New here, but I long for the days of Van G as the coach. The team would comfortably play posession football regardless of who the opponent was, even the margins of our losses were so narrow.

Those days were hell.

We never threatened opposition and looked content to pass the ball around going nowhere. All an opponent had to do was wait for the inevitable mistake and score, knowing we had no plan B. We spent mega money on great players that looked just as bad as our current crop who are infinitely less talented.

I haven't rated any of our recent managers, but LVG was by far the worst thing to happen to our club in recent history from my perspective.

When we have a team with Mata, Young, Lingard, Rashford, Matic and Pereira playing it is going to be hard - simply not good enough for this level or the level we aim to be at.

Seriously?
I was bored to death under LVG's regime.
The football was dire, slow, side ways passing with little to no penetration. I even fell asleep watching certain games.

You mean the manager that made the majority of fans fall asleep watching his football.

I don't think I ever fell asleep watching a united match up until he took over.

Dreadfull football.

LvG was a mistake, his press conference more entertaining than the games. He should only have been brought in to structure the club with Pep in mind as his replacement, but yet again the decision makers were found wanting. LvG is used on here, however as one of the examples of how an experienced manager didn’t work so we should go with he who I am not allowed to mention (failed Cardiff manager but hush I don’t think anyone noticed I got that in)

I just want some clear thinking and planning, stop looking back at LvG or SAF days (see brackets above) and look forward to getting the next manager correct.

I miss the dislike button.
LVG days were a bore-fest. The best thing of the LvG era was the succession plan to him, (Possibly alegri) had he been allowed to run his course.
I remember Shappy explaining the philosophy, keeping possession and playing into the 'channels'.
I think in his whole time with us I saw him stand just once during the game.

You undertake a professional recruitment process unlike what happened.

If LVG was manager, Rooney would be still be at the club, and maybe even s And fellaini.

The thought of that dreads me.

Oh, and Nyash. Welcome to the site, mate. don't let our almost universal disdain for LVG's reign put you off posting again.

Shappy

Wenger would be fine to the end of the season to allow us time to conduct a professional review if as seems likely we are incapable of doing it sooner. The impact he had at Arsenal was tremendous and plays great football. Who would not respect his knowledge and CV

Wenger can’t be a long term appointment though so if he didn’t want it short term we would have to look elsewhere.

Thanks Ken, I suggested Wenger on here before they went for Ole.

I'd have lived Wenger a few years ago but as a caretaker he'd be fine, if it comes to that.

An exceptional caretaker manager. Now that would be a great shout.

LVG should have taken the DOF role instead of manager. Overseen the youth set up as he could spot a player like he did with Davids, Xavi, Puyol etc. A respected name throughout football and an eye for detail and a backbone to stand up to Ed and the board.

Pretty good idea that James, but would he have been able to stop himself interfering or dominating the Manager.
