Provided we do not sign anyone in midfield, can anyone see Phil Jones/ Fosu Mensah filling in at DM as cover for Matic or even replacing him for the time being?

I know both of them haven't had best of times for some time now, but can they play a role? Or would you rather prefer one of the youngsters from the academy to be given a chance?

Not Jones for Christs sake. Square pegs in round holes. I understand rebuilds take time so I think next summer a DM is the top of the list. Tbh I would give Garner a chance and see if he is ready. Otherwise Fred needs to step up. Always been high on fosu mensah but I’m not sure he’s at the level required anymore. A few bad loans and injuries have stalled his progress.

Park3lung, the reason I put Jones as an option is because he has previously played DM. I was thinking on the lines of Garner, but I don't think he is ready physically to take on that role and also taking into account his age, we really need to be very careful. Fred on the other hand is more of a box to box and DM is not for him.

I know let’s play but he played DM back in fergie’s days. He’s hardly qualified to play there. I agree on Fred he seems better box to box. I would have looked at doucoure or ndidi but I’m not in charge right.

Jones is injured for 75% of the season. And his positioning is diabolical. So, i would rather see anyone there but him, or Matic.
