While many on here do not rate lukaku and no his touch isn't great, he's still our only proven goal scorer. If you pay £90m for s goal scorer then give him the ball where he can actually do damage.
Rvn hardly touched the ball outside the penalty area, didn't need to, just put it in the net.
We need to stop dreaming about the possible potential of rashford and martial and provide the only real goal scorer we have with the chance to do what he does best.
Sort the defence out as well. Madness to think about getting rid of lukaku yet keep Jones, smalling, Rojo, Lingard . Nonsense. Goals win games, lukaku was 2nd top scorer at Everton . 2 attacking fullbacks and half decent supply. Don't tell me we can't get that right?

The thought process is that he lacks the all round game to be a top striker for a top side. He will always score goals, plenty in the right side with the right set up.

Yet his record against the best sides is poor, this is mostly down the to deficiencies in his game. His poor touch, link up play and movement means he will always be starved of chances against the top sides where they have top defenders who will limit the space and time he has on the ball.

Ironically he will get more chances against top sides when playing for a smaller side as often top sides leave more space in behind against smaller sides than they would if they were playing a top side.

Lukaku isn't a player we should just discard, but if a good offer comes in and he wants to leave the club should not stand in his way.

Lukaku has his limitations, but the reality is that he is our most consistent scorer.

Rashford and Martial have never given any indication that they can hit 20 goals per season on a regular basis.

So unless we have a clear replacement, it would be stupid to sell him.

Lukaku has an awful touch and lacks intelligence. He can’t be mentioned in the same paragraph as RVN.

I personally couldn’t care less if Lukaku is sold. He’s a bodybuilder, not a footballer.

I don't really understand where the belief from posters has come from that we will achieve the miracle of getting rid of the highest paid player at the club (alexis sanchez) .

Everyone keeps talking about if lukaku leaves then we only martial, rashford and greenwood left. In all likelihood sanchez will also be at the club next season as no sensible club would pay him half the wages he's on let alone full wack.

Add in the fact that the club are hardly going to let him only walk his dog for two years whilst he is on the payroll. Ole is going to have to find a way of fitting him in, maybe up front as a striker or in the number 10 position in a diamond formation.

So we're back to judging players on a game by game basis. Some people on here have very short memories. Lukaku scores a brace for Belgium and suddenly he's fantastic again and it's not Lukaku that's the problem but the service. Of course any striker would benefit from better service but Lukaku must take responsibility for improving his own game and embrace the pressure of playing for a big Club where every game and every performance matters.

Lukaku is a good player but he's not a great one. His movement is poor, his mobility is limited and his first touch inconsistent. In the modern game when defenders and goalkeepers are expected to play like midfielders there can be no passengers. Lukaku is not good enough to expect the team to be built around him. His goal scoring record is reasonable but it's not good enough for him to be indulged. If he wants to survive not just at Utd but at any top Club with aspirations of winning the biggest honours then he must improve his movement, mobility and first touch.

The best teams all now defend from the front, the forwards instigate the press and have the mobility and tenacity to help win the ball back higher up the pitch. The best teams have forwards that can rotate positions making it hard for the opposition to mark and pick them up. They can drop deep, run in behind and pull into wide areas. Lukaku's game is limited, his lack of mobility and movement make him predictable and easy to mark. If he's not able to use his physicality to hold off defenders in order to create space for shot or header he's relatively redundant.

Whilst Lukaku stats indicate he is our most prolific goal scorer that doesn't always tell the full story. OGS wants a forward line that can play with pace and movement. He wants rotation of positions and mobility with players moving to create space for each other. He wants the goals to be spread across the entire forward line and not dependent on one focal point that's relatively easy to manage.

Having said all that there is no reason why Lukaku can't work on these aspects of his game and become an effective member of our team. He needs to work of his agility, mobility and movement over the summer. He must embrace the challenge and fight for his place. Sadly it appears he wants to take the easy option and move on rather than take responsibility for his own limitations and improve. Lukaku is not irreplaceable and if he doesn't want to fight for his place in the team and improve then we should wish him luck at his new Club. Something tells me we won't live to regret it.

So once again we are back to someone paid something like £7 million a year who can't be bothered to run around a bit for 90 minutes twice a week. Cosmic.

Rvn had beckham, scholes, giggs. Lukaku has? Lindgard. Young. Martial or rashford, no one who can actually put the ball where it’s needed.
It’s not based on one game for Belgium, he’s got 48 goals for Belgium already. That’s not a mean feat at international level by any means. How many has Kane got for England? Or aguero for Argentina? Or Salah for Egypt?
Not saying he’s perfect but if he cannot be coached properly to improve then we have a massive problem and it’s not the players fault the system isn’t working.
