Good post Shappy, can't argue with any of that pal.

I don't expect any more transfers to be honest. Pogba remains an enigma and polarises opinion but love him or loathe him surely we can all agree that Utd are a better side when he plays especially as it looks increasingly unlikely we'll now get a replacement. New season, new start let's hope his football does the talking.

The likes of Gomes, Chong and Greenwood have all impressed during pre-season. Maybe now is their time. Many posters wanted them to be given a chance. The defence has been significantly strengthened to provide them with a platform to shine.

I have concerns about Matic and Mata's suitability to press high and move the ball quickly. I hope Ole is brave and trusts the exuberance of youth over experience. I think both can fulfil a role off the bench and are important members of the squad but I'd like to see Gomes given a chance at No10 or Greenwood play from the right ahead Mata.

We're going to need a lot of players to step up and deliver on their potential. The likes of Martial, Rashford and Lingard must all improve and perform more consistently. Lindelof and Shaw must build on their promising performances from last season and Maguire and AWB will have to hit the ground running. If the young lads can take their chance and make an impact it could be an exciting season.

I'm not really sure where we'll finish. I think we might struggle to score goals so we'll need the defence to significantly improve if we are to have any aspirations of a top 4 finish. I think we'll be in the mix and hopefully we'll see some better football with our promising youngsters given a chance to impress. I'm not sure we expect much more than that I'm afraid but maybe some lessons have been learnt and hopefully we're going in the right direction.

Shappy whilst i understand your sentiment but i think your post is based on a lot of assumptions. Its a what of scenario that you are stating rather than where we are as a squad.

You mention fitness levels. I remember you were one of those saying that the style of pressing in Klopp and Pep's teams takes its toll on the players and they run out of steam by feb march. These teams have been playing this style for a sustained period yet feel the fatigue towards the business end of the season. What makes you think that a 6 game pre-season will give the players the required fitness levels to sustain the style over the season. Right now i see them running out of gas at christmas.

You say we may ship in lesser goals to which i agree but so may the other teams around us. Other teams may also win a few more games even if its out of luck. Your assumption that only we will improve while others regress isn't accurate in my opinion.

You mention James, Chelsea have Odoi. Every Rashford has a Pedro or a Pepe in other teams. Our young ones are talented and may turn put great but what if in Greenwood we get a Januzaj or a Chong instead of becoming a Ronaldo becomes a Cleverley. We needed experience of a top class performer to guide these young guns and Pogba is the right player for that but the problem is he doesn't have that attitude or Manchester United in his heart.

United
Sounds like even more assumptions.

United Addict if you were a pantomime character you would be continually booed for your negativity. Good post Shappy. I'd add that De Gea was very off form for a lot of games toward the back end of last season. If he has his head screwed on again this season, and with a much stronger defense we may concede 20 t0 25 goals less.
