Times reporting that ashley young is going to be our next club captain.

I think after our last 30+ ex winger come converted full back was such a resounding success, this is a shrewd move by the club.

Also smalling a contender to be vice captain, refreshing to see ole being so ruthless this summer with our underperforming players.

I hope this isn't true. He shouldn't be a starter and it's pretty pointless having a squad player as the captain.

Ashley Young has been a glaring weak spot in our squad for 8 years. As a winger he could not reliably beat a man and his crossing is poor. He is not a defender and gets found at at Premiership level often. Jose liked him because he followed instructions and often looks like he is giving "100%" with a lot of huffing and puffing but for me he flatters to deceive.

He is a long serving player and whilst not being good enough has never given less than 100% even playing out of position. Unfortunately I’d struggle to name a better option in the squad at this moment.

I don't get this whole angle of being played out of position. He's been a full back for half his career at this stage. There's a clip from the last game of the season when we went 2 down. Lindelof is organising the players, trying to pick them up while Young is just standing in the corner doing nothing. Obviously this is only a snapshot but we really should be building something new with someone like Lindelof instead of Young.

I'm 100% certain that Young would not be the first choice RB next season.
Even Ed has confirmed that RB is a priority for the club and Wan-Bissaka/ Meneiur are considered as the primary targets.

Said this many times on here the Captaincy at football is not as important as cricket but you need a different type of leader on the pitch in football. A club man who is committed is not that manic you want to be successful. I don’t doubt Young’s commitment, just his quality. The players must respect the captains work, aim for his level yet Young can’t cross a ball and gives possession away. As to Pogba, where do we start. It shows the lack of thought in management and above if this is true. The captaincy needs to go to a leader not as a carrot to entice someone to stay or for loyal service. If we aren’t buying someone who could be a leader then we are in even bigger trouble. Desperation takes us in the direction of Young and Pogba.

Personally I would look at who comes in at Centre Back or Centre Midfield as someone who needs to be a leader. Then make Captaincy decisions.

I remember when we signed Jones.
‘Future Utd and England captain, ’ they said.
*shudders*.
