I thought Welbeck played well last night. I hope he continues to gain confidence, because he could be a key player for us with his athleticism (England & Utd). I know some of you don't rate him at all, but he seems to be trusted with a lot of responsibility and there are just a few things to be worked on. Composure really is the key thing which will come given a run.

I genuinely think he should have stayed on as he posed a real threat for a tired Italian team and Rooney sacrificed for Barkley.

I think Wayne should have been taking off instead od Danny

Agree Welbeck is a honest hard working lad who can do a job for us (utd & England)

Rooney should have started in the middle and sterling out wide, England's biggest mistake was not man marking pirlo out of the game, pirlo a class act and at his age could get player of the tournament

Leahy, I totally agree. Sterling was good but was not providing that final ball and isn't too much of a goal threat from distance. Out wide he would have been able to run at the defense and open up the middle of the park. Wellbeck is awful. I used to be a big supporter of his, but year after year he continues to struggle to score and trips over himself whenever he gets in good position. It seems whenever he gets into the danger areas all of his abilities fail him - he loses a step in his pace, he misses the net, and falls over far too much. I agree that he is a very hard worker and puts in a shift, but that's only good enough for beer league soccer. When your a professional playing for a team like United, or England, and are in an attacking role, u should provide danger and some quality in the final third of the pitch - he has yet to do that. Next game, start Sturridge up front with Rooney, Barkley and Sterling as the three behind. Rooney or Barkley in the middle. Better yet a front three of Rooney, Sturridge, Sterling with a diamong 3 behind, headed by barkley in the offensive central spot

Pistol - Welbeck took the game to Italy much more than most of our players. He won the ball back up top and allowed us to counter attack at pace on several occasions.

Granted he has looked a little clumsy at times, but he didn't the other night and judging solely on that performance he deserves to start.

They had Chiellini playing left back, we didn't exploit that at all second half, because Welbeck was switched sides. Uruguay will be weaker on the flanks as well due to sending off, so we can hopefully see some real pace out there. I think the OX will play as well, not too much else will be messed with.
