Mistake letting Fellaini go without a replacement. Pereira not cut out, either is mctominay. Fred the only option?

Maybe Ole has plans to involve more youth players? He has mentioned James Garner before as a youngster with potential.
Or maybe he has seen something in Gribbin, Sang, Willock (St Mirren) Buffonge, Whelan, Barlow or Hamilton?
We will see.

Short term it may be a slight mistake if we have an injury crisis in midfield.

But in the long term it is hopefully the start of a much needed trimming down of the squad. Having 30 odd first team players on the books is not sustainable. With wages and transfer fees escalating for some average players let alone top players most top clubs will need to be much more efficient in squad management.

It was going to be tough to offload the likes of rojo, darmian and fellaini as most european clubs are wise enough to avoid them.

Thank god that shandong lungeng were able to do a deal for both fellaini and the club.

As people have mentioned in the long term it is in the club's best interest. Sell a player who is over 30, is on high wages, and isn't in the first team plans. That sounds like the best thing to do.

I disagree that it is short sighted or that the club will have a problem if we have an injury crisis.

For me Fellaini hasn't been a bad player, he works hard and is effective within certain boundaries. However, if Ole wants to maintain the style of play he has implemented so far then I don't see how Fellaini fits in. If we have in injury to Pogba, Matic or Herrera can Fellaini replace them and the team still play the same way? I would say no, not without a significant drop off in performance. In that situation you would have to adapt the side to fit Fellaini in, we have seen how that effects performances and results under Mourinho. It would make more sense to play a youth player with a similar skill set to the player they are replacing in the line up this allowing the other 10 players to keep playing in the same way and causing as little disruption as possible. Rather than make the 10 players change their game and the team tactics to fit Fellaini in or ask Fellaini to play in a way he just can't.

Signing Fellaini reminded me of when Liverpool signed David Speedie, it was just wrong. Nice bloke, was a beast for Everton, it never really fitted for us. As Stevie sas, he scored some important goals for us and always gave 100% but it was never a sensible signing. Good luck to the big man.

One bad game and pereira is useless, much like lindelof a few months ago, I can see how things become toxic quickly. Give the lad a chance, he stuck up to José last year and got some game time in Spain, I think once the nerves settle he’ll be a good option to have, Ole obviously saw something in him.

Not to mention he's trying to learn a new position.
