Does anyone know how Pardew can be banned for further games if the ref dealt with it on the pitch? They cannot take retrospective action if it is a player, so why can they if it's a manager? I'm not saying he doesn't deserve a bigger ban, but think it's strange.

I believe the rules have changed now. or are changing for next season.

one of the two, but now regardless of whether the ref deals with it longer/shorter punishments can he handed out.

I don't know for sure, but maybe it is to do with having one rule for the players and another for the managers (staff), fans etc.

At the end of the day is the ref able to send off the kit man or other people loitering around the tunnel or benches, I don't know? Not sure where his responsibility finishes to be fair. I know refs send supporters away in very low league games, but can a ref send fans off during a prem game, it all seems a bit unchartered territory.

You're mixing up 2 different things I think.
Retrospective video review isn't intended to undermine the ref - if he says he saw it, end of. If he didn't or only partially saw it retrospective punishment can be awarded.
A straight red card for a player = 3 match ban which can be increased in serious cases, think Suez.
Red card for a non-player doesn't have any automatic suspension AFAIK so FA has to decide whether to charge manager (kit man, coach etc) then indy tribunal sits to decide guilt and appropriate punishment if guilt is established.

Beast, this is an exciting idea you've touched upon; refs sending off fans.

What would constitute a red card offence? Poor banter? Not singing? Dodgy face paint?
