Lot of people seemingly frustrated by the transfer window and I'm not quite sure why? I would have liked the De Gea situation to have been resolved, as it's inevitable he will end up in Madrid sooner or later.

However, if you had told me at the very start of the window that we would sign Schweinsteiger, Darmian, Schneiderlin, Romero, Depay, and Martial while also keeping a hold of De Gea I would have been ecstatic.

Yes our team has some areas of weakness and our play has not been convincing. However, our squad is miles better from when LVG took over and has much more potential to improve. We are a hard team to beat if not totally free-flowing, and I am excited to see the team challenge for the league and in Europe.

What happens if Rooney gets injured or continues to play poorly way too much pressure on Depay and Martial, so that leaves us Wilson or Fellaini up front, which is frankly criminal. Then there is Blind at CB bashed up by Gomis the weekend, Ed woodward blew the window totally after a decent start, why were Hernandez and Januzaj let go, who I incidently think are both rubbish but only just better than nothing

You would of been ecstatic with Romero and martial , really? Talk of his fee rising to £60m. For a 19 year old, with no caps for France. The reason some of us aren't happy is that some vital areas have been neglected again. 4 or 5 windows on the bounch and no top CB has come in. In attack we have a finished Rooney, Wilson who needs a loan and martial. We have no pace from the right side. We will be in a fight for 4th again this year. And after a quarter of a billion spend that's not good enough

LVG is the man in charge and he will only buy what is needed in his eyes. With De Gea, clearly he had a plan to replace him with Keylor Navas, who I think is a good goal keeper to have.

Martial? yes he is young and came with a big price, but he will be worth it IMO.

I am hopeful that we will do good in league and challenge for the title, we will be hard to beat in Europe and cup games.

Fergie went years without addressing the CM situation. We didn't do too bad there.

Yes we haven't addressed the CB, but we have the best defensive record since November so LVG obviously didn't see it as the biggest problem. I think the window was quite a decent one to be fair. And we even managed to keep a hold of De Gea, doesn't matter how but we have.

It's irrelevant how much we spent on Martial. The boy looks a serious talent and we could be sitting here in 2-3 years time praising the club for having the foresight to buy such a talent. I wouldn't be rating a kid just because he hasn't got any French caps.

Go back and have a look at ed002s summary and have a think. Overall a decent window and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

Ruud, you're right in some ways but you're underestimating the weakness we have in attack. No right sided winger, no world class striker.
We lost rvp, falcao, chicaritto, Januzaj and ADM and replaced them with Memphis and Martial. I know the former didn't cover themselves in glory last year, but hokw do we know that a 20yr and a 19yr old foreign players are going to come in, settle, learn the language, relocate their families and play great football at the same time. It is simply not going to happen.
So that leaves us with Rooney, mata and young up there.
I'm not saying Memphis and Martial are not going to be good, but they are young and we cannot expect too much of them.
Striker, RW and CD should have been addressed and they were not. The big positive is ddg is here as we're going to need him to be in top form to make 4th spot.
At the moment, I don't think top4 is a possibility.

Stand,

I for one hope we do end up paying 60 million for martial I'll be honest, that will mean he has been top scorer in the premier league for 4 seasons and won the ballon d'or, £60 million would be a bargain if that were to happen wouldn't it?

So really all you can say is that the guaranteed £36 million over the 4 years is too much but in reality that is a drop in the ocean to united if you see what the spend was this summer before that transfer and what the incomings are from TV and sponsor deals.

Remember Monaco came out and said they expect to receive the full amount in the end, well I really hope they are correct.

GDS, stop being so sensible man. We got screwed on Martial. It was £60M as an up front lump sum payment, no conditions and no add ons. They actually asked for 16 but Woody misheard and thought they said 60. It's an easy mistake to make.

Schmid,

Just to pick up on something you said there:

'hokw (sic) do we know that a 20yr and a 19yr old foreign players are going to come in, settle, learn the language, relocate their families and play great football at the same time.'

Great point, we have no idea whether they will or won't I agree.

'It is simply not going to happen'.

Oh, I thought you said how do we know? But now you are suggesting that you do know, little contradictory maybe?

Schmidfield, you contradict yourself in that post;

"how do we know that a 20yr and a 19yr old foreign players are going to come in, settle, learn the language, relocate their families and play great football at the same time. It is simply not going to happen"

How do you know it is simply not going to happen?

We are a stronger unit than this time last year and the purchases are looking to build a squad that can challenge season after season in the future (with the exception of Schweinsteiger) with some quality added in the next 12 months.

The teams that are around us haven't performed as well as we have in the transfer market and as for world class strikers I would say that only City and possibly Chelsea have them in the prem.

I think most of us are happy with the players we brought in (even martial it's mainly the price that concerns the doubters) but we're all just concerned about the depth of the squad. I think if we had brought in just one CB (I would have liked Laporte as he fits the LVG left footed requirement and is much better than rojo) then we could have looked back on the window and said we did well. It must be said that the players we have now are all capable of playing a number of positions, but even 3 injuries could translate to us as a crisis

{Ed002's Note - It is not just the price with Martial, I recall after the match last year team mates complaining that he lost the ball too much as he didn't realise that he wasn't able to get past players but kept trying to do so. It is still a pretty much raw talent. Where he will be played is also yet to be seen.}

Does anyone else think that once Jones is fit he will come back into the middle with Smalling? That for me is our best partnership. But it depends if LVG can get over this 'I want a left footed player on the left' nonsense.

No 7 , jones is no better than me, I'd rather play Victor Valdez along side Smalling than Jones. Our best option at CB is a CM in Blind. Says a lot doesn't it? Do you see Jose playing Matic CB, or Wenger playing Cazorla, or City playing Toure ? Nope

As for everyone's stance on Martial, If you read my posts you'll see a few days ago I actually said I know very little about him, and that he could very well end up being worth every penny. In reality am I expecting him to be the next "Henry"? No, I've heard it too many times before. And funnily enough I never saw a single post from any of you during the window suggesting he would be an ideal signing , and for £36m. Lacazette was probably attainable for that fee. I'm all for youth and prospects. But there has to be a blend of ready made and prospects. Look at our forwards and the only one that's is not potential, is Rooney. And he's finished. I'd be amazed if we have a top scorer of more than 15 this season. And that won't win you the league
