What is a kante/ kroos type player, completely different type of midfield players.

Its like saying you want a azpilicueta/ marcelo left back.

Why does it matter to you if we pay 40 million or 60 million? If it gets us the player then the extra money is nothing, the club know their budget for summer and who they are after, we will make some back from moving other players on as well so you have no idea what the plan is and therefore shouldn't care about the numbers especially once they get that high, let the club deal with it and enjoy the signings when we get them.

Also with the Morata deal you have no idea how negotiations are going and the fact that we haven't just paid what Madrid want would suggest we are looking at a deal like the one you mentioned. We probably never will find out, I am more interested in getting the players Jose wants than the money but maybe that's just me, lots do seem to be obsessed with discussing money that isn't anything to do with them.

GDS2 I would disagree with that naive stance. Simply put the club would have limited finances if the fans decided to not pay their hard earned cash into the club or cut off their Sky Sports packages.

In a world where the footballing community want fans to engage in the transfer market (even having a dedicated deadline day show) where the talk and gossip is about players wages and fees do you think they want the supporters to not care about the money or they want this to be a topic of conversation?

For some people I think they feel the club has been burnt too many times to see cash thrown away. Look at the Di Maria deal, United paid a lot of cash and made a mammoth loss in the end.

Maze,

I disagree with you. While you're right in saying that the club would suffer from losses if the fans decide to cut off their Tv subscriptions or even stop attending matches, I feel that such a scenario is not possible in the foreseeable future.

Every club in today's time, has a global presence, some more than the other. There are so many markets that these football clubs are targeting (take Asia for example, La Liga changes their timings of the matches to cater to the new Asian/ South East Asian audience), of course, they received flak from their supporters, but you hardly see a drop in the attendance.

The need for a dedicated show arises from the desire of what the fans (you, me and millions worldwide) want to see. They want to see which club is buying what player and how much will that player earn etc. And honestly, the fans care about the money that they will invest in getting the best players for their teams, they don't want their teams to be misers and not invest in players.

A Di Maria deal is a one-off case of a player not wanting to join the club. Yes, we paid exorbitant amounts of money for the player, but that more of a case of the player not having it in him, to play for this club. Every club in the past has made such mistakes. One of the reasons why we all remember the flops at our club is because we haven't been performing well in the last 4-5 years. Hence, the investments look like we are throwing money away.

Now, with Mou in charge, he has a plan, a transfer strategy, he knows the kind of players he wants and what he intends to build. While the way we played last season is unacceptable, it was more or less because of having the wrong players in the wrong place.

Look at it this way, if you can, we don't pay the exact amount that RM want for Morata and we don't budge. Instead, we settle for a Charlie Austin, because he's cheaper. Would you be happy with the way the team has done its business?

As fan's of our great club all we should be bothered in is getting the players on the pitch and hopefully win as many trophies as possible. Transfer fees for players is somebody else's job that we have no influence over. Jose will always have first choice target's and then back up players we are that rich we could get any player if wanted. Di Maria is a terrible example we nearly always report loses when re- selling players😆😆.

7.) 17 Jun 2017
17 Jun 2017 11:24:11
Maze,

The club has been burnt so many times and is run so badly that we are the richest club in the world and have the largest brand. Them guys running the club clearly have no idea what they are doing, we should be buying West Brom players for 3 million and giving any profits to the Glazers?

8.) 17 Jun 2017
17 Jun 2017 11:25:18
BFRO,

That was my point, people banging on about transfer fees is just an excuse to moan in my opinion, a month after the player is signed nobody cares what they cost if they play well.

9.) 17 Jun 2017
17 Jun 2017 11:31:32
I agree with everyone that says getting the right players is more important than the money they cost. Getting B list players to save money and we will do more than challenge for the top 4 instead of the title. The manager has proved he can win the minor trophies but to challenge for the title and to be a force in the CL we must back his judgement when it comes to transfer targets and pay what is required to get them.

10.) 17 Jun 2017
17 Jun 2017 12:06:20
Can't see morata deal happening but if morata is who Jose wants then I'll agree with him. Same with dier. Think both players would fit the team well, dier would free up pogba and morata woulad suit the epl. As for the fees football has been going mad for a while, sky and BT have seen to that.

11.) 17 Jun 2017
17 Jun 2017 12:09:54
So we just pay what ever Madrid want?
100 mil 150 mil, where do you draw the line?

12.) 17 Jun 2017
17 Jun 2017 12:16:16
This is where it all getting very silly and lost on a lot of folk.

BFRO How can you possible sit there and say "Di Maria was a terrible example" when Utd grossly overpaid for his signature when the lad didn't even want the move then took a hit on his value a year later whilst also paying up his massive contract?

False media would have you believe that United a minor loss it was much more a significant loss. Perhaps fans don't want to see their hard earned cash flushed down the toilet?

GDS your naivety is worrying sometimes sir. "United are the richest club in the world" did you read that on BBC or Sky Sports? That term means nothing, zilch. Again another media propaganda "fact" to make the fans relate to the finances in football (that you say we shouldn't care about) .

