I never hear racism at big games, is this a recent thing or has it been going on for a long time at smaller games? It seems tragic that in this day and age people still think it’s ok to abuse people based the colour of their skin. I’m puzzled why it seems to be happening more and more often.

Football fans in general seem to have a warped view of what is acceptable; racism aside, there are some pretty horrific chants out there.

I hear racism at games such as Wrexham, chester, fC united and more so in pubs with groups watching games.

Racism is rare in EPL games, but that’s more to do with fear of punishment than any ethical stance. I think the social media racism directed at black EPL players, including racism directed against our players by United ‘fans’, illustrates that it’s a rising problem.

Football grounds have always been places where the boundaries of taste are pushed in the name of ‘banter’. In my view, the racism is getting worse because of broader socio-political trends, and adults acting like they’re children throwing tantrums because they’ve been told to play nice.

That’s very true Shappy, you only have to listen to various radio stations to hear Joe Public insisting he’s is right and everyone is wrong and Brexit has demonstrated that very pointedly. But it’s still another step to start publicly racially abusing someone. Having said that, it seems death threats are an occupational hazard for large groups of people in the public eye nowadays so for many people anything goes. It’s all incredibly sad.

Welcome back Tony.
Couldn't agree more. It's all the tribal BS. Its all about sticks and stones.
Is calling an opposing player an irish xxx (insert curse word) or a Scottish xxx or scouse xxx any better than calling a player a black xxx?
How to you stop 30,000 people chanting the referees a w.?

None of it is right some chants are less wrong than others but none of them should be deemed acceptable.
Racial abuse like we saw midweek is shocking it should not be tolerated.
Punishments are a joke.
It needs eradicating and severe punishments for clubs individuals national associations. Right down the line.
