My home town of Scunthorpe will be badly affected, it will be a ghost town after this.
The silence from the local Conservative leaders of Nth Lincs Council has been deafening only to be broken today with a comment from the council leader, "I'm sure a lot of business would like a little extra government finance" - They don't care.

Haven't posted in a long time, but I work at the steel works in Scunthorpe so thanks guys. From the meetings we've had so far I think we're hopeful a buyer can be found. Like Herbie said this area will be ruined if it shuts.

Frankly Labour started the rot even before the Tories got. They never backed the Steel Industry properly either (nationalising it decreased its competitiveness and led to bad working practices) and the Unions have not helped with their backwards looking views that makes them believe that an industry is entitled to contracts just because it is British and ignoring the fact that demanding increasingky better wages whilst output declines is a recipe for disaster. It's a hugely competitive world and streamlined and efficient working practices are a necessity. Just look at what's happened to our high streets. On line trading has decimated them. Frankly all the major political parties in this country are a waste of time. just look at the mess they have got us into with Brexit. The real tragedy is that ordinary working people lose their jobs and often through no fault of their own. Meantime prima donna footballers (including some at Utd) seem oblivious to the world around them and often forget their own roots from humble beginnings. Look at photographs from decades ago and see how football was a real escape for those of us with real jobs and real worries. Compare it to today and the disconnect between footballers clubs and their fans is easily seen. It's shameful. I really hope that British Steel is saved for all the people in the area.