Uniteds net debt increased this year by upwards of 25 percent (massive number) in a climate where most clubs debt reduced. Now we are talking about net debt here - I repeat net. So please don't listen to all you hear on Sky it makes you look very silly.

I think there would be a stage where utd will walk away. To be honest I think will move on, especially if reports are true in the deal is now delayed until Ronaldo issue solved. Problem for utd as we need a forward or we will be short going into the new season.

14.) 17 Jun 2017
17 Jun 2017 12:44:17
I'm with jred on this u can't just say pay whatever someone asks. Ed has said many times we are seen as a bit stupid in what we will pay sometimes and now because of that there's a kind of man utd premium placed on a player when we are interested . It's what we have created but surely don't take it to a point even more exadurated.

15.) 17 Jun 2017

The most important thing today, from a business point of view, is that the name of Manchester United is dispersed far and wide through the ad-consuming consciousness of the global consumer. 50% of the club's revenue is commercial, a further 30% is from broadcasting and only 20% is from match days. Gone are the days when football clubs actually had to purchase their own kit!

Supply and demand for players, and thus transfer fees, are set by the market in general, modified by the particular exigencies of the buying and selling clubs. It is quite beyond the average fan to determine what is or is not too much. Our befudled participation in the circus is all that's required. Click click. Observe and spend.

16.) 17 Jun 2017
17 Jun 2017 13:30:42
I completely see why Ed002 gets so pissed off. MAZE you clown stop pretending you have any idea as to the way transfers work, or indeed the cost of such massive deals. How do you know how much we lost/ made on Di Maria? I would hazard a guess you read it in the same media your slagging off.

And the fact we're the most valuable club on the planet was from Forbes.

"False Media"? "Propaganda" you sound like Donald Trump.

All the facts your quoting came from the very same media you slag off. The word hypocrite comes to mind. Your naivety is worrying sometimes sir.

17.) 17 Jun 2017
17 Jun 2017 13:40:38
I think it would make a lot of sense to try and bring him back, we have to now make sure we make the Champions League every season, we need to score more goals, can we really turn down trying to get a player that has scored over 40 goals a season apart from one season at Madrid.

I am not saying he would come back but we must definitely be involved in trying to sign him if he is available.

18.) 17 Jun 2017
17 Jun 2017 13:48:03
DSG - hope you don't expect us to remain one dimensional forever. If we are focusing on Kante type (Dier/ Fabinho) - then definitely there will be reinforcements in the wing otherwise it's the same old story. No width.

Kroos type only if we can't manage world class wingers and focus attack centrally!

I don't know about you but I would definitely design a midfield with either options if given the opportunity and what's available.

19.) 17 Jun 2017
17 Jun 2017 14:37:00
Of course it's the board that will decide as to how much they can stretch financially to help with our manager's plan.

Pogba isn't worth 89m but I would have paid more if needed because we need him!

But there is no denying of the fact that RM is bullying us with Morata deal - this everyday nonsense.

As fans we have every right to voice our disagreements if not, why even keep this page?

17 Jun 2017 14:47:20
TSA - I guess if Forbes reported these figures it must be gospel right? Did you delve into the facts Forbes gave of being 'the richest club in the world' or just read the headline?

If you can name one part of my post that is untrue or not correct I will gladly retract my statement?

21.) 17 Jun 2017
17 Jun 2017 15:37:11
Maze you know nothing about the inner workings of a transfer. Like everyone else you get your info from the media. If we want Ronaldo he will come . Ronaldo himself has backed Madrid into a corner by saying he will definitely be leaving which gives the buying club a huge advantage when dealing. This deal might just happen 😆😆.

22.) 17 Jun 2017
17 Jun 2017 15:48:19
BFRO I am no fan of the mainstream media I follow certain Journals who have had a very good rep over the past 10 years or so. No they haven't got everything right before you point that out but the pretty damn get most of it correct.

I don't post here saying this is gospel because Forbes published it so it must be gospel.

I can see two view points. Business wise the club will sign players that right for the team. An 11 that consists of all the most expensive or "best" players in each position will, almost certainly not produce the best team performance. Too many egos = bad news. There has to be a balance.
However, I do not buy into the "what the hell, it's not our money" argument - at least not completely. The money the club the money has comes from directly supporters tickets. The rest (a Big bit) comes from TV and commercial firm sponsorship be it sportswear sales or millions of noodle buyers in the far east. Guess where these generous contributions come from. For those who have difficulty joining the dots, I think it safe to suggest that it comes out of supporters pockets as we continue to pay ever increasing inflated prices for goods and services. Now, no one is being made to get out the credit card at gunpoint but it is our money or profits from invested past income.
I am a pragmatist, things are as they are. We have to pay the necessary to improve team. To management I say, Don't get taken for a ride (I am sure they don't need to be told) . To others (possibly a very few) - Don't insult us by saying it is not our money - IT IS, in exactly the same way the government funds "free" education and NHS etc etc.
End of rant.
