole's job is safe.

Better performances, more points, top four finish, maybe make a final. Even win something.

I think given the much larger settlement the club would need to pay for sacking Ole now. Then he would need to seriously fail at something such as achieving top four for them to sack him.

Unless we see a dramatic downturn in performances and results this season I fully expect to see Ole still here as manager at the start of the 2022/ 23 season at least.

He has done absolutely nothing to warrant a new contract or to convince he’s improved the side. He’s tactically clueless and flops every semi or final he reaches. Unbelievable.

{Ed014's Note - wow that’s great news, just need Pogba to sign up now!

Lol. I wait with bated breath for the fresh excuses that will be found to defend Ole and the continual bashing of the owners, board, and select few players, once this upcoming season ends, and Ole yet again fails to deliver. Already his new (old) targets are the same as last season. Better performances, more points, top four finish, maybe make a final. Van Gaal was sacked for accomplishing 3 of 4 targets, that has been regurgitated for Ole, the most important being making a final and actually winning it. The size of settlement will be of no consequence to the club if Ole is to be sacked. Moyes was sacked within the first year of a 6 year contract. I don't believe the club will have an issue paying Ole off if he doesn't deliver.

Shappy, I would hardly say people are demanding 'instant success' - SFA has been gone a fair while now! It's an accumulation of awful signings and lacklustre performances during all of the time that has followed since he left. I can't honestly say Utd have looked convincing in more than dribs and drabs in all of that time.
But like you say, things seem to be better right now than they have been post-Fergie. I can blame Ole for a lot of questionable tactical naivety in the last few seasons, but I don't blame him for the signings and consequent messes that were Sanchez, Jones, Pogba. I like the signings that have come in during his reign. Sancho, Varane and Tripper seem like the menu this close season, although if/ when Pogba goes I imagine that a midfielder will follow. Hopefully it will be in this window so we get some pennies to use rather than lose him for nothing in January which seems the more likely way things pan out. Will PSG really want to pay £50m for the sake of 6 months? Doesn't sound logical unless they feel Real or Juve will be more tempting to him if they get involved.

Well I don't agree with it but I will get behind him and support him and the team and hope to God I am wrong about him and he delivers us a third era of exciting attacking attractive football to deliver us EPL/ CL success.

The most interesting part of the BBC article on his signing a new contract is Simon Stone stating Varane is likely. Not the type to go on record with baseless rumours.

Love_United, you obviously don't remember LvG very well then.

The performances under him were the worst EVER at least in my lifetime. So it wasn't better performances.

LvG got 70 points in his debut season, and 66 in the season he was sacked. So less points.

He didn't finish in the top 4 and ultimately that is what probably cost him his job.

He did however make a final and win it.

So that is 1 of the 4 "targets" achieved not 3 out of 4.

Just another example of the short term memories and need for instance success.

Shappy, this will be Ole's 4th season in charge.
Have you seen any improvement in his in-game management?
Set piece was an issue from the first game and it wasn't fixed which cost us so many matches and even the last game in Europa finals.

The play style is defensive, doesn't make right substitutions to change a game, shows favoristism towards certain players, no identity or cohesiveness in attack, over plays certain players.

These are the reasons why fans are skeptic and divided over Ole.

Just the amateurs way of making sure he doesn't leave on a free next year.
Probably don't know it only works for players.

Ole has done a hell of a lot behind the scenes that had to be done.

We've progressed every season and now the I expect trophies. If he doesn't deliver there will be options and I'd expect with investment comes expectations.

{Ed0666's Note - what’s he done behind the scenes…pray tell?

I fail to see progress.

No youth players have progressed

No definitive style or tactics

Lots of expensive signings not improved

No trophies

Maybe I’m missing something.

I can't beleive the negativity here after the pr disasters of lvg and jose i think ole has dine a great job of instilling some standards in and of the pitvh. I would definitely like to see a trophy or title but are on the brink so i can't understand the ole bashing? I think he will never be able to appease some people no matter what he does.

Thank you yer man for mentioning that. Manchester United manager's job is the most unique in football. I never thought legendary managers like LVG and Mourinho would crumble under the pressure like they did. I honestly feel that they were shocked at how little credit they got from the press and the pundits. Ole knows all that. He knows that Manchester United players and the manager have to block everything out and focus on the job. He deserves credit for how he has handled constant criticism. He also deserves credit for how systematically he has shaped the squad into a more cohesive unit. Just compare the line-ups now to those at the time of LVG and Mourinho. He has had to get rid of players who were not 100% in it and build a tight knit squad.
Yes, there have been in-game failings but he needs to improve as well. People talk about 81 points under Mourinho. Points don't matter, what matters is league position. We got 4th and 5th under LVG. 5th, 2nd and 6th under Mourinho. In Ole's two full seasons we finished 3rd and 2nd which shows consistent progression.
Talking about the players - look at how many have improved under his leadership. We have a genuine talent in Mason who would never get opportunities if not for Ole. Improvements from Shaw, Fred, Rashford (in goals and assists) . We finally got a great player to build the team around in Bruno. Mourinho got Pogba and Mkhitaryan as creative forces but they weren't to be counted on. Pogba is and always will be a great supporting player. He will never be the leader. Ole got Bruno and it solved the problem instantly.
Sorry for the long message, but my point is that he deserves a lot of credit for the immense job he has done so far. He does need to improve his coaching of course. As long as we get a manager that wont' chop everything down and start from scratch, but will take this work forward, I don't see who else we can get to lead this squad.

repo

Ole has not done an immense job as you put it. There are many who could lead this squad better, Antonio Conte, who, as far as I am aware, is still immediately available is a simple example.

No youth progression? Greenwood not a youth player? I'm by no means ole in but some things people wish to beat ole with are just being plucked out of thin air. Some players have improved under him. Youth have been given chances where necessary. The camaraderie within the lads seems better. We have seen some good football, albeit in small spells. His in game management leaves a lot to be desired as does his use of his squad effectively.

I wouldn't have given him more than a year extension personally but time to get behind the team hope the new signing (s? ) click and we push on this season.

I'll reserve judgment until December time. Seasons not even started yet some are crying about a minutes in the tank friendly loss.

Could be worse, could be a gooner after all eh 😉.

Stand. is it not the players that have flopped and bottled it? We get to a final and they under perform

Then lose on pens which is nothing to do with ole

I will give people the ole doesn't get it right tactically "sometimes" he has got it right when we have beat the mighty pep. the god that cannot do wrong

Regardless of whether ole might not bring back the "fergie times"

No one can say we have not improved from previous managers.

We are no longer a team I hate watching

I don't think we will win anything under ole unless he starts letting loose and I do think we are a cm and a striker away from challenging but that is dependent on us bringing in varane as well.

But no doubt ole and the team have to win a cup minimum this season and be in the race for the title.
