Just a question fr you Manchester United fans

When did you start supporting Manchester United and why?

1.) 05 Mar 2014
When I was born.
My dad.
Same as my kids.

2.) 05 Mar 2014
Good question, should get plenty replies!

I am a Rangers fan and season ticket holder of exactly 15 years (I am 21 today and got my ST as a 6th birthday present), but like most up here I have an English team and it's always been United as far as I can remember when I got my first United shirt in 2001. But I'd say I really became a proper fan of the club in 2004. The reason being that everyone was jumping on the Chelsea bandwagon, so I started really following United and they have become not so much my second or English team, but on par with Rangers or very close to it. I read up on the history of the club, got MUTV and watched all the greats and am now a fully fledged fan of almost ten years. I love the club.

What about you Potatohead?

3.) 05 Mar 2014
As a kid, about 1973, used to play football in the rec. We were always Utd, Best, Law, Charlton.

The rest is history.

4.) 05 Mar 2014
Since the 2008 final mates

5.) 05 Mar 2014
I started supporting United from the middle of 2002-2003 season only because I was a huge Beckham fan.

I started watching Football from the 2002 world cup and that got me interested in EPL(Football wasnt that big in India back then, it is huge now -- still in developing stages though).

As I started watching I realized that Scholes is a much better player than Beckham but I was still a Beckham fan.

At the end of that very season Beckham left for Madrid but I chose to stay with United and it has been a great period for us as supporters since then. Yes we have a minor blip now but I'm sure we'll be back to the top in no time.

I was at army school when I was 12, I remember once the warden was not around and I had the remote control of TV.

Was browsing some channels and saw a team playing football in red and white. And I ended up watching the whole match.

Then I was 12 and now I am 29 and I just love everything about United.

7.) 05 Mar 2014
About 1981/82 when I was around 5 or 6. My dad not a supporter but used to go on about Charlton, law and particularly best.

Good question, on an Autumn day back in 2002 I was introduced by my mum (yes my mum. ) who had a spare ticket next to where she's had her ST for 40 years now. At the time the only player I knew for obvious reasons was David Beckham and I decided that i'd go and the opportunity of going cropped up more and more and I learned more and more about what Manchester United is all about and as they say the rest is history

9.) 05 Mar 2014
Back in the 70s. Loved United's history & attacking philosophy, plus I wanted to be different because at the time almost everybody seemed to be a Liverpool fan!

10.) 05 Mar 2014
1996 my dad was working in London and got Tickets for the Charity Shield. United won 4-0 I was hooked.
No club loyalty in my family Grandad was a Wolves Supporter back in the 50's, the old man a Port Vale supporter ( I still blame having to watch them as a kid for my lack of football knowledge lol).

SrevenC I hope your team get financial security and soon. Your recent owners have been taking the p*** and the cash.

11.) 05 Mar 2014
Myself I got the bug in 1966 watching England win the WC, I was 11 then never interested until that time in football. Bobby Charlton was majestic.

Then I saw him play for United with Best and Law there was never going to be another team after that, even through the despair of the 70s that was still worse than now.

12.) 05 Mar 2014
Steven my real name isn't Potatohead you know that admin from Barnet? That's the reason I took this name but any how I've supported Everton since 2011 because I liked Everton and didn't watch football that much.

13.) 05 Mar 2014
Mam and uncle are Manchester United daft so I followed suit, can't remember the exact time I started supporting but my earliest memories were beating barca in the cup winners cup, always remember mark hughes going round the keeper and firing in into the net so I guess I started taking an interest around that time.

14.) 05 Mar 2014
@ Grund

Thanks mate, me too. The whole fiasco is/has been heartbreaking, we are a great club with good values but we've been taken for a ride big time. Hopefully we can get some stability at board level asap and get back to where we should be. I am still attending every match, home and away, but the football is as much an issue as anything to be honest. Ally McCoist is a Rangers legend, but as a manager he is seriously lacking.

