Auf wiedersehen Basti! To be fair, he should go and play in Italy. Perfect for the game there with a slower pace and less manic physical style in midfield. Thanks for the memories - oh wait, there aren't any!

I agree that could be a better way for Basti. He has not really contributed last season and if LVG is fine with his performance and then allow him to fly to watch tennis then suddenly playing at the Euros then he has let us down.
There is nothing wrong in deciding he is not up to first team standard. The responsibility belongs to the manager to select and if Mou feels Carrick is better and is more committed to the game then so be it. There must be a reason for this right? Afterall there are a lot of Man Utd slayers out there and hope to see us fail miserably.

Is he still here. I thought he had left us half way through last year to become a groupie for Ana Ivanovic. Seemed to re-appear in a German strip at the Euros so injury could not be the reason for his disappearence!

Basti started really well. Before the arsenal away game when we were top of the table i read a lot about how he behaved like a 2nd capn in our side on the pitch, what an absolute daddy on the pitch and yada yada yada.
Yes he was out for most of the time after that and yes draxler went past him like he didn't exist but if there's anybody to blame, I'm afraid it's mr van gaal. Which injury prone player wouldn't sign a 200k/ w contract at the biggest club in the world when he knows his best days are behind him?

Was half OK for a very short time until he found out the extent to which he would be allowed to take the p*ss. One of the "has beens" when we bought him imo. An icon of the LVG era.
