Regarding the players involvement in Social media, i find our players getting too much involved in it. Especially Pogba and lingard. When they give disappointing performance and yet post about their dog after, i find it extremely annoying.

Is it same for other clubs as well? I mean i don't follow much players from liverpool and city in social media. Do they spend quite a time in it as well? They have been extremely good on the field with their passion and committment visible. If they are active in social media then clearly they haven't been distracted by it.

Why does it matter if they do the business on the pitch. As I said a few days ago, Lewis Hamilton is all over Instagram, and he regularly jets all over the world with his fashion brand or just to have a good time. However, he still does it on the track and remains at the top of his sport. Social media is part of life for most people, if players aren’t doing it on the pitch it’s not because they posted videos on Instagram.

I get the frustrations with social media and sport, no denying I sometimes feel irritated watching a terrible United performance, then two hours later seeing players talking about their clothing line or something. However, it's only something that bothers me after defeats or when we are not having a great season. Which for me, shows it's not actually the social media stuff that bothers me too much, it's the fact United have been hopeless for a few years and I'm trying to find excuses. Other footballers are all over social media, so are other sports stars. In the traditional US sports it seems to be used even more.

However, there's the other side of it too. After the PSG game, seeing the reactions of the players like Lingard, Martial etc who were watching was brilliant.

There's also the argument about football ultimately being a job. These guys are entitled to a life outside of football and not all of the United players are United fans and I doubt many of them genuinely care about the club the same way fans do.

If I have a rubbish day at work, I don't think I should avoid posting on social media because of it. I accept I don't have 70000 fans coming to my office each week hoping to see a good performance and I'm not on 500k per week but still haha.

It does not matter if they do business on the pitch. That is my point. But what our players are doing is performing poor and still using the media as if nothings wrong. We expect them to work hard and be at their past. isn't it one of the reason Jose and Pogba had a bust up in training ground?

I don't get that vibe in our team. Play crap, go home and have a regular day. No shade of motivation.

Most people are on social media now. Not just sports stars but actors and musicians too. Either promoting their latest film/ album or various charity stuff. Some of those produce rubbish as well but get nowhere near the vitriol reserved for sports stars.

I think motivation is an issue but I don't think that's down to twitter and instagram. I think that's simply because the vast majority are overpaid. Play great or poorly either way you still pick up your £250k that week and drive home in the Bentley or Ferrari to the six bedroom mansion and model girlfriend. Basic pay should be set much lower with bonuses and incentives based on performance.

Just go on pogbas twitter feed yourself, hardly screams of a guy obsessed with social media lol.

Even if all our players turned off their social media we still would have had a bad season because it doesn't change the fact that chris smalling can't pass a football or ashley young can cross a football or that we haven't had a right winger for 6 years.

Mark Zuckerberg isn't going to fix that.

The whole social media thing annoys me too. But it's not just down to Pogba and Lingard. Personally, I think the club should put a stop to it, or at least have rules and guidelines on content and frequency etc.

There seems to be a culture at United of players loving the limelight which you don't see at other clubs.

Seems to me like it's a lack of discipline that engulfs the club. Does anyone know what Aguero does in his own time, or DeBruyne, Salah, Firminho etc.

I'm not sure of the fact, sonthis is only my opinion, but I would imagine other clubs have more club rules regarding off field activities and social media.
Maybe the Eds could shed some light?

I would like to think I'd look to fix the wrongs, absolutely correct. However, I wouldn't take myself away from something I like (for this example, say I love posting on social media) to focus on nothing but writing the wrongs for the next week. Just as if I'd had a fantastic week at work I wouldn't post 10 times more social media stuff just because I'd had a good week.

Imagine if I'd had a bad week at work and my manager or other people at work said to you need to cut out social media as that will make you better at your job. Not training, not speaking with other people at work on what I could do better or trying to do this or that differently. Just cut out social media. Those people would rightly be laughed at for suggesting it.

You're holding footballers to a degree of professionalism that seems excessive in my opinion. You're average footballer nowadays is 100 times more professional than those of 25/ 30 years ago who were out drinking a lot and not watching their diet.

Social media isn't a problem, neither is alcohol or gambling or even womanising.

Players are allowed to have off field interests.

The problems come when these interests start impacting their professional lives.

If you miss training because your hung over, if your distracted from training and playing because of off field issues be the social media, gambling issues, women or businesses.

Mata runs a weekly blog, he also runs a charity. Yet if the team have played badly or suffered a painful defeat he cancels his blog that week to focus on football. As he should.

Fans get annoyed when they are still feeling raw about a defeat but members of the team are showing off on social media, sometimes only hours later. If you do that then you have to expect some backlash from the fans.

Either they are two daft to realise this or they don't care. Either way that isn't good, and the players management team should be guiding them better.

I am not saying that they are not allowed to use it or use of social media affects their performance. But, if they are really disappointed by their own performance, they certainly won't post them dancing the next day. It is annoying.

I usually avoid social media when we loose because i just can't bear us getting trolled in all medias. If I being a normal fan can't think of using it, then how can our players who just got horrible result carry on using it. If truly disappointed, they would not be bothered opening insta and updating their stories.

Once again i am not saying players must not use social medias but i wish if they could limit themselves under the circusmtances and work on doing better in next gamr.

Interesting - we pour praise all over the likes of a George Best and Gazza, when in fact their careers at the top were heavily impacted by their social life.

Lingard and Pogba are just desperate for the limelight - if you don’t like it don’t follow them on twitter or whatever nonsensical social media site it is.

Betty, maybe if we were following the City or Liverpool social media sites, we would know these things. As it is, we only really notice our players. I don't know for sure, but I find it hard to believe the top players at those clubs aren't posting the same inane rubbish that our lot do. Like I said before, better on social media hurting No one, than sitting in a pub or a bookies all day.