15.) 05 Mar 2014
My dad always took an interest in them and its the first proper team I ever watched. I may not be a Manc but I have loves this club for the past 13 years since I was 6 and got my first shirt.

16.) 05 Mar 2014
From the day I was born, my first game was when I was 5 and I have hardly missed a home game since. I didn't have a choice, stories from my Grandma about Munich and my dad getting excited every match day, how could I not support the greatest team in the world?

17.) 05 Mar 2014
What a wonderful post!

In 1966. I live in South Africa and in those days I played under 16 football for a team known as Highlands Park FC. Our kit was almost an identical replica of United's, ergo I became a supporter.

We did not get TV in South Africa until the late 70's so relied on radio, newspapers and magazines for any scrap of info I could get.

We also did not get British Football on TV until the mid 90's but through a work connection in London I used to get Betamax cassettes of 'Match of the Day' sent to South Africa. A bunch of us, fully dressed in MU kit used to sit around watching MOTD - albeit about 10 days after broadcast in the UK.

Nowadays we get every game broadcast live in South Africa.

Over the years I have managed to make 15 pilgrimages to Old Trafford. Am delaying the next one until we have a squad worth coming over to watch.

18.) 05 Mar 2014
1976. My Dad is a Manchester United fan and I watched the FA Cup Final against Southampton which we lost. A year later we beat the scouse 2-1 to win the FA Cup and stop them winning the treble. I was only 7 but was hooked for life!

19.) 05 Mar 2014
Since 1969

Because It's a family tradition and my father, God rest him used to bring me over regularly from Dublin by boat and train, ( not easy for a 7 year old but well worth it!)

My 13 and 11 year old are maintaining the tradition.

United Till I die!

20.) 05 Mar 2014
Well, digressing a bit as I am not a
Manchester United fan. but I remember taking my brother (who, from then on became a United fan) to his first game at Old Trafford. You will be able to grasp that I am of a certain age when I tell you that Albert Quixall (record signing) made his home debut

21.) 05 Mar 2014
Since 1979 my first year in boarding school in England and remember watching us lose the fa cup final to arsenal.

22.) 05 Mar 2014
1990 fa cup final vs crystal palace, I didn't support anyone until that day, went to a replay and thankful Lee Martin got the winner, to think I could be a palace fan now, no disrespect!

23.) 05 Mar 2014
Watch United play when I was 5 and demanded my parents get me a jersey. I was in love.

24.) 05 Mar 2014
1967. But first went to OT in 1970.
I've watched many a good match!

25.) 05 Mar 2014
My earliest memory of a United game was 1966 i.e. I was 8 and went to a 2-2
draw between United and Burnley when Andy Lockhead was playing for Burnley
I also United play Leeds United under Revie and the derby match against City when Glynn Pardoe broke his leg.My greatest memories of the old days was George Best running half the length of OT to score the winner against Chelsea and United Slaughtering West Brom 7-0 in an evening fixture,
I have lived through all the managers since Busby and clearly Sir Alex had the greatest success. Some of the players to thrill have been amazing and the discipline was there for all to see.
Now Moyes needs to build a new tem and blend experience with youth and until the team start winning trophies again his future will always be in question. The United spirit will never die and this is something that gives me hope for the future.

26.) 05 Mar 2014
August 1968 watching the Manchester derby match on TV and my brother told me the team in red were European champions and I should support them. Hooked.

27.) 05 Mar 2014
In 76 when six yrs old, my dad was a utd fan, my first games QPR, Everton, sat on the railings and sw my dad at halftime and full time, in those days didn't care about the league just loved watching them and being there, standing, the small club shop, the kit, the noise, Gordon Hill, Mcilroy, Buchanan, happy days.

28.) 05 Mar 2014
Since Leeds beat United to the old division 1 because we lost the game againts Liverpool without short of drama. striking the bar and post. Then cutscene Lee Chapman and Cantona watching the game on the sofa . handshakes after the final whistle. Full on after that.
