Adding to Brendan's post down the page.
Last year we had a manager sacked, players thrown under the bus frequently, toxic atmosphere and many other off field issues. Still we managed to come close to top 4.

This year we have 2 signings going straight into the starting 11. Greenwood, McTominay and others look like stepping up and the manager is ready to give them the opportunity.

Rebuilding is a steady process. We cannot expect everything to be fixed in a single window.
Defence is sorted, the midfield may be fixed in later windows to get the right targets in.

I am really excited for the new season. The positivity is also a great sign.
Manchester United have always been believers of young talents.
Let us back them instead of complaining about new signings.

The naivety on here is a sight to see.

If Lukaku goes and no one comes in our net spend will be circa £70m, funnily enough I read the average annual net spend since 2009 was £69m, a coincidence or just what the owners want to budget for transfers.

Our midfield is just not good enough and if we don’t get a goal scorer I fear a difficult season. The defence is much improved but I don’t fancy our present midfield to dominate against any of the other top six, possibly top ten teams. If Pogba goes as well it would be lovely financially but the midfield looks terrible.

The window hasn’t closed yet but I for one won’t be bounced into rah rah land where everything is wonderful

People miss the situation that if we miss top four the top players next summer will not believe we can get back so won’t come, Miss the top six and our options reduce further. The emotional sentimental nonsense that drives some people would still probably harp on about our DNA.

Couldn’t agree more Redman. Some people still can’t see just how far we’ve fallen. We will get dominated in that CM area frequently. Battle for 5th or 6th I believe. Simply not good enough.

Careful Red Man and Stand, you're speaking realistically and that's not allowed. Apparently Fred, Mctominay, pogba, Sanchez, Pereira, Matic are going to be top class and create chance after chance for our front two.
I like Mctominay as he plays with passion. But Pogba wants out and the rest are not good enough. So the engine of the team, our midfield, is so poor that teams like Leicester boast a better midfield.
I wanted us to sign Fernandes and Maddison to enhance the chances we create. That's not happened.
We will not challenge, nor qualify for 4th spot with this midfield, they simply don't create enough chances.

Think you’re right: it’s more about rebuilding for the long term this transfer window, rather than shoe-horning in big signings for an immediate impact as before.

Top 4 will be the target this year then, when we’ve qualified for Ch. League, we can bring in other signings to enhance the foundations such as Declan Rice and Longstaff, again building for the long term.

In the meantime, squad can be trimmed of those players who don’t want/ shouldn’t be at United.

I still think we lack creativity in midfield but, so long as Pogba shows up more often than not, we should had a decent season. Can see youngsters getting their chance also. Bring on Sunday!

Arsenal and spurs are having a pretty good attempt at fixing everything in this window while we’re sitting back.
Worth noting that we need to close the gap and it seems these two are doing their best to increase the gap between us and them.
Let’s see where we’re at when the window closes.
