ED002, if possible, could you provide an update on Utds manager targets please?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Mauricio Pochettino (C) First choice
Ruben Amorim (C) Option to Pochettino for Manchester United but huge €30M release clause at Sporting as they know that he is likely to be a target for many leading clubs moving forward. The up and coming coach.
Julen Lopetegui (C) another option.}

Editor 2 - happy new year.
Assume Poch would be a costly acquisition also or does he have a release mechanism?
Maze.

{Ed002's Note - I would not worry about that.}

Ten hag off the list then.

{Ed002's Note - I would not be concerned about ten Hag at this time.}

Thanks for the info ED002.

In what order would you put the three managers in terms of ability?

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what ability you are talking about.}

surprised that amorim is on there, I know he won the title with sporting, he is only 36, would be a hugh risk considering his buyout clause aswell.

have we shown any interest in ten hag ed?

{Ed002's Note - His representative has made clear the only recent approach for ten Hag was from another side and Manchester United has not spoken with him.}

Hi Ed002 or anyone else is it possible that someone can provide some more info on Ruben Amorim? I don't know anything about him. I like learning about up and coming managers and what new ideas they bring to the game in general.

I would definitely appreciate any info.

{Ed002's Note - Sporting were a mess when he arrived and he has fixed it. He is seen as a great talent going forward and will get plenty of interest from higher profile clubs.}

thanks for the info ed

If I was to guess I would say city as a replacement for PEP when he eventually goes.

I thought there might be some interest in Galtier, he seems to be doing great in France.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

diego, best person to ask for info on his profile is ed001, he does some great read ups on players.

{Ed001's Note - Ed077 is always useful on managers as well, he seems to keep a close eye on them. I always find his input very interesting.}

It’s always been Poch all along. How do you think he will he work with Ragnick guys? Are you happy with him as the choice?

13.) 25 Jan 2022
25 Jan 2022 13:13:45
eric, i think if we do get poch him and rr will work well, we look to have a better structure for going forward

united have shown they will back a manager, look at what ole got, poch was restricted at spurs, so there will be money for him to use

people say he failed because he didn't win the title, but to do what he did with virtually no money at spurs, he brought threw youngers, improved players and they did play good football.

they were just lacking a few players and they might have won something towards the end of his reign anyway, they needed to freshen up the squad.

he also did good things at southampton.

Eric, they seem like they would work well together. Stylistically and philosophically they look to play offensive football, based on hard work, pressing and preferably with younger players who are more mouldable.

However, just because there are similarities between two people that doesn't mean they will get along. We probably all know people who in theory should get along well, but in practice they can't stand eachother.

Whether Pochettino is the right choice is a tougher one to answer. He has done well developing younger players, and he has got his teams playing well for the most part. Clearly he isn't suited to the PSG job in its current guise. He isn't the guy to bash big ego's into shape. Which could be a problem with us. I'm less concerned by his lack of medals as in context of the club's he has managed he always had the odds heavily stacked against him. More of a concern would be that his Spurs side seemed to deteriorate the longer he was there, certainly the quality of the first 11 did, they made many poor signings and the best players he had were those that were there from before he joined.

How much control he had over transfers, or what the budget constraints were we could only speculate at. At Southampton their excellent recruitment I think could be put down to Paul Mitchell, he moved to Spurs and unearthed a few good options before heading over to Red Bull. Certainly once he left Spurs the players they signed tended to flop more often than not. There seemed to be a perchant for signing players with the required physicality over the technical quality. Ultimately it's much easier to make a technically great player fitter and stronger than it is to take a physical player and improve their technical skills. So I'd want a calm experienced head involved in transfers if Pochettino was to get the job. Maybe that could be Ralf.

Which youngsters did Poch bring through at Spurs?

16.) 25 Jan 2022
25 Jan 2022 15:40:10
would say son. deli alli ( under poch) alderwiereld and dier were the ones that stood out as being good signings, i'm sure trippier was signed under poch and then you had the the likes of sanchez and sissoko.

sure i seen he made 27 signings while he was there but only 2 or 3 were for over 20 million ( might be wrong)

but like you say how much of that did poch have a say.

was kane on loan when poch arrived?

I am surprised Potter is not under consideration. He is superb. Although i agree that with our style of play under Ralf Pochetino seems a better suit as he plays very aggressive high pressing style as we shaw at Spurs. Ideally my list would include Potter and he would be my first target.

ED077,

What are your thoughts on Rubin Amorin?

Thanks.

{Ed077's Note - sorry, I've not watched Sporting CP play under him much. But he took over a struggling Sporting side and won then the league for the first time in about 2 decades and has gotten them through to knockouts of the UCL.

He sure has a growing reputation in the football sphere and is a guy worth keeping an eye on.

Nice one Shappy. I really do have my reservations on Poch.

Something just doesn't feel right. I actually would be more comfortable with RR than Poch ngl.

Thanks ED077,

Who would be your pick for the next Man Utd manager?

{Ed077's Note - taking Nagelsmann out of the picture I would look at Christophe Galtier but he only joined OGC Nice last summer so that looks unlikely too. So I think it would be wise for Man Utd to try and lure Eric Ten Hag in from Ajax and rebuild the club with RR and ETH working together but that too doesn't look that likely an outcome as things stand. I would have shouted out Adi Hutter too but his Monchengladbach team haven't been brilliant this season and so can see a huge section of the fan base be massively underwhelmed with his appointment. I think if RR would be given a big enough say and a big enough role at the club to start rebuilding the club then Roger Schmidt would be a good option as the head coach too.

In short I would look at the unlikely to happen Christophe Galtier first.

But the club is in all probability trying to sell if they can bring in Poch.
