I don't think he believes he's bigger than the club. But he's been played out of position for two years now. He's hit a bad run of form, which isn't shocking considering he's not a CM, and he's been left out of matches or subbed in the second half. I have no problem with him wanting clarification about his role in the side, as he is a striker, and there are plenty of teams who would love to use him in his primary position. Anyone questioning his dedication to the club hasn't watched a match as he is a 110% player who tracks back, tackles and works selflessly for his team on the pitch. Whether its an official transfer request or just a desire for clarification of his future, I get it. The first time he was concerned that the team had fallen behind in transfer activity, which we all agreed with, and he was right and helped lead to Kagawa and RVP. This time I believe its that he will do his job wherever he is asked to play, he doesn't want the last years of his career to be an unknown, both in position and consistency of appearances. I'd feel differently if he was a Torres-type of selfish, one-dimensional player, but he's always done right by us on the pitch, and in both scenarios I can understand his frustration. First with the club ambition following the Ronaldo sale with no replacement, and now with the way he's been used so diversely but at great personal sacrifice in terms of form, reputation, etc. The man is a legend, should retire as a red, and I still think every last one of you wanting him sold is absolutely out of your minds. This isn't Nani or Anderson, IT'S WAYNE ROONEY! REMEMBER THE NAME! Just my opinion of course, but i'm not usually that unrealistic or sentimental. Cheers everyone, this site has helped a lot of us cope with the uncertainty of this past week. Seems like a bloody year since last week's rumor about a fergie announcement.

There's ways of doing things and he's done the wrong thing both times. Ok he questioned the ambition, so did all of us. But I actually think it was all about the money and when he got the cash and u turned he came up with this ambition thing as he knew it would save him with the majority of the fans. If he was worried about the ambition of the club was a transfer request really the best way of seeing how ambitious they were? It backfired on him as we signed two top class players who play in his position. His own lack of professionalism regards his weight has lead to him being subbed or dropped so that's his fault. He can't handle being dropped because of his ego, all this white pele crap and the rest of It, so instead of doing what most players would do and knocking on the boss' door and asking for a quiet word instead he's thrown a wobble and handed in another transfer request. Ok he did it in house and not running to the media. But Fergie made it very clear what he thought about how he's handled it, clearly blamed him for being unfit when he said a fit rooney wouldn't be subbed. Last time a lot of fans backed rooney. Now they don't. Last time him leaving would have been unthinkable. Now he's replaceable and argueably has been. There have been a few on here all season who have been saying he is in decline, the team needs to evolve etc etc and I have to agree with them. The transfer fee and wages along with the sale of others would pay for the rebuild and get in four or five players who would push us on to the next level. So from that point of view I say sell him. Thanks for the effort, the hard work, the goals, the memories. Shame it didn't work out in the end and you missed your potential. Good luck at your new club, preferably foreign. But good bye all the same. MrE

How is he a legend? Edwards, Charlton, Law, Best, Robson, Cantona, Giggs, Scholes are legends. I'd put Rooney down a bracket with the likes of Bruce, Keane, Ruud etc. MrE {Ed007's Note - Keane?? Roy Keane?? That's a ridiculous statement.}

Best post I have read on the Rooney saga. People just want a scapegoat, some one they can insult and blame. Rooney loves playing for the club. I too will be passed if I was played out of position. Also people complain about his wages, but forget he carried the whole team on his back so so many times. Give the lad a break!

Rooney isn't the player he was three years ago. He's gone backwards consistently through that period, rather than forwards, including during the time when he was playing in his preferred position. He doesn't get played in his favoured position now because a) his performances don't justify it and b) he doesn't play to the team's game plan.

You can't blame his lack of fitness and his lifestyle on anyone other than himself. Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Gerrard, Ronaldo, Messi, Zidane. Great players look after themselves. There's plenty of support structures in the modern game to help them. Rooney is as highly paid as he is - the best paid player in the club's history - because of the form and potential he was showing at the time he signed that deal. He now shows neither the form nor the potential. He is, like Nani, often thoughtless and lazy in possession. He is capable of being a really good player again - but only he can get himself back there.

Why is he being played out of position guys?? Because he fails to keep himself in the shape needed, he has lost his pace and his short passing and first touch are shocking.

I commend everyone for their loyalty but people need to open their eyes. He is a poor professional, if he had kept himself in shape like Giggs, Ronaldo etc he could have been amazing. Fact is he hasn't and it has impacted on his fitness and ability on the pitch.

We brought RVP in as Rooney isn't good/fit enough to lead our attack. Kagawa came in because his short passing and control mean that he isn't up to the needed standard to play number 10. He definitely isn't a CM so where do people see this supposedly world class legend playing?

We have to accept that he could have been amazing but his lifestyle has impacted hugely on his on field performance. I would have loved him to have been up with Messi and Ronaldo but he simply has never got to that standard when he should have.

Its a huge shame but now is time for him to move on.

God help me and give me patience lol.

The first time questioning our ambitions was only about getting a bigger contract and it is ridiculous to even think that he has influenced our decisions in buying RVP and Kagawa.

Are you trying to say some 27 year old scouser who frankly is not the brightest boy on the block is the driver of our ambition and that the greatest winning manager in British football history who has been obsessed with winning needed to be reminded off that, Absolute Crap.

Go back and follow the trail of his statements. 3 months ago says he wants to end his career at United and extend his contract. This time around it is again about the same thing, his agent wants to push us to extend his contract and we are unwilling to do so on the terms they want. There is a lot more to this than what meets the eye and he is no saint.

His form does not justify his demands and I love the double standards. On this basis we would be the village wh. re for every player to b. d us over.

The only way to deal with players who put demands on the club is to walk them out the door or we will turn into a Zoo like Real and City.

I would argue Pogba had a better case for more money and guarantees of playing time than Rooney does and if there was a mistake of letting a player go remember the name "PAUL POGBA".

Pogba was still following the Rooney example thinking because it worked once it would work again. Still better off without him.
